For a couple with an enjoyment of fine art, the Georgia Museum of Art is an excellent choice of wedding venue. The museum, located near UGA’s east campus, has 4 spots for events. The M. Smith Griffith Grand Hall, the Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden, the M. Smith Griffith Auditorium, and the Education Center can be rented separately or together. Both the auditorium and the Education Center are good options if you have media such as a video or a slide show. The auditorium has a screen and projector, and the education center has a theater complete with audio and film equipment, infrared headsets for guests with hearing impairment, a backstage, and dressing rooms.

The Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden is available for couples who desire an outdoor ceremony. In addition to beautiful sculpture, the garden has space for a 30 x 50 foot tent and a gentle waterfall fountain. The Georgia Museum of Art has pre-approved vendors for food, flowers, and equipment. Their list includes options from Mama’s Boy to University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel and can be viewed at their website.

Another lovely venue for the artsy couple is the Lyndon House Art Center. Like the GMoA, the Lyndon House Art Center has frequent classes, community events, and exciting exhibitions. It is a nonprofit run entirely by the Athens Clarke County government. Check out their facebook to get updates on their current exhibitions. One review says, “Perfect wedding venue! Our guests loved how unique it was! It’s such a beautiful location, with tons of different space options for every aspect of your event. It’s a very affordable venue and we were beyond impressed with how amazing and accommodating the staff was.” If you are interested in hosting your event at either of these venues, it might be fun to check out the exhibitions before choosing. You could customize your wedding decorations or party favors to match the exhibition that is going on during your wedding.

For an artsy and outdoorsy couple, the Washington Grass Inn is a beautiful option. According to their website, “There’s always an intoxicating scent in the country air, a soft buzzing of honey bees and a gentle breeze wafting around the giant oaks, magnolias and pines.” Owned by Wiley & Gloria Slaughter, the Woodlawn Plantation is 13 acres and has been in operation since 1852. It is known to many as the world of magnolias and sweet tea. The outdoor pavilion has the charm and fun of a vintage barn. For a creative couple excited to pick out decorations, there is no better spot to decorate with diy wedding crafts than this one. Their “all inclusive package” includes venue rental, catering, an officiant, full DJ services, and optional rehearsal dinner and rehearsal time and a wedding cake with fresh flowers.
