1. Establishing a Budget

Establishing a budget that you and your partner agree on is the first step in planning your honeymoon, especially because everyone knows you will more than likely spend more than you think you will (so plan accordingly).

2. Start Planning and Saving Early

Many choose to set up a “honeyfund” as early as the engagement so that you can splurge throughout the exciting days filled with memories that will last a lifetime. Amidst planning for a wedding, planning a honeymoon goes hand and hand, so starting to plan as early as possible is the best route to go – after all, you want your honeymoon to be flawless and stress-free!

3. Brainstorming Locations

It’s important that you and your partner agree on the location – this trip is about both of you! Perhaps brainstorming separately and seeing what places both of you come up with may be the best route. That way, nobody is influenced by the other and you can narrow down the rest by listing pros and cons.

4. Establish the Type of Honeymoon

Adventure filled, relaxation, or both? It’s important to figure out what kind of vibe you are going for when choosing your destination; this also will impact your decision on where exactly you want to go. Many couples that want relaxation choose either the Caribbean, Hawaii, somewhere in French Polynesia, or the Maldives. You can either stay in a secluded over-the-water bungalow and tan, or go paddle boarding, snorkeling, fishing, or scuba-diving! If you want more of an adventure-filled honeymoon, many choose a city (or multiple cities) in Europe such as Paris, Rome, Barcelona, or Santorini.

5. Consider Using a Travel Agent

As mentioned before, you will be planning your honeymoon while planning your wedding, bridal shower, bachelor and bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, you name it! So, it might be a good idea to use a travel agent and alleviate some stress. Also, they’re experts, so they will be able to tell you the best places to go from restaurants and hotels to historic sites, museums, and activities.

6. Research Accommodations

If you decide to plan it on your own, make sure to do your research on the best places to accommodate your needs! Trip Advisor, Travel + Leisure, and Hotels.com are all good places to start. Maybe even consider asking friends and family for places they recommend!

7. Research Attractions + Restaurants

Again, Trip Advisor and Travel + Leisure are great places to start. In this case, google is your best friend. Make sure you keep track of your findings too!

8. To Postpone or Not to Postpone?

After the wedding extravaganza is over, it might be in your best interest to wait a few weeks before leaving for your honeymoon. That way you can take a breather, and focus on preparing for your adventure without the stress of leaving right after your wedding. Also, make sure to research the best times to visit your destination as this should influence timing as well!

Hopefully these tips help in planning the best honeymoon possible!
