When deciding on a theme and venue for your wedding, there are so many options. If you are wanting to have a more casual, rustic aesthetic to your wedding then I would recommend looking into having a barn wedding. There are many places near and around Athens that would be perfect for a barn wedding.

Pros of having a barn wedding

Barn weddings can be held on either the inside or the outside of the barn. Regardless, the pictures will be beautiful. Planning to have your wedding during the time that the sun goes down will be so pretty in your pictures.

If you and your significant other are more laid back and love to experience nature, then the simplicity of a barn wedding is the perfect option for you.

If you and your significant other have huge families, and are worried about space, choosing a barn as the venue is a great option because you can have the ceremony outside and the reception inside.

When considering decorations, you can completely make the barn your own. Most barns are a blank canvas that allow you to decorate more simply or you can go above and beyond by adding lights and candles everywhere.

Things to consider with a barn wedding

Barns do not always have all of the services and amenities that other venues might have. You will most likely have to bring your own tables and chairs, a generator for lighting, and you may even need to rent a tent just in case of rain. If you plan on having a bunch of people, you should also check to see if the bathrooms are up to your standards. You may need to rent a porta potty service for the day.

You also need to check and make sure that the barn has enough places for people to park. You may even have handicapped people attend your wedding, and the last thing you want is for them to fall down and get hurt if the ground is not stable and they are unable to park close to the venue.

In general, if you decide to have your wedding outside, make sure that you have bug spray available for your guests. If you plan on getting married outside in Georgia, bug spray is a must. As far as other creatures, you need to make sure that the barn doesn’t actually have animals in it on your big day. Horses neighing in the background is not the source of entertainment that you want on your wedding day. If you would like to take pictures with the animals beforehand, that is fine, but make sure that you have someone take care of them during the actual ceremony.

If you plan on having a barn wedding in the warmer months, I recommend printing your program onto a paper fan. This way your guests will have something to fan themselves with; as well as, you are saving money by not providing your guests with both a program and a fan.
