Situated at the heart of Athens Historical District on Milledge Avenue is the grand Hardeman-Sams House. Originally known for hosting extravagant parties, Hardeman-Sams Estate now welcomes many different types of events including weddings, social celebrations, birthday parties, and corporate events. After being purchased by the Moss’s in 2016, this venue has undergone restorations that celebrate the historical value of the home while integrating modern conveniences. Hardeman-Sams House holds a significant history in Athens and continues to provide a space for life-long memories to be made.

HISTORY

Hardeman-Sams House, also known as 255 Milledge, was built in 1910 by Benjamin Frank Hardeman and his wife, Annie. The Hardeman’s were known for hosting the grandest social gatherings in Northeast Georgia in their home. This fact comes as no surprise, considering the estate’s large scale and open floor plan. To this day, 255 Milledge’s legacy of hosting some of the most tasteful events in Georgia holds true.

THE ESTATE

From the basement to the two-and-a-half story overhead, the Hardeman-Sams House comprises a total of 5,000 square feet. Doric columns line the brick exterior and support the grand entrance portico and porch. Windows line the exterior on all three floors, allowing light to shine through the trees and glimmer within the home. Upon entering the estate, a wide staircase facing the door protrudes into the foyer– providing the perfect entrance for any bride.

The remainder of the home includes a parlor, a spacious dining room, the kitchen area, the family’s bedrooms, and a sunroom that overlooks the formal gardens. Ceremonies and/or receptions are often held in the gardens, as it offers a tranquil setting for an intimate evening. Additionally, the Hardeman’s had five replica mantels made for the home designed after Athens Welcome Center, Brumby House. All the unique, historic features of this home make it a venue of eloquence.
