A priest makes an argument late in the action. He quotes a passage from Corinthians that denounces fornicators, adulterers, male prostitutes, and sodomites. He calls it one of the most damning, hurtful, and misused Christian passages in the Bible. He sees a direct correlation between those words and the rise of gay Catholic suicides. Writer-director Otoja Abit likes religious traditions, but thinks the church is hypocritical. The movie makes other value judgments, too. This movie says it’s better to be with your gay, middle-class love than with your rich hetero boyfriend and his parents. The movie mixes social commentary with a fantasy about a woman still yearning for her dead first love. The movie is likeable and makes love and inclusion look good.
