Why did Lily lie in Broken Vows?

She learns that Lily has BPD and that it explains her actions. I don’t know much about BPD, but every case is different. But I don’t understand why the whole book’s plot twist was that. The doctor let Lily have those delusions for two years. And her father found out right after she passed away but didn’t tell Celeste for six years. After everything was out in the open, she told Zane. She apologized for months. He forgave her and wanted to give them a chance. After that, everything seemed to go well. That was until she saw him working with the female botanist and got jealous. Zane said he couldn’t do this again because she still doesn’t trust him. He doesn’t want to be accused of doing something he didn’t do. She told her brother everything, and he said he’d have a hard time forgiving her too. But they love each other, so she should give him a chance. She asked their grandparents to end their marriage so she could let Zane go. Zane said they would try to work it out because he couldn’t be away from her. After all that, the rest of the chapters were good. He apologized and they started trusting each other again. He proposed with a rose diamond ring, the same one he got for her five years ago. I loved that in the epilogue, they renewed their vows every year. Their daughter was adorable. The first 35 chapters, some of the last chapters, and the two epilogues were the only reason this book was a 3-star read for me! I loved Lex and Raya in the epilogues. I’m excited for them! AND Xavier and Sierra are together and married in the “10 year later” epilogue. I hope they will be better.
