The average destination wedding cost in 2023 is $41,000, a 15% increase from 2022’s $35,600. This is due to the fact that the farther you venture, the more expensive the wedding. Popular European destinations like Italy’s Lake Como and French Polynesia favorites like Bali rank high on the list. However, destination weddings can be even more affordable than traditional stateside weddings, as they can include extra amenities, inclusions, and add-ons that may not be available to you if you held your wedding domestically.
Destination weddings can offer a more intimate feel if there are fewer guests attending, as it may not be feasible for 200 people to attend a wedding in Bali. On average, couples who marry abroad spend less than $10,000 on average for their entire wedding experience. Traditional, local weddings cost closer to $20,000-$30,000 per person.
Destination weddings can be as expensive or budget-friendly as you would like them to be, as they can include everything you want and more that may not be available to you if you held your wedding domestically. The average cost of airfare can be budgeted for around $1,000 for two round-trip tickets. The average length of stay for guests attending an international destination wedding is 4 nights.
Despite the higher cost of destination weddings, they have proven to be a cheaper option than the average US-based celebration, which cost couples nearly $40,000 in 2023. The typical destination wedding costs $32,700 on average ($38,700 if you include the cost of the engagement ring).

📹 Why These Millennial Brides Say A Wedding Isn’t Worth The Money
The wedding industry often sells couples a fantasy: This is the best, happiest or most important day of your life. It’s how some …
I think it’s also very cultural. Like I will speak for Africans while it’s changing nowadays. In our culture a wedding is a time for both sides of the family to come together, bond and celebrate the married couple cause we marry into the whole extended family not just the immediate part. So definitely doing a destination wedding in that sort of culture is kinda like oohh what is you doing esp if your family.is very traditional…And I ain’t gonna lie as an African I prefer our bigger weddings ( if you can afford) cause it’s just so lit and fun.
My brother is from Chicago, and moved to Denver almost 13 years ago. He had a small wedding in Denver, guessing 80 guests. Most were friends and family from Chicago. We had a wedding party for them like 6 weeks before the wedding for the family and friends who couldn’t afford to go to Denver, but still wanted to celebrate the upcoming marriage.
My husband And I did this..I wanted a big wedding but no one was willing to help but once they found out I was leaving then everyone like oh I can help..it was too late ..I made up my mind and when I got back I had a reception and whoever didn’t show up that was on them 🤷🏽♀️ .I enjoyed my day nonetheless
It is absolutely rude unless you know that the majority of your friends and/or family you will be inviting will have the means. Because it’s a hell of a lot to ask someone to travel (especially if it involves flying), pay for their stay, buy you a gift, etc. If you know damn well the majority of your close friends are working-class people without that kind of coin, and you’re going to be upset if they aren’t there- you can’t expect them to use their vacation/leave from work, etc on your wedding.
I wanted a small group, had it locally, and still only invited immediate family! I only had one person at my wedding who I didn’t want there. She was an ex to my brother in law and came as his date to watch their kids because he was in the wedding party. We had 64 people at our wedding and expected 65, so we even got money back for the one less person! I don’t feel bad for not inviting the aunts and cousins who I’m not close with just because they think they should of been there! It was the perfect day with no drama!
My close family member planned a destination wedding and at first of course I was sad because I knew my husband and I wouldn’t be able to go but I was also so happy for her to get her dream wedding on a beach and if it were me and I could have had my wedding in Hawaii I would take that chance too! No hard feelings! It is their special day! 🙂
Your wedding. Have it where you want with who you want. Give notice. Be prepared for people to say no. Or be prepared to pay for a few people. Be prepared to throw a reception when you get back. Also stop inviting people out of obligation… invite who you TRULY want to celebrate the day with. Can be expensive but you could do your honeymoon in one or if you have kids spend the time tying the family together.
I had a destination wedding and made sure everyone knew that I wanted it very small and only wanted immediate family only at the ceremony. My dream wedding was everything I wanted and more. I came home and had a party with everyone else. Nobody got there feelings hurt, because they all knew from the beginning what I was doing
My sister is having her wedding in flordia, I am just starting off on my own and can’t afford the trip, she is mad at me for refusing to go to her wedding. I think it is pretty rude of her to do such. If a couple is going to have a wedding away from their hometown, they should be prepared for some of their invitees to not be able to come.
I had a destination wedding & we gave guest a year notice. We did it because it was cost effective. Our 250 guest list turned into 55. I agree the couple shouldn’t be upset if certain people can’t attend, it’s expected. We saved a lot of money & was able to purchase our house when we returned from our destination wedding
🤸🏾♀️YES TO ALLL OF THIS! Adrienne hit the nail on the head! It’s a celebration of love and let people have their dream wedding! 🙌🏾 I’m a Proud DestiBride – Mexico 2017 (whoop whoop🤣) and I also host a podcast where I interview other destination wedding couples so I’ve heard alll the stories. Most times people THINK they’re expected to attend, but the reality is more like I’m having a destination wedding…come if you want. And some couples already “know” you’re not coming, but invite you anyway – sounds like what Adrienne did and it backfired. I always advise brides to only invite what you can afford and want because nowadays people are more likely to accept for the travel experience. I LOVE DESTINATION WEDDINGS!!! 💕🛫 👰🏾💍💕
I wish they went back to talking about topics that were NOT related to relationships, sex and marriage. The earlier seasons with Tamar at least had a variety but now 8/10 of them relate to it and as a single girl all I can do is not relate #berelatable – a young single one should be added to this show !
I’ve never been married but, this is also a toughie, depending upon culture. I work with a number of people who are from India and, although I don’t know much about Indian weddings, my impression is that, despite the fact that they and, perhaps, many of their friends and family members are in the US, when it comes time for a wedding, it is likely to be held in India, for days and, if you’re invited, you’re expected to be there. Like it’s almost assumed that, you’re saving for the possibility of going to a wedding, the same way you’d save for retirement.
When my sister got engaged back in 2002, she decided to have a destination wedding in Jamaica, with the venue also doubling as their honeymoon destination. The majority of both immediate families were able to attend, except for my grandmother who was in a wheelchair. We were there for four days, attended the wedding which she also articletaped. When they arrived back in the states a few days later they hosted a big reception for everyone who were unable to attend and showed the footage of the wedding as well. No one felt slighted or left out as a result. She picked Jamaica because it was part of my family heritage, plus we have family there as well who attended so it became a small family reunion.
I think it is rude if you have a destination wedding and you act like everyone has the time and money to just drop everything and fly to fiji yknow? My friends parents had one and sent out all these invites and about 30 people came and her mother said it wasn’t fun because her own sister couldn’t make it. I understand the whole fairytale wedding thing but id rather have my wedding at home and have all my friends and family watch me get married than go to paris and only 20 people show up.
My aunt is planning a destination wedding… her and her mans are pretty well off going skiing all the time, cruises etc. she damn well knows my family and I cannot even begin to afford to go any where but she hasn’t mentioned anything about paying our way.. so if it’s that important for 1. you to have a destination wedding and 2. If you want your family to be there, you’d think about that before planning or let us know you got us with flights and hotels. Cause other than that auntie I ain’t going sorry not sorry
What if where you’re from seems like a destination wedding for some people? For instance, I’m from the Caribbean and currently live in the states. I’ve always planned on getting married in my home country where my family is, but know that it may be an expensive trip for some of my friends and future fiance’s family here in the states.
It depends on what your priority is for your wedding. And be realistic with yourself about the type of guests you plan to invite. Like you may be able to afford things like traveling for a friend’s wedding; but some friends might not be able to afford even a babysitter for the night of the wedding, much less getting days off from work.
It’s your day, yes….but there are also people who love you who want to be a part of it, and the cost is unrealistic. If you’re not a celebrity with wealthy friends, it is important to find a way to include everyone. Going to a destination wedding is costly….missing work hours, plus airfare and hotel, etc. It’s not right to expect anyone to “save up” to go to your wedding. Have a local reception afterwards, or compromise a bit on your ideas to make sure all loved ones can participate. The memories of having everyone around you are well worth a little sacrifice.
In Indian culture, at least where I come from, we the brides family covers the cost for the guests to stay at a hotel while the grooms family covers the cost for the actual wedding and food. For the other “wedding” days (we have multiple different days for different things) both families contribute. But keep in mind, you invite immediate family to distant cousins that you probably talked to only once in your life (It gets to around 200 to 300 guests). and it gets expensive. So if they want to have a destination wedding I get that if they want to say money in the long run.
NO NOT rude at all. As a future bride of a destination wedding, we are picking it because it allows me to have my dream wedding at half the cost and allows me to take a step back from being an overthinking perfectionist with anxiety just to make sure everything is just right. It’s hard to mess up the natural beauty and scenery of a beach backdrop. Not to mention my fiancé and I are getting 2 for 1 since we are using it as our honeymoon as well. And lastly this is about really about US and our big day, so ones that need to be there, WILL be and those that can’t make it, we won’t be mad and will understand if you can’t. Things happen. Life goes on ! Simple as that ! 🤷🏽♀️💯
I would not have a destination wedding if my parents can’t afford them. However, we are blessed that we can afford going and having a destination wedding. My uncle got married in Destin, Florida and the majority of us live in Nj, PA and Nebraska . Yet we all came because he told us 8 months in advance . We used it as our vacation and only withe the immediate family that we did activities together after the wedding like perusal dolphins, going to the pool or beach together. The wedding was less than 100 people but it was so much fun. We spent a few days there and then all went to Orlando, Fl.It has been the best vacation and wedding because I rarely get to see my entire family together. Great memories ❤️
The thing about destination weddings that gets me is once i’ve booked my plane ticket, my hotel, and bought a dress and shoes, that leaves me with less $ to give as a gift in the card, which makes me feel bad but at the end of the day, if it already costed me 300+ just to BE here, I can’t give you a generous gift. Plus if you’re actually standing up in a wedding and had to buy a bridal shower gift, attend a bach party and buy a bach gift on top of the travel and gift for the wedding, that’s even more expensive. I understand weddings are a beautiful, magical day that should be special, but I just wish more people understood that not everyone is made of money.
Yes! I think it’s rude. I’ve been married twice, both destination weddings. The first – we had no guests and a big party when we came home, cost 10k (my ex’s aunt said we did it to get gifts 🙄.) my second wedding, we got married just the two of us and didn’t have a party. It was perfect! A few close friends bought us gifts – we shared beautiful photos on social media. To include my girlfriends – I invited them to come help choose my dress. We didn’t expect anything from anyone. And for those who want to share their love and special day, that’s awesome! But if you expect people to travel, spend a lot of money & buy you a gift. Please think of your friends & their financial situation- it’s too far reaching for most. Even weddings are insane – bridal showers, bachelorette parties – some have both & expect gifts at both! Celebrating a friends wedding nowadays in well over $500. I remember going to a friends with all the obligations – it was well over $1000. Celebrate your friends – simplify – they’ll love you more
Traditionally, Asian weddings would have 400/500/600 ppl…everybody and their mother would come…the bride and groom’s parents would invite their friends as a token of respect and as return of favor for having attended their friend’s kids wedding. I cut out all them peeps!! We had our destination wedding 8/18/18 in Punta Cana with 60 people and it was amazing. A week long wedding activities, everyone was on vaca mode, more intimate and bonding times. I would do it all over again! And yes, we had a big wedding cookout after at home to accommodate the people who couldn’t make it or afford the destination.
I’m having a destination wedding, it’s intentional for me because I want a small people and I agree with Adrienne I want a small group if I have an actual wedding it would be 200+ people. I want to enjoy my day and not worry about what’s going wrong or right. But we are having a big reception when we get back. And I’m only funding myself & my fiancé.
If I’m ever getting married it’s gonna be a destination wedding for sure like weddings in my country have usually over 500 guests consisting mainly of people u never heard of in ur life and it’s not just one day it consists of many days with different ceremonies and all but what i want is a small wedding with only close family that i know like stopping at my first cousins and my close friends and it’s gonna be simple and romantic one day ceremony
Like Adrienne said, her destination wedding was a move to keep the numbers down. Its like a polite/reverse rejection, I don’t how to describe it. You’re welcome to come, if you can afford it 🙄. It’s also timing as well, if you having a quick destination wedding that doesn’t give guests time to save the cash then yes you really trying to keep it a small wedding even more.
Jeanne so had a point that why should you comprise your dream day to accommodate others I personally prefer Tamara’s one at the beginning the comprise. Honestly I think I would fly the people who were my immediate family accommodation and my parents and 2 of my close friends but the others would have to fund it themselves. Or if they cant come its understandable. I wouldn’t expect them to come if they cant finance it we can do like a party where its local.
Thank you Loni these witches always being getting of track lol also yes I don’t think it’ is rude only if they are expecting or demanding you go then it’s rude AF. if I can’t afford it I just won’t go simple as that they can have there wedding wherever they want but if I can’t afford to go I simply won’t go
Unless you live in the same town where the wedding is, most weddings are destination these days. Our wedding in Idaho was a destination for most guests because we didn’t grow up in Idaho, though that’s where my husband and I lived at the time. Same with the wedding I’m in in April which is in Alabama. It’s an expensive trip to get down there for. Destination weddings are more than just fun tropical beaches or foreign estates.
I have a question on a small delimma I’m currently in! What if you as a bride want a small intimate wedding with selective few people that you feel have supported you and your fiancée throughout the relationship… BUT your fiancé wants a larger wedding to invite the greater part of the family even though they never even asked how your relationship was doing or never even met you! What would you do? How would you go about that? Haaaalp
Got engaged on 6/9/19 we are planning to elope in 11/19. I won a bride pampering day for 6 from David’s bridal but I’m sad that it will just be me and my mom, no one else wants to go or is able, I cried my eyes out and still get teary . I Need to focus on what I can, we are having a small get together in 7/20 and another one with my family in Mexico in 12/20. 😢
My dad didn’t invite me or any of my siblings to his third wedding. We were 16,13, and 9. Because he knew we didn’t approve of this marriage. And to make sure we really wouldn’t be there he made it a destination wedding. I’m not 2 I can behave myself at a wedding. But because of that incident it has kinda ruined destination weddings for me.
Its not rude, but whats rude is the bride being annoyed or holding a grudge if you can’t go. I live in the UK and got invited to a wedding in America… that would be at least a £600 flight for me, not including expenses as well as multiple days off work (her wedding was over 3 days). I said I’m sorry in the nicest way possible and expressed that I really wish I could be there but work commitments and money etc means that I couldn’t. She wouldn’t stop messaging me and pressuring me to go, and kept on going on about how the flights ‘weren’t that bad’ and I had a high paying job (in her opinion) to afford it. Now thats rude.
See this is why when it comes to the day I get married I am just going to elope then my husband and I will spend the first week of marriage just use somewhere and then when we get back we will celebrate with family and friends by putting together a cook out. Makes things so much less complicated, you save money you can use on other things and everyone has the opportunity to celebrate with you.
One of my distant cousins got married in who knows where, in Mexico. They had no plans moving there, or setting my family with maybe a guesthouse, so shoot, I didn’t go. I ain’t gonna go to another country, not know Anything about the city, Plus my brother’s girlfriend’s mom was actually the one that set my family up with one of Their guesthouses. Jeez, So much drama for that. Oh, and my family literally drove too. My cousin and his girlfriend were mad and tried to guilt me into going, saying I was their favorite. Dude, so? If I was your favorite, have it here! They wanted their wedding in Mexico and Did expect Everyone to go. Even distant family. THAT’s rude! My sister’s wedding, was actually pretty local, and she was very flexible if people couldn’t make it. I didn’t especially wanna go, but she set up a suite for us, and even offered our family from a far drive, to stay in her suite after she would go to her honeymoon. That’s how you flippin do it! But my distant cousin, no Wonder why they’re distant. And I hope it stays like that. Rude much.
Not rude at all! It’s your day and you get to decide where. I want a destination wedding when I am older, and I am not inviting any extended fam at all cause I am not close to them. And, then I only care about my close friends( and then whoever I am marrying will decided who he wants of course). Also, I would only invite people I know who I think can afford it. Is that rude? No. It’s considerate. But, I believe if you have older parents/grandparents and you, of course, want them to your wedding then you pay for it. but having a big party when you come back for ppl who couldnt attend is smart
Many have a destination wedding do they didn’t gave to invite a lot of people. But I think it can be selfish as some many not afford it but don’t want to tell them. Also guests have to give up their holiday dates to go and with some people multiple friends get married a year it all becomes do expensive.
Get this. (Talk about weird timing of this article) One of my friends is marrying a guy she met on Tinder a couple of months ago, in September. I just received an email yesterday from her seeking $500 from her friends to pay for their beach wedding in Puerto Rico. Why? Because they don’t have the money (he’s fine but poor)and he thinks she is wealthy. He’s 25 years younger than her so she lied about her wealth. I of course said no and pointed out everything about this is a train wreck. Yet again another friend that dumped me because I am “judgemental.”🙄🙄🙄
Thank God for Loni. I was waiting for at least one of them to say what she later said but none of them did. I can’t blame them because they’ve been rich for so long that they forget that not everybody can do what they do. I agree it’s not rude but when you want certain close relatives and friends to come and you’re not paying for their ticket or anything just keep in mind for foreign weddings that some people can’t afford it.
Love destination weddings! Mine was in Portugal where mostly my family is and it was amazing and so much cheaper too. What I find rude is no children weddings. We were invited at one of those and they didn’t mention in the invite so when we send the invite back saying yes we will be happy to attend, they called us saying sorry no kids. We simply said sorry we can’t go then, no babysitter, no family to care for our little ones so we just didn’t go.
At first Adrienne made it seem as if her and Israel didn’t pay for anyone to come to their wedding (1:15) but then said that she paid for her mom (and more than likely her immediate family as well 3:50) so yeah she chose to have a destination wedding and had to pay for some of the important folks to be there.
I would want to be able to walk past or at least drive past the place we got married so a destination would be a no for me (unless that location had some sentimental connection). I think why invite all people and then hope someone would not come. Invite only who you want its your day. I dont think this type of wedding is rude and if people can afford to go like Tamera said (have a party) but I also think throwing a party and you actually being at my wedding to witness that bondage of love are two different things. (But hey thats just me)
I think if you are going to have a destination wedding you should pay for all of your family and friends to go! Because not everyone has the same money to just stop that we are doing and spend like 3k to go to Jamaica or Hawaii for your wedding! I feel like if you have a destination wedding and expecting people to buy their plane tickets and places to stay I feel like that’s selfish especially if they cant afford it. If you want a destination wedding, and you want your family and friends to come you should pay for them.
My thing is that most people have a general sense of the income of the people in their family and friends circle. So no one should be shocked if most of them can’t make it if u know they don’t have a lot of extra money to spend. It’s ur choice to have a destination wedding and it’s their choice to say yes or no.
People be complaining about other peoples weddings as if theyre paying for it. If youre not paying for that couples wedding you have NO say in what they do. If you cant afford going to a destination wedding kindly decline, send a gift and keep it pushing. But my god people really be feeling entitled when its not even their day
I don’t think that a couple should have to sacrifice what they really want just to accommodate someone who may not even show up. People have destination weddings for different reasons, whether they’re financial, sentimental, etc. Just like the couple shouldn’t expect for everyone they invite to attend, guests shouldn’t expect to get a free vacation, especially if they aren’t close family or a member of the wedding party. At the end of the day, it all comes down to whether they want a really nice wedding with two people showing up or if they want a cheap-looking wedding with 100+ people showing up.
I don’t think it’s rude. You do what you want to do because it’s YOUR special day but it can be a burden to some. I personally want my friends and family there and that’s why we have Honeymoons. So I don’t care where I get married but it can add up. I’m the MOH for my cousins upcoming wedding and when she told me it was going to be a destination wedding, I was worried. I was thinking of how much it was going to cost and what if I didn’t have the money. Now she’ll be getting married closer and I’m very happy but it’s not rude. You do what you want to do.
Destination weddings aren’t rude,it’s their day. Plus ima make sure my wedding party and family members are paid for.. I prefer a more intimate setting in a beautiful location. Plus you get to have a honey moon and wedding rolled into one. I don’t feel like inviting 1500 of my Facebook friends lol. It maybe 20-30 people and that’s pushing it..
I’m sorry but as someone who’s been praying for the life I want since I was maybe six, I’m having my destination wedding, but it’s gonna be less 50 and my future husband and I will pay for it. If I really want you there, I’m gonna do everything in my power to get you there. The only thing I want someone to pay for at my wedding is my dress (and that will be my Dad.)
I don’t understand lol. I’m not having my wedding in South Africa because I hope some people can’t come. If I don’t want you there I won’t invite you. If you don’t want someone at your wedding, don’t extend an invitation. But if you want to have your wedding in South Africa because that’s just where you want to get married, then fine.
These ladies obviously forgot how does it feel to be broke. Going on a wedding itself is very expensive, imagine if on top of your present and outfit you have to spend your savings or money you don’t have on somebody else big day. Not rude in case bride or groom understand your situation but there is always that one pushy friend who will force you to come and you end up feeling like piece of sh** because you didn’t came and participate because you can’t affort it. I live in country away from my friends and family and got married with only two witnesses as guests and was the best decision I could ever do!
I do think it’s wrong as a couple to expect family and friends to spend so much money and take off work or whatever just to be at your wedding…that’s asking alot. I don’t have money like that. I don’t care to do all that just for someone else’s day. why not just have your honeymoon at the destination?
I find it funny that a lot of people think millennials and younger generations have difficulties communicating with people because of social media, but they just admitted to scheduling destination weddings to avoid having to not invite people to weddings when they could have just communicated that directly. I think destination weddings are fun and great, but why not just invite who you want and leave it at that? Why be passive about it by inviting people to a wedding they can not afford to avoid feeling bad on your end?
ex home girl came at me sideways because I couldn’t make it to her bridal shower… on the other side of the country. I was planning to send a gift and see her at the wedding but I guess she expected me to drop $1000+ dollars on her. A month later she comes into town and doesn’t even hit me up. The audacity. Didn’t send her a gift, didn’t go to her wedding. Didn’t text her back when she reached out like. “hey I’ve been trying to get in contact with you.” Little ungrateful ass.
My sister had her wedding in Germany and I didnt go. I was 8 months pregnant, already had 2 kids. And she only gave 4 months notice. I would’ve had to pay for passports, the flights and I was simply too pregnant to go. It was going to cost us like 8gs plus the headache of traveling with a 5 and 1 year old. She was PISSED. I was like hold up. You paying?
If you close to someone you know the people that will be able to afford a destination wedding and you expect people to spend a lot of money for a wedding that’s not there’s it is rude. In August I’m going to a destination wedding to Jamaica. It was 1000$ plus the plane ticket, it can be expensive and you will have to understand not everyone wants to spend money on it. Knowing my family and loves ones I will never have a destination wedding in another country because I know half won’t make it because of money but if we talking about across state lines you can figure it out. Honestly you should always take you guess into consideration if you don’t it rude
It’s not rude at all. I understand if cannot make it and I wouldn’t be mad at you for it. But if you were mad at me because I decided to have a destination wedding then I would be mad because it’s my wedding. I would probably do what Tam Tam and Ade said. Have a party for the ones who couldn’t make it and celebrate then.
250?!?! I don’t feel like it’s rude. I would do what Tamera said and I would elope somewhere romantic and celebrate with my loved ones when I come back. But it just takes effective planning. If my wedding is a year later, and you don’t make it, I feel like it’s on the person who was invited. You had a year, what happened? Unless it was something sudden that you couldn’t help I would understand. But if you’re just lazy and not trying to save that’s a different story 🤷🏽♀️
If you have a destination wedding you have to be ready to accept and respect that not everyone can afford it. Likewise, if a couple you know is getting married you have to accept and respect that this is THEIR wedding day and they can do whatever they want. that doesn’t mean they’re rude, selfish, actually, it would be rude of you to think that of them because it implies you’re only thinking of yourself when it’s their special day
Wedding’s get expensive on people regardless of location. Especially if you are in the wedding party it is expensive amd time consuming. However or wherever you want your to be it isnt rude just of course be realistic it can cost up to or even over 5,000 dollars to travel overseas, and most people cant afford that, plus having to make arrangements with work and pets ect..so if people cant go they cant go. I think for the most part though couples who ha e destination weddings expect for it to be small.
I’ve been the type of person that doesn’t really believe in weddings. I believe in marriage of course, but I’ve always found people who want huge dream weddings to kind of self-absorbed and attention-seeking. Weddings are unbelievably expensive, and there are so many other ways that you could better use that money. A wedding is your special day and you can have it wherever you want, but don’t blame or hate people if they don’t want the hassle of coming out to your destination wedding.
I know the wedding is about the bride and groom but you have to consider people they have been there for you to take and then and the people have been there for you every since you were little it is kind of rude for you to have a wedding in Paris or Italy Knowing damn well they can’t afford it they helped you get where you are but then all of a sudden you just leave them behind how rude
It depends.. If you know your family cant afford to go and jnvite expecting then to pay.. When they work at mcdonalds.. You are rude.. But if thats the case invite people your are gonna pay for the whole trip… Now if your family can pay it themselves then its ok its not rude… In ny case my loveones are low to middle class hard workers who plan out their kids school uniforms and stuff.. So my wedding will be at an all inclusive coupkes only resort.. And the guest list would be my parents her parents .. 2 pairs of friends each. 7 couples including us payed by us.. Probably 25k for a week. If i got more i could decide to pamper them more (example a full spa day on wedding day..for bride and mother and maiden of honor) or invite more guest.. Depends how nuch i get to save.. Maybe i can add my brothers or 2 more friends each… I would probably stay small and just splurge and pamper the guest… You see, ive moved in together for years.. Here girls dont care about getting married.. So its more for pampering my loved ones.. And giving her a “i didnt know what i was missing this is magical” day. .. Who knows who it would be.. It would probably be my baby momma, but she is nuts. I love her… So who knows.
John Legend said he and his wife actually paid to fly out any loved ones who couldn’t afford to attend their wedding. If you’re in that position, great. If not, then for sure let people know well in advance. The other side of it is exactly what Tamera said, if the ones you love…the ones who always have your back and you wouldn’t want them to miss this moment, can’t make it, then you compromise. That’s not the same as making your day about other people. That’s about YOU. I mean you want them there, don’t you…😂
RUDE? It’s our day and we are paying for it. Most people do it because they do not want to have a big wedding. Me and my fiancé are having a destination wedding for that reason and it is much more affordable. Unless somebody is paying for it then they have nothing to say about our day. Key word “Our”
I just think of you know your mom or dad can’t afford to go, or your siblings or best friends? Poor people don’t assume you didn’t go simply because you didn’t want to.. they know it’s expensive. Plus if you want to pay for people who can’t afford to go you also have to be able afford it. I know if my mom couldn’t afford to go, and I said the destination was more important than her being there… it would hurt her. I would never do that though. I’ve been married for 6 going on 7 years… we got married at the court house. We plan on having a SIMPLE church wedding.. because that’s important to us. But I’m saving all my money to go on a fancy honeymoon without our kids lmao. So… you know, balance 🙂
~ IF NOTHING ELSE OVER THE LAST 2+ HAS BEEN LEARNED, IT IS THAT people in the whatever % have no clue what “regular” life is all about. We have also learned the definitions of self-obsessed, clueless, and willful ignorance. Americans are living up the their reputations as unpleasant and awful stereotypes. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
I don’t think it’s necessarily rude but Loni really understand what was being asked when I think everyone else didn’t. It’s hard when you want a special day in Paris and you know your family can not afford a wedding in Paris. It’s rude when you can’t afford to go and the couple makes you feel bad for not coming because they don’t understand why money is an issue. But I mean I’m sitting here like, girl way not honeymoon in Paris? Like i don’t get it lol but I’m not married so I probably don’t understand
Everyone always comments things like “Thank god Loni always understand what the people are actually talking about” but half the time she doesn’t. Often times I notice she adds things to the question that were never discussed at all in the topic. Nothing implied that the topic or the people we thought it was rude to have a destination were actually talking about people being rude because others can’t attend the wedding. Furthermore, the question was ‘are destination weddings rude?’ She makes assumptions on things that aren’t present in the research. When dealing with board topics and very general questions it’s important to remain impartial and unbiased. Loni doesn’t do that. Everyone thinks the other ladies miss the point but more often than not it seems like Loni does. It’s not about how you interpret the question or what you think the people are thinking it’s about being about to use the research and topic question presented in order to formulate an appropriate response. Once again Loni often doesn’t do that. Just saying.
Idk I was just talking about with my husband. I know my husband’s little brother had one in Mt Hood,OR because my brother and sister in law met there. My mother in law rented out the mt.hood area for three days. Now fast forward some years I’m with my husband. No we’re not legally married but being together almost ten years. Been through homelessness and everything in between. So when we do go with a ceremony. We know only a few people are gonna come. We’re not exactly social butterflies. And tbh that’s too much planning for 200 people. So if like 20 come great. Would I make it in Hawaii or even OR. We live in DC. That would still break the bank. So I think simple is better but that’s my cup of tea. Yes I’ve seen the big church weddings too, locally Still looks like they spent a lot. But they had it like that. So whatever you can do I guess. Just don’t impose supper Draconian stuff. Like you all have to wear hit pink high heels and have 13 dresses to change into while we’re in the wedding at the Bahamas. Don’t be unrealistic. Now have a great day. Thanks for reading this comment. You’re awesome.
Yeah, I’d say it’s more than rude for a bride and groom to expect everyone to come to a wedding abroad especially if they don’t even get along with them, don’t resonate 1% with the others who are invited and have behavioural issues. I seriously cannot stand weddings. I doubt I’m even going to get married. Besides females today expect men to have a lot of money and do everything for them, therefore it doesn’t make sense to have anything to do with them if they’re that unreasonable. I’m satisfied as a single male anyway. It’s much better than being with a stupid cow who just “loves” you for your money.
It’s not rude. It’s only rude if the couple is angered by someone declining the invite. Honestly, I think it’s all about knowing your tribe—if you have family & friends who are in constant financial hardship then you should know they won’t be able to afford a destination wedding or time off of work. If your heart is set on a destination then fine, you just have to be content with the fact that those ppl may not be there. If you absolutely have to have them there then you should be willing to pay for them to go. Or if you’re willing to change locations, keep it local/domestic & honeymoon internationally.
I’m having a destination wedding. I am well aware that not a lot of people will come for whatever reason but am in no way offended. I threw out the gift registry, will have no bridesmaids, and created a honeypot to pay for some people who we really had to have on that day. =) Also this wedding will take place in 1.5 years.
