I traveled to the Philippines and met my Filipina girlfriend in 2019. Spent 3 weeks in February and March, getting to know her better and got engaged. Then I went back again in June and spent 75 days with her over a period of 5 1/2 months. We filed all of the Fiancee’ paperwork and were approved in 2019. I had flight reservations to go back in April, 2020 to help her schedule her interview and physical exam, but Covid brought everything to a halt. This is all we have left to do. I can’t go back there and with the U.S. Embassy not processing K1 fiancee’ Visas, we don’t really know what to do. So frustrating!

Hi. My partner and I met in person in February 2023. We have pictures even with some of my family members. People are doing this online wedding not so much to apply for the CR-1, but to get into places where only a spouse can get into due to pandemic. Then, they have met, and they can apply for CR-1 (and if they need to have a second ceremony there, they can). This is country dependent, of course, but the real point is to use this so that you have a legal United States marriage certificate, and thus the country you are going to gives you a visa since most others are restricted.

I don’t know about the Fiancé visa. I seem to know a bit more than you, even about the law. The law based on the US immigration perspective does allow for proxy/online. marriages. It does require the marriage to be consummated. So, do not file the Form 130 until that happens. The consummation part can take place any time after the proxy marriage. Research it more. I have seen it. It’s easy to research it. There are a few Sates that recognize proxy marriages. I don’t know how that part would come into the equation. I tend to think the US immigration and States are mutually exclusive. From that perspective, the couples may have to remarry in their States. One positive aspect of this proxy as related to the Philippines is that it would allow the foreigner to travel to the Philippines as a spouse of the Filipino citizen now that the pandemic constraints are in place. where. Here’s an advice for you: look outside of the box! Don’t just try to reinforce your reasoning based on what you know. Do your homework! 🙂
