  • 5:33 usually, racing harnesses have something, i don’t know how it’s called. let’s just call it a rip point. but basically it’s a part of the seatbelt that has overlay, so when the harness is put under stress, this overlay rips to extend the harnesses in the shoulder area about 3-4 inches out (probably more, probably less, as long as you get the point of what im saying). if i remember correctly, takata has that, i don’t know about other manufacturers. but also, one point about racing harnesses that you forgot is the sinking. with factory seatbelts, you dont really get that, but with 4-point racing harnesses, what can happen is you slide under the harnesses. although a 5-point/6-point harness might fix that because you’ll have a belt going in between your legs. but don’t quote me on the first part, i remember seeing it somewhere. where? i dont remember, but if i do find the link, i’ll post it in the replies

  • Where to start, guess go watch the article for even real brides or recaro in a rear impact, rear brides fully recline when hit from the back. S13s in the usa came with automatic seat belts which were garbage to begin with, not surprised the prior owner removed them but should have installed oem jdm 3pt seatbelts. Also stock s13 240s didnt have airbags at all to begin with so the steering wheel point is invalid unless your driving a late model with airbags. As for the brackets theres tons of companies that offer sliding seat rails for aftermarket seats. That being said either you have a street car or a track car. If its a track car it should be fully caged, have the proper non reclining buckets and harnesses (that should be dated and expire after a duration of time and need to be replaced occasionally)

The pretensioner takes up all belt slack in a crash (a loose belt can be like having no belt, or worse). The wheel airbag and seat belt pretensioner comprise a tuned safety system .. think carefully before removing / disabling one of these (especially the passenger side, for your passenger made no choice to compromise safety before entering your vehicle = lawsuit). This is a good article, great to show this example of how NOT to mount a junky seat .. those flimsy floor brackets and seat, totally defeat the whole purpose of gaining performance .. the idea is to stiff side support for the driver, to deal with those ++1G turns … a flimsy install means seat movement side to side, which to a driver, is almost as bad as sliding side to side on the OEM seat. Driver seated stability yields lower track times, less fatigue, and higher driver confidence … once you have experienced it, you will know exactly what i am talking about! The seat and brackets shown in this article are all show and NO Go .. only great for parking at the coffee shop parking lot and telling stories of your “hidden” turbos & 200mph drifting during a police chase.

  • crashed into a tree at 70mph in a 180sx in a REAL BRIDE, with REAL TAKATA 3pt HARNESS connected to a half cage. Also wearing a Neck donut and helmet. Walked away totally safe. Wouldn’t have traded my “Office” for a regular seat belt in that type of situation. The harness/seat/half cage/helmet/neck restraint of any kind is the key. Take one of those out of the equation and the rest becomes dangerous.

I got a pair of sparco’s that have so many tears in the fabric, and bride covers would look sick :p Also I disagree on part with the seat belts, if you have your harnesses adjusted looser than you would on track then you have that lil’ bit of movement- and still let the airbag catch your head! that’s if you have the luxury of a car that was manufactured with airbags!

  • Dude… You wine too much….. Edit: A track belt is going to keep you way way wayy safer. Your not supposed to move. The fabric stretches . I smashed my face when my airbag failed to deploy. bones stock car. That hans garbage has caused quite a few life changing injuries…. But thats a whole other can of worms. I do agree the seats are cheap but my car came with chopped strand mat seats as an option. It passed safety in the states. So dont say they are going to explode thats total lies. It might rip but if that glass rips your back is ripping too… I have had a few offs and one was in a street/ strip car. No crumple no bags but The seat was bolstered around the head I hat my 5 point on and there was a crash bar in the door. Lady ran the light in a jeep… I walked away and so did the car. Minus a door skin and a snapped tie rod. We had parts. The jeep… Looked like it went through a mine field ladys face was all bruised by her airbag and oh… Gee go figure snapped collar bone. So quit your made up lies… Sure the harness is restrictive and so is the head padding it does limit viability but in an area you shouldn’t need to look much. I know some dead drivers and yeah one was a hans fatality… And yeah I know instances where they saved people. But out of dead friends and foes I know of way more that died in a street car than a race car. Just to add because it infuriates me. That you say that saftey gear isnt good for the street.
