In defense of Jani Lane, getting drugged isnt uncommon in entertainment. When i was living in Nashville years ago i was roofied. It was said that pictures were taken of myself kissing a guy, which have been shown to many to destroy my musical career. The fact that you’re drugged and can’t remember a damn thing is bad enough, but if you are set up into being roofied so that it could be used as blackmail or used to defame your reputation, then i guess you could see such actions as conspiratorial. Shit like this and a whole lot worse happens in the industry. And laws do not apply, they’ve turned a celebrity into a politician anymore. They always strive to set up people for dirt. To use a roofie on someone is punishable with up to 10 yrs in the pen. Odd pictures are being shown to destroy someone’s career, but no one can be held accountable for it. That is just one of many stories of unbelievable shit that has went on. Whoever did this to him is a sick person.

Rest easy Jani. Such a sad story, he was violently assaulted at 19 years old. Poor guy spent nearly the last 30 years of his life pouring everything he could in the hole in his heart, spirit and soul to try and ease the pain, the shame and likely guilt and make that monster die: people he trusted and likely admired and looked up to, turned out to be the things nightmares are made of. 😥

In Rob Halfords book he confesses his fathers friend sexually abused him. And the way he explains it is really weird. “Talking about it now, I can feel the horror and being totally frightened and wanting to run away, but at the same time feeling, ‘Now this is affection, in a very crude brutal manner.’-RH

I saw Warrant in NYC in a club. My favorite show ever. Jani got down from the stage onto the the floor and got a mosh pit going in the Limelight in NYC. I’ll never forget him him hugging every one and singing along to every song with us. Just a really nice guy who loves his fans. I still remember slamming into his shoulder on the dance floor. Ill never forget it.

This story sounds very similar to Bay City Rollers lead singer, Leslie Mckeown. He was raped when he was 19 by his manager and carried this secret with him for years, only revealing it to his family when he got sent to rehab. He was ashamed of what happened to him, so sad because he was not at fault. Les was plagued with a life long drug and alcohol addiction which is how many sexually abused men deal with their pain.

The key bit of information in this I believe is that he remembered how old he was when this occurred..he said he was 19 (guaranteed that’s correct info because it seems like a memory that powerful would come with the recollection of EXACTLY how old he was when this traumatic event took place ) looking back at just which bands he toured with during the time he was 19 should put you in the “ballpark “

Jani was 19 years old. He was born in 1964, so it happened in 1983. I am not accusing, just curious if “Dude looks like a lady” came out in 1987, and “Janie’s Got A Gun” came out in 1989. Who else in the industry would have enough pull to keep him scared decades later? Is it a possible it was Aerosmith? Remember several band members went through rehab in 1984. Again, I’m not accusing, just seeing if anything fits.

Bobbi did a radio interview and or a podcast several years back talking about what happened to him. You can look it up, it’s somewhere online. If I remember correctly she said it happened on the strip so I believe it did not happen in Florida as some people are speculating that it happened in LA. She goes a little bit more into depth about the situation and the reason why she will not name names. She is afraid for her family that if these people’s names are mentioned that they will come back in retaliation. Also, remember he was also married to 2 other woman. The third wife apparently was killed in an auto accident but the second wife is alive and well. Perhaps she knows who these people are as well!

I don’t want to make something into it if it’s not true but,Rob Halford was the first person to come to mind because of a friend who interviewed him. They were in a club and he had with him a ” twink” boy and this guy was very submissive. He wasn’t allowed to do anything from sitting down to having a drink without permission from Rob. He also wasn’t allowed to make eye contact with anyone and Rob had this strange controlling air about him. It made my friend feel very uncomfortable and like there was something more sinister about him than this just being a ” way of life” or a ” preference ” I know this isn’t much,but it’s a 100% legit story. I’ve been in and around the music Industry my entire life and have retained some things that peaked my interest. And I love Judas Priest so I would be highly disappointed if a feeling like this ended up being true. just from knowledge,though,it wouldn’t surprise me. Like I said it’s a feeling and possible direction.

I was able to meet Jani twice, once after a show at a waterpark outside Orlando, the other right after he opened “Jani Lanes Sunset strip ” in Orlando. I had stopped to pick up a tshirt, Jani was still there from the opening…he asked me what i thought of the place, we talked for a good 20-30 minutes about anything…such a down to earth guy, didnt act like a typical rocker douchebag, he sincerely loved the fans. I got ready to leave, he gave me an arm full sunset strip swag, said catch ya later. I didnt get to see him until the “Rock never Stops” tour came about…watching Jani have to sit down center stage with his legs dangling over the stage, slurring the lyrics to “Heaven” was just heartbreaking, you knew he was dealing with alot in life, but didn’t know what….this was way before the internet was easy access and everyones lives was known to all. Jani, your fans loved you deeply,.

I have an old VHS article of Warrant playing an arena during their first US tour sometime in the late 80’s. Halfway through the show Jani and the band do a segment where Jani says they’re going to play the National Anthem or something to that effect and they immediately launch into a few bars of Living After Midnight by Priest. Surely if Rob Halford had assaulted Janie, he wouldn’t be paying such a “tribute” to him. Just sayin…. Great research on this though, you’ve definitely peaked my interest! I did a little time in jail in VA, and so when I hear Rob Halfords name come up, it reminds me of the story my cellmate told me. He supposedly grew up with and still knew Travis Scott. He said the real reason Halford left Priest is because he had been caught on the Operation Rock N Roll tour (his last tour before leaving Priest) with an underage fan backstage. How true it is I don’t know, but on the note of Rob leaving Priest all was said is that it was a “miscommunication .” Irony is he finally came out as gay after leaving Priest. Sorta makes me wonder was he forced to finally out himself as gay or be exposed for what he supposedly did on that tour? Did it take from 1991-2003 before the band finally forgave him and allowed him back?

Corey Haim Janie Lane being SA I can see why they gain a lot of weight to keep the predators at bay. When Lane was on that Vh1 weight loss show and he started losing weight he pathetic and stated eating more and exercising less. It probably triggered him about the abuse. So many stories are coming out about actors Brendan Fraser told about a big producer told him come to his home for s3x or I will stop all the movie roles coming to you. So many young actress actors and musicians are promise that they will help them out get passed around until they become a big star or marry a big star.

Whelp, Jani was born February 1st ’64. Which would make him 19 in ’83 & January of ’84. Warrants first list show is February 15 ’85 before Janu joined the band. So Im thinking this had to happen during the “Plain Jane” years. Jani moved to Florida in ’84 perhaps in response to his traumatic experience.

Because there’s an interview that Bobbie Brown did a few years ago where the interviewer mentions Rob H’s band, J.P., ok? And the way she reacted was very telling. She basically admitted that she didn’t like them for personal reasons, and when he asked why, she said ” I’ll tell you later”. I must say one thing to some of the commenters here, they are trying to figure out who did it by who is gay in the industry, as if only someone homosexual would do this. Rape is about power and control, not sex, and it is just as likely that whoever did sexually assault Jani was not someone who would be considered homosexual, either by themselves or by fans.

Bill Aucoin (KISS manager) was fired by KISS in April of 1982. After that, KISS had no official manager. Gene and Paul pretty much took charge and ran everything themselves (in the 80’s). Jani said this happened to him in Florida when he was 19 years old (in 1983). KISS played Florida in early Feb and late Dec of 1983. I saw Warrant open for Paul’s solo band in 1989. If something that traumatic and horrible happened to Jani (by Paul), I don’t think he would want to go on a monthly tour with him (or be in the same space). By that point, Warrant had their pick of bigger bands (than KISS) to tour with (like RATT, Motley and Poison). But then again, you never know. Interesting article.

Wow, everyone tip-toeing around about this — don’t upset the monster, right? My uncle was a guitar tech for a second tier, but nationally known, band. He was approached one night by a very exhausted band member after a show (not from the band he worked for but from a band who made up the double bill that night) who told him the sad Jani Lane story and identified the two men who attacked the late singer. “Heavy Metal” is a red herring, purposeful or not. The musician involved was a younger guitar wizard with an innovative style and his stage director (NOT a band manager). If I named the musician I’d never hear the end of it. There is, however, a tangential connection to Gene S. but Gene was NOT involved. My uncle said the guy who did it was very conflicted and was rumored to be drinking heavily at this point in his career. He was married but his relationship with his wife was on shaky ground because he’d not been up front with his young celebrity wife about his confusion before they married. Eventually they divorced after his drinking, carousing on tour and “isolation” at home became intolerable. I’m writing this because many here are slandering people who were definitely not involved. My uncle was a straight shooter and was never known to amp up stories from his younger years on the road. Once again, he did not witness this but he felt the musician who told him this sad story was being genuine — talking peer to peer one night late after a show.

Funny, you would bring this up. Years ago, when the Internet was new, I had a strange conversation with someone that told me Paul Stanley was a raging homosexual, a sexual predator, and that he “gang” raped Jani Lane of Warrant, years ago, with another man. I was shocked, because I thought Paul Stanley was a straight red blooded American male, that loved hot women, like myself. I’ve since talked to a lot of other people online, as well as seen Paul Stanley kissing a young man. It’s known in many music circles that Stanley did this, as he has done it before, to many young up, and coming rockers, over, and over. He always threatens to deny, sue, and outright ruin the career of anyone that tries to get him arrested. Keep searching the web. You’ll eventually find people that will talk to you all about it. I used to be a big KISS fan, until I found this out. Now, Stanley just makes me sick. By the way, the original line-up know Paul Stanley is a homosexual, and evidently has been for decades.

My guess would be someone from Motley Crue. With Jani Lane being born in early 1964, that would put him at 19 in most of 1983 and the beginning of 1984, when Motley Crue would have already been big with their first 2 albums. Google “who did warrant tour with in 1984” and Motley Crue is the only band from the list that was active and big then (granted, the list is from their whole career).

The fact that Bobby Brown and Jani have both mentioned Jani’s rape, so we know it’s legit. Why haven’t either one just tell the world who it was??? I get frustrated when ppl tell us 2 thirds of the story and omit the perpetrator. Why protect this asshole?? As Jani said in that old interview, basically that he can’t be hurt any worse, so sue me do what you want to me! Since it was an older rocker, that would make him around mid 70s maybe.

It was well known at the time, back in LA that Columbia Records (the perpetrator’s band was signed to CR) had run damage control due to the incident – Since it was protecting a back catalog that it owned the publishing for, going back almost a decade and a half for that singer’s band. So it had a vested interest in making sure that Jani never said anything about what occurred. As a result, Columbia signed Warrant to a multi-album deal and put them in the studio. Doing so despite the fact that both of Jani’s guitarists were not even good enough (studio guitarist Mike Slammer was brought in and paid to record on the first two albums) – Then Warrant was heavily promoted. articles on MTV, significant tour support and millions of albums sold. – The debt owed was essentially paid at that point. The singer responsible for it had gone to an alcohol treatment place for a month and as a result at this point has not had any alcohol in over 35 years. Whether or not he will ever “Confess” cannot be known. – Jani’s continued alcohol and drug abuse stemmed from the guilt he carried over his success in the music industry since the Columbia Records deal and related label support was a result of that label wanting to keep him quiet about the incident.

I know for absolute fact it was Rob Halford and his road manager, during Judas Priest’s ‘Screaming For Vengeance’ tour, when Janie was playing drums for his band, Plain Jane. I know people who were there on the tour. It’s an open secret to those who know. I hope Halford gets exposed, he’s a predator. Btw another friend was a roadie for Priest during the Painkiller tour, said Halford had lots of underage little goth boys, my friend saw it. Halford and his manager raped Janie Lane.

That’s pretty damned sad. Jani Lane was one of my favorite singers because I could sing in his range (struggled with the high notes a little) and his songs were great. What happened to him was common, unfortunately, but those people need to be brought to justice. I can relate, except I learned, you cannot escape your problem and the truth is, you need to deal with it by finding someone wise. It took me decades, but I got through it without abusing drugs & alcohol. You can’t go under or over it, you can’t go around it, you can only go through it and work through it. We all have our own ignorance and misperceptions, usually based on others ignorance and misperceptions, and clinging to them is exactly what drags you down. Jani Lane had no real reason to feel guilt or shame, because it wasn’t his burden to bear, it was the perpetrators burden to bear. So, why was he afraid of others judging him for what someone else did to him? Because people are ignorant and make victims feel like damaged goods, by giving far too much power to the act that was perpetrated. I mean, that a man, or boy getting raped does not mean anything unless YOU make it mean something. Perhaps Jani Lane believed that he would be blackmailed, exposed, judged and labeled, and ultimately destroyed, but that is the lie he was told. Fearing liars and believing their threatening lies will cause your will and your soul to decay. I have allowed this to rob me for 3 decades. You are NOT who you are according to the ugly things people say about you or do to you.

After a big deep dive into this, If I were a betting man I would have to bet that it was Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Jani Lane moved to the Orlando area in 1983 with his band Dorian Gray. At the same time, Judas Priest was in Orlando at Bee Jay Studios finishing the recording of Screaming For Vengeance. The first half of the album was recorded in Ibiza and then there was a management split and a lot of angst going on on the management front. Big Red Flag. Then it was mixed in Miami at Bayshore Studio where Tom Allom (record producer and sound engineer) was living at the time. I think you can take it from there Mr Dlux …

I absolutely hate how these bands seem to think they are untouchable. I bet it was Paul Stanley! He is so very feminine in his demeanor. I am not saying it was. Well I think I have it figured out. From the comments we can put together that it was most likely someone who was in KISS in the year 1983. Think about it. Eric Carr died of cancer. Sometimes when it is actually AIDS people lie and say that it is something else. Vinnie, Paul, and Gene were down with the ladies to the extreme. But Eric kinda had a gay vibe going on. Watch the Lick it Up article again. Pay attention to Eric. Not really chasing skirt like the rest of them. Maybe when Janie had a gun Eric was either already dead or in the process of dying. Although I would not really call KISS heavy metal. Maybe PG-13 hard rock but not really metal. This also would explain why Janie was not afraid to say it happened but never would say who did it. Hush money. And with Eric dead why bother smearing KISS, especially after a payout like that. Yeah I know, I am probably wrong and it was some lame band nobody ever heard of. And maybe he did actually kill the corny little Melvin who did it. After all, revenge is a dig two graves sort of thing.

Bobbie left out the names for likely the same reason Jani refused to expose this. If this story is true i think the motivations had much less to do with closeted homosexuality as much as this was a way to humiliate someone like him because they harbored both jealousy and believed they were above him. How dare this upstart threaten their throne or approach success without first kissing their rings? They would teach “the newguy” a lesson he wouldn’t forget in some kind of college hazing drug fueled event they thought was funny. Probably assumed Jani would think it was funny as well. But this would also serve as something they could always hold over his head, especially in an enviroment where accusations like this brought more reputation damage to the accuser than more reputational established music icons. They knew he was not entrenched enough to sustain the blowback from any crazy stories about this, they knew he was weak in comparison to them, so they pounced. Probably wasn’t the 1st time they did this. Maybe the others dealt with it better. I could go on but I always got the feeling Jani was never truly one of them. I think he was a more traditional type of good guy unable to find a firm footing among a crowd of musicians that albeit nice, also had a predatory side. Jani never had that cut throught trait, and likely assumed everybody else were more or less the same. This often would find him in the group but feeling and noticed as on the outside of it. I can relate. I’ve always been a metal head, even seen Warrant in Leesburg FL at water mania.

Looking back at the charts of 1983, and trying to figure out who this could be, as Jani said it was a huge rockstar at the time. Which, looking at those charts… The only two people that I know were essentially openly gay in 1983 were Rob, Elton John, Freddie Mercury and Boy George. Now, we can look at who might be Bi or closeted or somebody with a huge ego, who loves to press his power upon people. Maybe a certain bass player/singer from a band who made a lot of money off of merchandising. It sucks, because I got to spend a bit of time on Enuff Z’Nuff’s tour bus when they were touring with poison/warrant/Quiet Riot. That would’ve been 1998 or 1999, possibly early 2000. Jani was on the heavy side when I saw him. So much so that I was sitting beside him on Chip’s tour bus and didn’t know it. It took Chip telling me that it was him. Regardless, those fleeting moments where you feel like the whole world is ahead of you and you’re not thinking about what’s going on with the people around you. Especially those you don’t know. Wishing you had hindsight to somehow try to help them get through their pain. Not that I imagine a talk from a stranger, or even one of his friends would have helped. Obviously, girlfriends and wives of his knew about it. If they couldn’t talk him through it, I wonder if a few people could. If any at all. A hugely talented guy, who was a great songwriter, and obviously deserved so much more than this. At least he got to experience his dream when he was here. Unfortunately, the road to that dream is what turned into a nightmare for him.

Always felt bad for that dude, ever since I seen him on one of those old vh1 shows about one hit wonders. Lemmy was on the same show talking about ace of spades saying atleast his one hit wonder was badass and he enjoyed playing it all the time. Janie on the other hand was depressed talking about having to constantly play cherry pie. In hindsight vh1 sucks for even putting motorhead on a show about one hit wonders because thats just blasphemy. Warrants older shit is sick though, it reminded me of overkill or something.

Jani doesn’t need to be judged by this website or anyone else. First and foremost. I just started this article and won’t watch any future. He did have bad additions as a result of this matter and Bobby couldn’t get get enough attention no matter how pregnant she was. PTSD is no joke and a faithful/loyal person is needed in your life to help. Bobby didn’t know the meaning of the word faithful. Bobby would be passed out and she would be getting it on 10 feet away. This article is a joke. Halford did it . She pretty much admitted it. She named after the interview. She didn’t want it recorded. Her book probably says a lot too. She gives dates and times placing oth parties in the same place. This was in the early 80s. Halford and his manager……dirt bags. There’s much more details.

Great article thanks for sharing. I have a Eastwood story. I was working on a student film as an actor at UCLA. We were rehearsing a poker game for a film, a Western. All of a sudden the actor across from me had a stunned look on his face. Standing beside me was Clint Eastwood. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. This was during his Dirty Harry days. Sandra and his daughters were standing by the doorway. He was there checking out the Directors Class. A moment in time I will never forget. Unfortunately we didn’t have cell phones with a camera then. All I have is a fond memory 😁
