I was an EMT for 12 years and worked 5 years in an emergency room doing it. We had one man come in with an injury to his finger from his wedding ring. He was putting something on the top of his SUV, when he got off his ring got stuck on the roof rack and peeled his finger like a banana. I remember just seeing blood and bone with the skin hanging off. We amputated his finger and he went home.
Unless you had seriously injured your finger and it was swelling up, would this be a problem. It’s not that hard to get a ring off the finger. Just raise your hand above your head for 2 minutes. Blood and fluids will drain out of your hand and fingers, then it should be much easier to remove the ring.
Next step after soap should be the string trick. We would use the string trick first ( if there was no crashing injury or if it was too swollen. If the string trick didn’t work after 3 or 4 times, then we’d get out the ring cutter.
