Can Jehovah Witnesses Accept Christmas Gifts?

Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate any religious holidays except for the death of Jesus, and accepting a Christmas gift can be a sensitive issue. However, there is no official rule prohibiting Jehovahs from accepting gifts, regardless of whether some employees, such as Jews or Moslems, do not believe in Christmas. The mere timing of the gift or the name used for it does not necessarily rule out its acceptance by one of Jehovahs Witnesses.

Jehovah’s Witnesses do appreciate and accept gifts at other times of the year, such as during the holiday season or as a token of appreciation. It is always best to ask the individual Jehovah’s Witness to know their beliefs. The Bible counsels those in positions of responsibility to beware of accepting gifts, as they must not pervert judgment or accept a bribe.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are permitted to accept gifts without any specific restrictions on particular dates or times of the year. However, the mere timing of the gift or the name that has come to be used for it does not necessarily rule out its acceptance by one of Jehovahs Witnesses.

Gift-giving can make both the giver and receiver happy, and Jesus said we should “practice giving.” However, people may be stupid and thoughtless, as JWs do not celebrate Christmas and birthdays because the provenance of those celebrations is not mentioned.

Can you send flowers to a Jehovah Witness?

The Jehovah’s Witnesses funeral service is similar to other Christian funerals, but shorter. The funeral is usually held within a week of the death. At the service, men wear suits and ties, and women dress modestly. Neither needs a head covering. Flowers and food may be offered to the family before, during, or after the service. Services usually take place at the Kingdom Hall. The casket may or may not be open. The Congregation Elder leads the service and gives a talk, which can be recorded. The talk will highlight the deceased person’s life, their ministry, their last thoughts and expressions, and their hope because of their faith in God and Jesus. The talk explains what the Bible says about death and the hope of a resurrection. It’s not a sad event. Family and friends can be reassured that the Bible says the dead will be raised and they will see their loved one again. Jehovah’s Witnesses can choose to have a burial or cremation after the funeral in the Kingdom Hall. At the graveside or crematorium chapel, the Bible is read and a prayer is said.

The Memorial is held after sunset, which was the start of the Jewish day, on the first full moon after the spring equinox. What do Jehovah Witnesses call Jesus?

Jesus Christ. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus is God’s only son and that he was created in heaven. They believe that Jesus is God’s first creation and the exact representation of God, but not part of a Trinity. Jesus was used by God to create everything. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the Archangel Michael, the Word of John 1:1, and wisdom personified in Proverbs 8 refer to Jesus in his pre-human existence. They also believe that he resumed these identities after his ascension to heaven following his death and resurrection. They also say he is the rider of the white horse in Revelation 6 and 19. He was born on earth when God sent him to earth in the form of a baby. Jesus was killed to atone for humanity’s sins and became the father of humanity. After Jesus died, he appeared to his disciples and convinced them of his resurrection. He then ascended to heaven to sit at God’s right hand until he became the king of God’s kingdom. Jesus acts as the mediator of a new covenant. This is mentioned in Jeremiah 31:31, Luke 22:20, and Hebrews 9:15; 12:24. Jesus acts as the mediator between God and the 144,000. Those with earthly hope are said to be beneficiaries of the covenant. Even as king of God’s kingdom, Jesus is subordinate to God. Witnesses reject the doctrine of the perpetual virginity of Mary, who they believe bore more children after Jesus. The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society used the Cross and Crown symbol on tombstones and in its publications until 1931.Since 1936, Jehovah’s Witnesses have taught that Jesus died on a wooden stake, not a cross. They say the Greek word for “stake” (σταυρός) means a single upright post. They believe the cross is a pagan symbol of idol worship. Some Jehovah’s Witnesses have been killed for not venerating a cross.

What do Jehovah Witnesses say who Jesus is?

Religious beliefs and practices. Jehovah’s Witnesses are Christians, but they believe differently. They believe Jesus is the son of God, but not part of a Trinity. Jehovah’s Witnesses are one of the most religious groups in the U.S. Nearly all Jehovah’s Witnesses (90%) say religion is very important in their lives. Most also believe in God with absolute certainty (90%) and that the Bible is the word of God (94%). Our survey found two other interesting ways Jehovah’s Witnesses stand out in their beliefs. Most Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in heaven, but few believe in hell. This is different from what the Bible says. Most U.S. Christians believe in hell (70%). Most Jehovah’s Witnesses (83%) believe their religion is the one true faith leading to eternal life. Only about three-in-ten U.S. Christians (29%) believe this about their own religion.

Is it OK to give a Jehovah Witness a Christmas card?

Verify the recipient’s religion before sending a religious card. You don’t want to send the wrong card to a religious person. Many people will appreciate the correct religious card more than a generic “Seasons Greetings.” Muslims celebrate two feast holidays during November and December. Eid ul Fitr is the end of Ramadan and Eid ul Adha is the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. Both holidays are greeted with “Eid Mubarak,” which means “May the Lord make it a blessed feast.” Hindus celebrate Diwali during the winter. This holiday usually falls in October or November. At this time, greeting cards and small gifts are appropriate. Other winter holidays include Yule, a winter solstice celebration for pagan religions (which usually falls on December 21), and Kwanzaa, a holiday celebrated by many African-Americans from December 26 to January 1. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate any holidays, so generic cards are appropriate. If you’re sending a holiday card to a business, stick with generic “Happy Holidays” and “Seasons Greetings” type cards. Avoid sending group cards for religious holidays like Easter unless you’re sending them to a religious organization. For other major holidays, send general seasonal cards instead of holiday cards. Cards for national holidays are appropriate for all citizens. If you do business internationally, research the major holidays in the countries you do business with. Your international associates may take holidays, so you can save time contacting them. Sending appropriate greetings will set you apart from many of their other international business contacts.

Birthdays and special occasions. Aside from the age question, birthdays and other personal occasions are good for sending greetings and congratulations. Many businesses don’t take advantage of this. However, it can be tricky to send congratulations to people you don’t know well. Jehovah’s Witnesses and devout Muslims do not celebrate birthdays. It’s best to send general birthday greetings that don’t mention the recipient’s age. Have a staff member check the newspaper for opportunities to congratulate business associates or major clients. If you don’t get an invitation, you don’t have to send a greeting. If there’s no public notice in the newspaper, send congratulations only to people you know. Some people may be offended if a stranger or formal acquaintance is interested in their personal life.

What do Jehovah Witnesses not accept?

Jehovah’s Witnesses try to stay separate from the world, which they see as a place of moral problems and under Satan’s control. Witnesses don’t take part in politics or the military and are told to avoid non-Witnesses. The denomination has a strict moral code that forbids premarital sex, homosexuality, gender transitioning, adultery, smoking, drunkenness and drug abuse, and blood transfusions.

A system of committees enforces discipline in congregations. They can expel members who break rules and ask other Witnesses to shun them. The threat of shunning also stops members from acting against the group.

Members must do evangelizing work and attend meetings and conventions where they learn from Watch Tower Society publications.

  • Jay, I’ve been following you since before you had 200 subs and after all this time I’m still always happy to see your articles released. This article hit home with me. I’ve felt the most victimized by the WHORganization for making me feel terrible, because I had a hobby that loved and could’ve turned eventually into a career. Now after 3 decades, the opportunities I had as a young man have passed and I’m out of the mORGue with nothing to show for all that “self-sacrificing.” I don’t want anyone else to squander their gifts on a real estate cult – I feel like your articles are helping get people to wake up before it’s too late.

  • Yes we should use our gifts to the best of our ability. Sometimes we fail, and that’s when we pick ourselves up and try again. Or find something new to try or learn; but you won’t know if you don’t Try! Good comparison to being a toddler and learning how to be an active living human being. Nowhere in the book does it ever say to give that right to learn to another party, but to test what is right or wrong just like the Boreaens did.

  • Being a JW is akin to being a brain donor! 😆 #EternalFacts WT / GB have Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers, and they all had to go to the same “worldly” colleges to get their degree as anyone else!.. It’s ok when someone gets a higher education just to serve WT / GB but when someone wants to get their education and take care of themselves and their family that’s a problem! The hypocrisy is outstanding! 😠 Thanks as always for your insightful articles! 😎

  • In high school my best friend in the kingdom hall had 20 scholarships to go to college to play baseball … he was awesome I know he would’ve been in the major leagues!!He said I’m not gonna go because I want to please my mother and the kingdom hall👀👀👀I was like dude your fucking stupid !!!!!! Then he eventually got disfellowshipped a couple years later anyhow!!🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

  • I don’t think I’m better than most people, but I did have a passion for art, mostly drawing, and gaming. Since I was in I never had the idea or the drive to pursue any of those 2 things. Thankfully since being out, I have been working on getting there, and I’m hoping I can achieve in being a talented game developer and enjoy my passion….

  • Jay I agree with you I also saw this within the congregation children being deprived of so much opportunity and the potential to do great things no sports, or any other recreational actives out there you are taking time away from Jehovah Wednesday, Friday nights were meetings how dare you be at a dance recital on a Wednesday night when you are suppose to be at the KH with the rest of the congregation how dare you be on a soccer field on a Saturday morning when you are suppose to be out in service serving Jehovah constantly being told Jehovah comes first . parents were told they were raising their children to be spiritually weak if they didn’t attend all the meetings or go out in service. It was pathetic studied with this one woman who had three children never saw them with any friends from school, never saw them with any kids from the neighborhood they never got invited to any parties, quite frankly I felt sorry for them. They were good kids I felt they deserved a lot better after I got baptized about 6 months in I realized it wasn’t for me any more. If I decided to have children I wanted a lot better for them and give them all that I could if my son or daughter wanted to play soccer I’d let them play even if I missed going out in service on a Saturday.

  • I consider this blasphemy. God gives you a gift and you throw it in the trash because of someone else’s ignorant opinion . Blasphemy is an insult to God and I think doing that is an insult to God . I had to fight my family over my gifts and that was the reason I disobeyed my parents when I was about 12because I realized who gave me my talents . Honoring parents is not the same as agreeing with every stupid idea they come up with.

  • All’s I know is it’s a freedom of choice Bible principle but also that if they choose not to do that then people should respect them at people want to celebrate their holidays then they should be respected as well that’s what’s wrong with this world if you don’t do what other people are doing in the majority you’re nothing God gives us that freedom of choice so it’s in his word
