The scholarly consensus that it is permissible to get married in the month of Muharram or the day after Eid-Ul-Adha is a consensus of silence. There is no restriction in the Qur’ān, sunnah (prophetic) or any other day in Muḥarram for holding wedding ceremonies or any other parties on this day or in the month of Muharram as such. All days belong to Allah and Muslims should not take any superstitions from any.
Marriage in the month of Muharram is not a sign of disrespect to Imam Husayn (Allah have mercy on him) nor the Prophetic household. Islam urges its followers to marry as soon as possible as long as they are financially and physically able. Marriage in Islam is both a religious ordinance and a social custom.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) advised us not to curse any act, marriage, journey, etc. in some months, Muharram, Safar, etc., was a custom of the pre-Islamic era based on suspicion. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) condemned that by saying, ‘Laa. Safara’ (There is no evil in the month of Safar).
Marriage is highly mustahab and gathering and seeing family is also highly mustahab. There is nothing to prove that weddings are forbidden in Muharram. While some may use the martyrdom of Hussain as a reason, the decision is fully under your discretion.
In conclusion, it is permissible to get married in the month of Muharram or the day after Eid-Ul-Adha, as long as one is financially and physically able. Marriage in Islam is both a religious ordinance and a social custom, and there is no evidence in the Shariah that prohibits marriage in these months.

What happens if you get married in the month of Muharram?
It’s a myth to say that marriage is forbidden in Safar or Muharram. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said not to curse because Allah created time. If we curse time, we curse Him. There’s no basis for the rumor that Safar and Muharram bring bad luck. Aishah said that marrying in Safar would not bring bad luck because the Prophet (PBUH) married her in that month. She was the luckiest woman to marry the Messenger of Allah.

Which prophet got married in Muharram?
Imam al-Husayn arranges for Qasim, his nephew, to marry one of his daughters. I first read this in Kashifis. Rawdhat ush-Shuhada is a book from about 500 years ago. I can’t find it in other books before this one. There may be more information in later books. The book says that Qasim gets married on the 10th of Muharram. Who does he marry? One of Imam al-Husayn’s daughters.
Now, if we look at the daughters of Imam al-Husayn, we have: Fatimat al-Kubra, Fatimat al-Sughra, Sakina, and Ruqayyah. We have four daughters of Imam al-Husayn. Fatimat ul-Kubra married her cousin Hasan Al-Muthannah, one of the survivors of the 10th of Muharram. Then there’s Fatimat us-Sughra, who was in Medina. Then there’s Bibi Sakina or Bibi Sukaina. Another name for her was Amina because Imam al-Husayn loved his grandmother, Amina Bint Wahab. Another name for Bibi Sakinah or Bibi Sukaina is Amina. But she never married. The other was Bibi Ruqayya, who was only four.
Who married whom? These options seem to contradict each other. It’s possible that Imam al-Husayn, alayhi as-salam, may have gone to a separate tent and married Qasim without consummating the marriage. It could be there, but it may not be. It shouldn’t cause arguments within our communities.
