As a manicurist myself I would say, please schedule your removal/repainting in time. Girl, you are not looking cute or elegant after 3 weeks growth, even if your nail polish is intact. Nails grow. If you don’t have time or money to expend in nails, make sure at least you take care of your nails at home. Some cuticule triming, hand cream, oils, can do wonders. Also, keep your nails healthy by having good eating habits, dont chip off your nail polish yourself, its going to damage your nails.

Yes. I used to work at a five diamond resort. Basically a hotel for the wealthy only. And Anna is right. Our nails had to be kept short, or just over the edge and manicured. Natural or nude colors. Same went for makeup. We could not be overdone. No crazy lashes. Hair color too, no purples, blues or fad haircuts. It basically stuck with me since!!! 😂
My dermatologist thought me not to push the cuticles back. See it as the kit seal around your tub. It protects the nail from water. I also don’t use polish anymore, only a good cream every night. I have risolved my nail issues with acrylic nails and never want to go back again. I finally found someone who really does a great job without ruining or damaging my nails. I go there every 4 weeks with red and every 5 weeks with a natural color. I can do anything – washing dishes, doing gardening, playing with animals, even moving- and my nails stay on without chipping maintaining their shiny color. It’s amazing. It takes 2 hours but it’s much easier to find 2 hours of time every 5 weeks that to do them myself every 3 days at home. I am SO happy that I don’t have to think about my nails anymore 😄
While I agree with what you said, I have pretty much exclusively worn blue nail polish for the last 3 years. I always have very short nails because I enjoy playing piano and guitar, but my favourite colour is a matte slate blue-grey. I think it looks so chic, especially in winter when I’m wearing a lot of light blues and greys 🤷♀️ I keep the fun, sparkly colours on my toes, my silly little secret (shhh, don’t tell Ana!)

I love my long almond natural nails as they are not easy to attain and maintain. I clean them often during the day with special brushes and do not allow chipping as I do them at home. This is an advise may not be totally for me, when I wear them in nude my fingers look so long that I love them 😍 Thank you for your article Anna.
its a little sad that so many women here are immediately jumping to the comments of a stranger on approval of what and what not to wear, and judging other women for doing exactly the opposite of what she says. wear whatever you want, either nude french tips or holographic sparkly nail art. none of us gain anything from judging something as frivolous as peoples nails.
I like how she said other nail styles won’t fit into the elegant category. She even said some were cute but are not classified as elegant. I think some of the nail styles she showed that are not necessarily tacky would be considered more boujee BUTTT boujee doesn’t always translate to elegant or classy. I also think some of the colors and styles that are not classy could be pulled off as classy depending on the overall look of the person. I’m actually in the transition with my clothes less boujee looking and more classy looking.

I have started doing my own manicures at home, I work in a restaurant so no false nails or polish at all. Also, because of that I dont see the point in paying for them to be done at a salon. But I am fed up with having the state of my nails no matter how much I wash or scrub, they break and chip, uneven and overall looking unkempt. I will say that less looks best for me, I just file them to shape, shorten and tidy and maybe a clear coat and honestly even my co workers have said they look great. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this!! Acrylic nails are so tacky. They’re actually also very unhygienic. Mold developes inbetween your actual nail and the acrylic. Dirt has a tendency to gathers underneath them. I feel queasy whenever I see them especially around food. Also, loud obnoxious colors are cheap and offensive looking. Very long nails tend to send the wrong impression. Essie nail polish is also a great classic and in all the shades Anna mentioned. My personal favorite go to shade being, Ballet Slippers.
I’m crazy about my nails and I have always cared about their look. I personally like them a bit long but they are natural and I’m constantly taking care of them to look clean and nice. I also don’t like the super long nails trend because it’s not practical for daily life. About colors and nail art, I think all the trends now just look nice in kids and/or for fun, costume parties, whatever. To express responsibility, elegance and charm I definitely agree with traditional colors and French manicure. In order to make it into my purse, an item must have a stylistic use as well as an emergency survival use. For example, I keep nail polish in my purse because it’s good for patching up chipped nails on the go, and it’s also a good fire starter and can be used as ink. Bobby pins and floss are great for grooming, and can also be used to make fishhooks. And of course, a blade and a metal loaf tin. The loaf tin helps my structured bag keep its shape, but it’s also important for purifying water in the field. It’s very hard to improvise metal containers. Other items include hand sanitizer, a hat and gloves. Hypothermia kills you first in the wilderness, followed by thirst and lack of hygiene. I love almond shaped nails, I have nail extentions with acrylic at the moment. not too short but giving a subtle length and femininity to my hands. Usually red or nude or similar. I like them since my own nails tend to break. Trying to take care of my hands and nails and grow them so I could wear only gel coat on my natural nails. Many girls do their nails at home and do not clean the cuticle, polish them, etc properly before applying the polish. Surprisingly, my male friends often mention how much of a turn off is it when they see a manicure or pediquire that has obviously not been properly groomed, even if the color is not chipped and the length is elegant. I had to chuckle a little bit. You can wear red, burgundy and plum but dont wear any color that looks artificial. The only times my fingernails have been naturally plum was when I accidently slammed them in the car door. But I understand what Anna means. I do wear red or a deep red when I want to really dress up for a special occasion. Most of the time I leave then natural and buff them. I cant bear them long. Just a little beyond the tips of my fingers is perfect.
I know doctors do not recommend nail polish to pregnant ladies, so some of my friends used to scrub lemon slices on their nails to keep them healthy and rosy. Works great for me, too, although I am not pregnant. The lemons are store bought as lemons only grow in greenhouses in my country and we are in a cold winter now. I just thought to share.
Totally agree Anna, I actually think no nail polish looks nice and then file your nails neatly, trying to keep them all the same length. If I was going to use nail varnish then like you say, it would be clear, nude or French manicure 💅. Jewels, multi colours and nails too pointed I would not choose.
