Can You Wear Your Wedding Ring In The Pool?

Wearing your engagement ring in a chlorinated pool can expose it to various risks, including chemical exposure, shrinking finger size, and discoloration. To safeguard the beauty and integrity of your ring, it is advisable to remove it before entering the pool or soaking in a hot water source.

Swimming is not recommended for expensive jewelry, as cold water shrinks fingers and makes it easier for loose rings to slip off. Palladium and Platinum are durable and non-corrosive metals commonly used for crafting wedding rings and bands. Silicone rings are a new option available for wearing while swimming, but they may not be water-resistant due to reactions to chemicals in the pool.

Diamonds perform poorly when exposed to salt, and many valuable metals also react poorly when exposed to salt. Therefore, it is not recommended to wear diamond jewelry in the pool. If you forgot to take off your tungsten ring before taking a shower, you can air dry it right after.

Silicone rings are soft, stretchy, and flexible, making them ideal for wearing in and around the water. They can fit tightly around your finger and won’t slip off when you swim or get your hands wet. However, if you accidentally wear your ring into a pool, rinse it well under warm tap water and dry it with a soft towel or paper towel.

Gold jewelry, especially engagement and other rings that have been restored, is very susceptible to chlorine damage. Chlorine can permanently compromise a setting of enough alloying metals, and swimming when wearing your solitaire engagement ring can cause numerous issues. In conclusion, it is best to avoid wearing your engagement ring in a chlorinated pool to ensure its safety and longevity.

Richard Wubnig, director of sales at Gerald Peters, says sleeping with your engagement ring on is a bad idea. An engagement ring is a fine piece of jewelry, and it should be treated as such. Your ring can get caught in your hair or sheets while you sleep, which can cause the stone to loosen in the setting. Wubnig says to have one safe place in your house where you always take your ring off and store it to prevent losing it. This way, your ring will always be in one place. That’s fair. Torsten Flaegel, owner of Yaf Sparkle, an independent jewelry boutique in New York City, offers another view. He says the best thing about wearing your ring while you sleep is that you can’t lose it. New settings are different. I see no downside. An engagement ring and wedding band are meant to be worn all the time. He says it’s bad luck to take it off often. Flaegel says there are two cases where wearing your engagement ring all the time could be bad: if you choose a stone other than white diamonds or other precious stones, or if your stone is not very hard. Opals are fragile, so it might make the wearer feel more comfortable to put it away at night. If your ring is too tight and you get swollen fingers overnight, that’s another reason to take it off.

Can chlorine ruin a diamond?

Pool time dangers. Chlorine doesn’t harm diamonds, but it can harm some semi-precious stones. Long-term exposure to the chemical may cause them to fade or break down. Chlorine can also make your ring’s metal band discolored. This is especially true of white gold. White gold is plated with white rhodium to make it white. The plating can wear away, showing the gold’s natural yellow color. Chlorine can help speed up the process.

Garden pests. Gardening can ruin your ring. Diamonds are the hardest gemstone, but they can still break. If you hit them hard enough, they will crack or scratch.

  • Well… Fake or not, it should give men a great idea of how to react if they found themselves in this situation. Personally, as the groom, I would have jumped in the pool and asked the priest to continue the ceremony right there. As the adage go, “when life gives you lemon, make lemonade”. What’s the point in getting worked up, it won’t undo what happened. Deal with it afterwards.

  • Honestly, I just went to the website and saw the next clip. My honest knee-jerk reflex if I were the groom would have been to jump in with her and finish the vows. And say, “Honey, wherever you go, I’ll be prepared to go with you.” …after I laughed hysterically for about 3 minutes. The article shows a REALLY sad portrayal of the way family treated family/friends over an accident. Any bride who can’t laugh about an unexpected swim isn’t prepared for REAL problems.

  • First 20 seconds the best man is only perusal at the girl in the yellow dress. It doesn’t matter that there is a marriage and he’s the rings. Only the girl counts =) Maybe he likes her dress or something else 🙂 I bet they weren’t a couple at this time and nothing hase changed until now 🙂 I’m sorry for the best man … but more sorry for the preacher. Think that place for wedding wasn’t his idea =)

  • Oh, it was NOT ruined if you have a good sense of humor. Life is like that, ups and downs. What makes a marriage last is when at the very wrong time thing like this happens, you make the best of them. I learned to laugh at moments like this one, YES, it is a wedding, but nothing was going to change the fact that they fell down. The outcome, though, THAT, must definitely, CAN be changed. I am truly sorry this happened to all of them. I can only imagine that her plans were not those, and she wanted it to be as perfect as she had imagined it. I wished her fiance would have jumped in the pool and finished their wedding in there. Blessing to all of them and to the best man…….. I am also sorry this happened to you, I know you felt so horrible and truly stressed to the point of qanting Earth to swallow you. I am so very sorry!!!!

  • I only bring this up because it looks like the groom and the best man might have been wearing the same type of rental dress shoes. Rental wedding shoes can get quite uncomfortable because they’re less durable, and made with less padding. By the time of the ceremony, in many cases, it literally feels like you’re walking around on top of cardboard! It CAN be easy to trip an fall. But, this is pretty unforgivable here unfortunately. The bride is in the water!

  • Looool I watched it in SLOW MOTION, and the best man after falling over and already laying on the ground, ACTUALLY PUSHES THE BRIDE IN THE POOL ON PURPOSE! And the vicar goes in too, when he tried to prevent the Bride from being pushed in! You gotta watch it in slow motion, otherwise if you watch it at normal speed, it just looks like an “accident” 😝

  • What many people fail to realize. Is John the Baptist made a come back as the best man the better man. The girls all started saying Jesus Jesus! They were praising Jesus! Mathew 3: 11 / Luke 3:16 the best man who is John the Baptist says ” I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but my shoe is coming mightier than I when it slips that will baptize thee greater than I. I’m still in shock John the Baptist decides to show up at a wedding all dressed up. Good ol J.R would be perfect on commentary. GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY THEY ARE BROKEN IN HALF!! Good god almighty they’re done they are are done will somebody stop this!!!

  • I’m not sure if this is fake or not (it seems fake to me) but for those not understanding how she “fell in”, the ring bearer grabbed her ankle like he was a wrestler going for an ankle pick takedown, have someone grab your ankle, then try to hop backwards, you will fall on your butt, this is a basic Jiujitsu takedown, another reason it looks setup to me.

  • YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE SAVED THIS?! (Sorry for shouting). The groom jumps in straight afterwards as a show of how much he loves her, and they finish their whole ring exchange in the pool! Because the vicar went in too anyway! That would have saved it, unless she’s a real basic drama queen. Honestly, if this had happened to me, I’d have the initial shock, sure, but then I’d insist the groom and the best man jump in, we’d exchange rings then have a massive splash fight!! XD
