Are vows supposed to be a surprise?
Couples often surprise each other with their wedding vows. It’s good to agree on the theme, tone, and delivery. Need convincing? Try a quick YouTube search for “horrible wedding vows.” Imagine how awkward it would be if your fiancé goes first with heartfelt vows and you have to follow with inside jokes and teasing jabs! Even if you trust your partner, it’s good to discuss logistics.
Should you include embarrassing stories? How serious should the tone be? How long should each of you speak? What should the general timeline of your love story and engagement be?
Bonus tip: planning your vows gives you an excuse to book a romantic date together! Ask questions, learn more about each other, and enjoy your engagement. Writing your vows doesn’t have to be scary.
Can a woman give a bride away?
They can’t and don’t. In the old days, women were considered property and the father’s responsibility was transferred to the husband. Today, anyone can give the bride away. Sometimes they walk down the aisle alone!
Can you read each other’s vows before a wedding?
You might not have thought about sharing your vows privately before the wedding. After all, the vows are the main event. Reverend Laura C. Cannon, a professional officiant who has overseen over 1,000 weddings in the last 15 years, often suggests that couples exchange their vows with each other before or instead of reciting them in front of their guests. She says she always encourages couples to do this for several reasons. First, it lets couples keep their own personal vows just between them. If they share a religious ceremony with guests, it adds a personal touch by incorporating custom vows without breaking tradition. But for Cannon, the most important reason is simple: Both parties need to understand what they’re agreeing to! Your marriage vows are the reason you’re getting married. They’re the promises you make to each other that make your marriage commitment official. If you don’t discuss them, one of you might leave something out that’s important to the other. If you write your own vows, don’t wait until after the rehearsal dinner. Cannon says couples should make their vows reflect their commitment. Why are you getting married? That’s the most important thing to agree on.
What are the vows for the wedding ceremony?
We are gathered here today to join Name and Name in holy matrimony. I promise to love you always, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, and to be true to you until death. The wedding ceremony is the main event. The wedding ceremony is when a couple becomes married. Many couples leave wedding ceremony planning to the last minute, according to Tanya Pushkine. “The wedding ceremony is often overlooked,” says Pushkine. “It’s an afterthought.” Tanya Pushkine is a wedding coach, planner, and officiant in New York City. She’s known as the “vow whisperer” for her ability to craft unique ceremonies. Pushkine says couples should start thinking about the ceremony early in the wedding planning process so they know what to ask for when they meet with their wedding planner or day-of coordinator. Religious ceremonies are more fixed, while secular ceremonies are more flexible.
Are you still a bride after you get married?

The word “bride” comes from the Old English word “bryd,” which is also used in other Germanic languages. In Western countries, brides wear white wedding dresses. This tradition started with Queen Victoria. White dresses were once seen as a symbol of luxury because they were hard to clean. Today, Western brides may wear white, cream, or ivory dresses.
Who puts the ring on first in a wedding?
In a traditional wedding ceremony, the vows are followed by the ring exchange. The groom usually goes first, but you can do it any way you want. He puts the ring on her finger and says, “I give this ring as a sign of my love.” Then it’s the bride’s turn. Then the officiant says, “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” Then comes the first kiss and your reception. Do I need to write my own ring exchange wording?
Do you take a bride to be your wife?
The notary asks the man if he will take the woman to be his wife. He asks him to love her, honor her, comfort her, and keep her in sickness and in health. He asks him to forsake all others for as long as they both shall live. The man says, “I do.”

This Bride Read Her Cheating Fiancé’s Texts at the Altar Instead of Her Vows An Australian bride became an instant legend on …
I can’t imagine how much it took for her to do this…..even though it was the right thing to do. Even though I don’t know her, she is a heroine in my eyes. What a classy lady, and I hope that she finds someone who will love and cherish her – she is one of a kind, and I hope she has a long and very happy life ahead of her. You are a shining example of a woman……don’t ever let anyone dull that shine, girl! 💖💖💖
That’s a classy wrapup. My first beating was our wedding morning. I was too shocked to act. Needless to say, others followed. Had I not been in shock, I should have made a few phone calls and turned it into a family reunion. I just kept thinking about all those people in travel, and all the food that was prepared and didn’t even think I had a third option. Nice catch.
I should have done this when my now ex husband screamed at me during our reception, but I didn’t. Our marriage lasted almost 10 years. During this time I learned what a narcissist from hell was all about. I left him and he filed for the divorce. He even lied on the paper work stating that all the marital assets were already divided! I could NOT get a day of work to find an attorney to help me. He took everything and left me with my car, I had just paid off, some of my clothes and a few of my things. How can you tell somebody “I love you” and then treat them like a piece of dirt?!
I am so very proud of you Casey! Emotional abuse is just as bad as physical, but when you learn to forgive yourself and the betrayer, you will find peace. As with death, not just physical death, comes renewal. Never be an option and don’t close yourself off completely! Clearly, the wedding party and the guests were very supportive of you. I am happily single 5 years now. It would be nice to find a good hearted man with core values, but I am now finally inlove with myself and happiest I have been in a long long time~!!! Grieve but also learn to live!!! XXX
I applaud Casey 👏 👏👏👏👏 Why punish oneself after finding out after the fact….unfortunately I was in a 4 year relationship with a cheater….AND I WANTED TO STAY….After grieving the failed “life-long” relationship with someone who called me his husband for 2 years…I now recognize the freedom I have been blessed with….That was 20 years ago….AND I AM HEALED. AND no longer gullible. Bravo young lady.
I married my cheating ex. After my son was born he decided to leave to “sow his wild oats”. He had many affairs he wanted to come back. At first said no but after struggling for months I said yes. Things seemed to be fine and we had a second son and were very close to a neighboring couple who had a son the same age. Sadly their son died and I found out that the wife thought God had taken her son away because the the affair she had been having with my husband…A lot of lives were destroyed that day
My husband used to work at a country club and at the reception the groomsmen passed out Manila envelopes to each table and the groom was at the microphone he told everyone to open the envelope where they saw pictures of the bride with a man kissing . He had hired a private investigator and let her family go through with the whole wedding $ . My husband said people were crying and screaming he jumped in a limo and left her there with all the guests and her parents
I have heard this story many times from other women who have experienced the same thing. The worst betrayal is when the one you love is having an affair with your best friend. It is unthinkable that someone who knows you well will do something to hurt you but when it’s two people you trust the pain is unimaginable. Not many women get the chance to end it before the wedding vows are spoken.
Well done Casey! You are a fighter and you took this awful situation into an amazing revenge by revealing the truth out loud to him and your guests, taking him down…and to go on with the wedding, celebrating honesty…More power to you! You handled this situation like a classy warrior! I am so proud of you! ♥
So very sorry for your pain and for your time with that cheating Bastard!!!! I know you will find your true soulmate who is really deserving of you!!!! There’s a better life in store for you!!!! I truly believe that!!!!! YOU DESERVE IT ALL AND MORE!!!, PLUS HAPPINESS AND HONESTY AND TO BE THE WHOLE WORLD TO YOUR MATE!!!!! GOOD LUCK 😻💛🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Way to go! I’m so sorry that you had to go through this, but your initial instinct was right on! Thanks to another woman for warning you about ‘the cat whose spots will not change’, you avoided a painful future with a lying, cheating, unfaithful S-O-B. You will find your ‘knight in shining armour’. Be strong!!!!
I listened to this story and it made me cry .not for him but for her .i am so proud of the guts and courage and strength she showed after reading such alful messages .i word like to say too her you are a strong and beautiful person and six years may seem like a long time but its better to find out before Many many or marriage years pasted and then you would find out .i sent 27 years with my husband before i found out he was cheating on me .i felt like a fool and i also felt that he took 27 years of my life away what pain i felt and still feel . but i am so happy that you found out sooner may god bless you and help you threw take care always
There must be no doubt in your mind or heart, before you vow to care for each other and grow old together!! If in doubt, leave it out … you’re not ready! It’s true. I’m old so I know this. Thanks for uploading these incredible stories, even if you do dramatise, repeat yourself and sensationalise. 👏👏
Dear Bride !!! Im SOOO PROUD OF YOU !!! THAT TOOK REAL GUTS DARLIN !!! HE WASNT THE MAN FOR YOU AND YOU DODGED A BULLET. GOD WILL SEND YOU THE RIGHT MAN HONEY. HE WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH HIS dishonesty and that everyone who was at your wedding will think about what he did EVERYTIME THEY LOOK AT HIM ! THEY WILL LOOK AT YOU WITH PRIDE AND LIVE. GOOD LUCK SWEETHEART !
I wish I had someone let me know I was making a big mistake !!! I was his 1st wife n knew I had made a big mistake with in a month!! I stayed 10 years as I was pregnant with in 3 mo tried to make a go of it as he promised he would never do it again But three daughters later, my best friend let me know she had been one of his flings. He had 6 wives after me. God pulled me thru and gave me a wonderful second husband n three sons. We had 25 wonderful years together
Years ago I was involved with a guy with whom I didn’t know was engaged to be married. I found out eventually and when I did like this girl in this article i did contact his fiancé. Needless to say she didn’t care that he was cheating on her, she actually told me to ***k off and went on to marry the cheater. What this woman did took a lot of courage and the right thing by not marrying him. Sometime women just don’t care if they are cheated on and continue to be disrespected on the daily.
I knew when I married my husband Frank I was indeed doing the Right thing and he would always Love me for me and never cheat,we are still Happy today and I Know God Gave You the Strength you needed to do what you did and one day when you least expect it You Will find the right Guy May God Bless You Always!😇🙏🤩🥰
You go girl!!.. God will bless you for standing for faithfulness!! God’s word is very stern about having a monogamous relationship between a man and a woman!! I know it took HIS strength in you to do what you did & HE will bless you with a man that will love you & only you!! Forsake all others is part of the vows & that guy thought he was getting away with deceiving you but God had a part in exposing him!! That is so very AWESOME!!!
I know how she feel im so sorry you went through that, my story is almost the same with her. 10 years relationship to be exact today December 20, we are common law wife and husband i found the woman in our house. I was at work then I felt and I saw a vision of another woman in the house we shared, I clock out from work went home and there is the woman in our house taking a shower and come find out they been together on and off for 6 years. I broke up with him this March.
Luring to someone is the worst thing to do to someone. When the truth is better and in some circumstances can be forgiven depending on what the person has lied to you about. When you’re in a relationship with someone for that long they deserve the truth and if you’re not ready to settle down with them then don’t
He had to have shown signs. I hate this for her and all of the other women who have lived through relationships based on lies. We have all witnessed what was going on, but we didn’t say anything. We wanted HER to catch him. We even made sure she was at the right place at the right time to catch him. She walked right up on him dead in the act of being out with another woman even! He told her that he was there with his buddies from work and they left him all alone and he couldn’t find any of them. Then this beautiful lady who remembered him from college walked up, hadn’t seen her in years, “Imaging that babe! What a coincidence! We aren’t here together, it just looks that way”. She bought it hook, line, and sinker. We gave up on her. If she wanted to be a fool then let her. Three years later a woman carrying a baby knocked on her front door. She proceeded to tell my friend that the baby in her arms was his and there was a second one on the way. He’s been behind on giving her money so she’s taking him to child support court. Come to find out the two of them had been together the entire time he was dating and living with her, in her house, that she bought before she met him. Child support kicked in a while later after DNA test on both children were done, resulting in both being his. They take $150 a week out of his paycheck for child support. Soon he couldn’t cover his share of the household finances. They started to have money problems, especially after he convinced her to sell her house so they could buy a bigger more expensive house together.
I worked with a lady who planned her wedding only to have the groom want to call it off as he had a girlfriend. Then, she proceeds to tell me that it’s cool and they were all going to live together in the house they bought. I said no way. What will you do when she stays over and they have sex? Would he share the house if she had another man? No way. I think she finally saw sense and left him.
She is BLESSED to have found out BEFORE! Good on who ever the girl was to give her a heads-up.. After 35 years of marriage & a whole lot of sacrificing my career so he could be elevated. All out money into his bussiness. Now I learn the reason for my anxiety & depression “I never understood them symptoms is your soul knowing what you don’t and it wants you to go in and learn self love so your eyes may open to a cheating husband – unrequited love brings depression & anxiety.
Open rebuke is better than secret love. Most people don’t allow God to choose their mate, and therefore winds up with the wrong person. Even with God putting Adam and Eve together, look at what happened when the devil showed up in the form of a serpent. When you have a relationship with God, as your Heavenly Father God is obligated to give you the very best, and if Satan does appear and causes things to go south, God will always be there to protect you and advise you on what to do to escape further harm from the spouse allowing Satan to interfere. I am so happy she had the wisdom to not be suckered into what would have been an extremely toxic and dangerous farce of a marriage. The fiance had no respect for her or marriage; obviously he just wanted to have his cake and eat it too. Marriage is too serious to become involved with selfish/self-centered/self serving individuals as this deceitful and jokester of a groom. He is the loser all around. Trillions of kudos to this wise, brave, and courageous bride for not allowing the groom to deceive her any longer. I am glad the other female involved sent the texts.
DECEMBER 20, 2021 “WHEN I JOINED THE RANKS of humanity, born into the humblest conditions. My Glory was hidden from all but a few people. Occasionally, streaks of Glory shone out of Me, especially when I began to do miracles. Towards the end of My life. I was taunted and tempted to display more of My awesome Power than My Father’s plan permitted. I could have called down legions of angels to rescue Me at any point. Imagine the self~control required of a martyr who could free Himself at will! All of this was necessary to provide the relationship with Me that you now enjoy. Let your life become a praise song to Me by proclaiming My glorious Presence in the world.” (JESUS CALLING)
Unfortunately, but necessary and you are clearly a strong woman who refuses to settle for less than you deserve! I’m sure you’re still hurting, as this was a most difficult reality for you to face at the literal last minute before taking those vows which you clearly as you should take those vows very seriously and an investment of a lifetime for anyone who believes those vows are meant to be a forever commitment and I admire your bravery, honesty and strength for doing that which was necessary for your own sake and future happiness! Good for you honey! You deserve better and Bless your heart for refusing to settle! You did the right thing! A cheater at the very moment he was prepared to lie to your face on what should have been the happiness day of your life together with the man you trusted enough to give all, heart, soul and lifelong commitment!!!! Gid bless you and your true love who will appreciate your love and respect you enough to be honest. Faithful and thankful to have a woman of virtue, morals, standards and the respect for yourself to demand that which you were willing to give and expected only the same in return!!!! You go girl!!!!!! It was no accident that you found out in the nick of time.
I stand by you keep your graud up till you are due there is another out there but better and don’t keep it from him till him in being how you feel and work it out together if he loves you he will stand beside you forever I know this works from experience the man I have married now after 9 yrs and 27 of knowing and dating is great and heads over hills so deeply in love with me I never thought could happen just keep the wall up till you can trust him and dead sure . Good luck and god be with you every step. There is someone out there this means it wasn’t meant and he wasn’t your soul mate if I find mine over age 50 you will find yours you are young and still have plenty of time you have rest if your life don’t rush it. It will come to you. God bless you every step way and listen to him and your heart.
I applaud Casey for standing up for herself I think she did the right thing she had a very difficult decision to make but make it she did I hope this strong amazing young lady will find someone deserving of her love and respect and treat her like the precious gem she is I wish her well and good luck for the future And as for the cheating groom it served him right to be exposed and have everyone including his friends turn against him for what he did
Casey ! You are a strong women. You made an important decision . I hope you find a man that really loves you and is honest and true. I made a great mistake many years ago. I wish I had my marriage annulled after my honeymoon like I wanted to, but thought of everyone else first before myself and my family. Good Luck!
Unfortunately my wife’s best friend only found out AFTER being married to a jerk for over two years that he was still banging his old girlfriend. I know of several other cheaters who have remarried and their life is HELL because they have to account for EVERY minute of EVERY day to their new spouses. I couldn’t live like that!!!
First I would like to have Casey as a personal friend. Second I really Hope that Many Other Women will follow Casey’s lead in being a strong example of the kind of woman who Knows her Value, self worth, her morals, ethics and how to Live by them Even when the Correct decision is a Painful one. Congratulations Casey ! Ya Done Right by Yourself !!! Good On YOU !!!
Wish I hadn’t been so blinded by love. The last affair ended it all. I had raised his children and gave he and his family 17 years of my life. I’m doing great now and married a man of morals and great respect for me. All is well. It is a huge decision to commit your life to someone. Regard it as such.
I wish I would of done something like that i found out the day before i got married he was cheating on me with my cousin i married him had 6 boys and stayed together 19 yrs but that hole time he cheated made me feel like it was my fault we got divorce i met a good man we been together 8yrs and he loves me he show me how a woman should be loved…
The comments bring to mind the storie about Princess Diana. As the royal wedding day drew closeer, Diana had been under so much stress, and had barely seen Charles, she had been living isolated from her friends and her old life at Buckingham Palace, she wanted to back out, call off the wedding. She had found a gold bracelet engraved with words of love, sent as a gift from Camilla to Charles. She told her sister about it, she wanted out. her sister told her, it was too late bcause her picture was on all the souvenirs for sale, ‘Your face is on the Tea Towels,, Duck”. or someting similar was her reply to Diana. Poor girl!! only 19, and a babe in the woods full of wolves. We already know how Charles spent his time on thier honeymoon talking with Camilla on the phone. and Diana found the gold cufflinks he was wearing, a gift from Camilla, again. And she found out that Charles had smuggled Camilla into his apt at Buckingham Palace the night before the wedding. She was trapped into a love-less marriage. Bravo to the girl in this story,. and bravo to the ‘other woman” who did her a great favor.
