U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has been accused of honeymooning in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War. The popular Democrat senator visited the Soviet Union in 1988, and he called the trip his “strange honeymoon.” Sanders and his wife did travel to Yaroslavl, a city in the Soviet Union. The trip was part of 3½ hours of raw, never publicly seen footage of the trip. A new report from the Washington Post shows that Sanders blasted U.S. foreign and domestic policy at a Russian city. The trip was not just a “very strange honeymoon” but also a “very strange trip” to learn from each other. The Democratic presidential candidate spent his honeymoon behind the Iron Curtain in 1988 to learn from each other. The state of the country in 1988 wouldn’t have made him a communist sympathizer. The 10-day sojourn is facing scrutiny as some Democrats worry Trump will hammer him on his long-buried words in defense of governments in Nicaragua.
