Did Kobe Bryant Parents Attend His Wedding?

Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Bryant had a long-lasting relationship, but not everyone was happy with their marriage. Kobe’s parents did not attend his wedding in April 2001, and they were unhappy with the couple’s choice. Kobe’s father, Joe Jellybean Bryant, was a former NBA player who went on to coach both in the US and abroad.

Kobe’s parents were unhappy with his marriage to Vanessa, so they did not attend the wedding. They were unhappy with their daughter-in-law being from a different race, as Vanessa was a Latina while Kobe and his family were African-Americans. The reason behind the love-hate relationship between Kobe and his parents was that they didn’t want their daughter-in-law to be from a different race.

The relationship began to sour when Kobe began dating Vanessa. At the couple’s wedding in April 2001, Kobe’s parents did not attend the ceremony, leading to a two-year estrangement. The relationship ended only when Kobe and Vanessa’s oldest daughter, Natalia, was born in January 2003.

Tensions between Kobe and his parents surfaced when Kobe began dating Vanessa, culminating in their absence from the wedding. Kobe’s mother opposed the marriage because she thought they were too young to tie the knot, but after the couple got married, Gianna won’t get to live her dream.

Kobe and his parents are not on speaking terms because they don’t approve of his interracial marriage and because they sold his high-profile estate.

This was paid to get Boston Celtics star Bill Russell’s first of eleven NBA championship rings from the 1957 NBA championship.

Fancy color diamonds are even rarer and more expensive. The GIA grades these diamonds using a complex color system. Our list of the world’s most expensive diamond rings looks at different colors, sizes, and prices. At the top of our list is the Pink Star, a 59.60-carat oval-shaped pink diamond. Why was the Pink Star so expensive? Type IIa diamonds are rare and have no impurities. In 2016, the GIA said it was the largest internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond in the world. Only a few pink diamonds are found in the world. The Pink Star is the largest fancy vivid pink diamond ever found. Diamonds in any color of that size are rare. The Pink Star is three times larger than the largest previous diamond of its kind. In April 2017, Chow Tai Fook bought a pink diamond ring at an auction in Hong Kong for $71.2 million. The company renamed it the CTF Pink.

  • His parents made a public statement apologizing to Kobe for selling his memorabilia without permission, they admitted that Kobe was Financially supporting them until they did all that shady shit. Imagine your accomplishments In trophies, Championship rings etc. you giving them to your parents as representing a “Thank you for getting me here.” For them to turn around instead and sell it all in an auction for $450,000+. That’s a slap in the damn face tellin your child none of it mattered to them but they would rather have had the money. So those who are saying he should have respected his parents and still had listened and done for them what they did for him. When is it ever ok for your parents to disrespect you? Never! He did what he felt in his heart he needed to do because of their own ungratefulness. And they reconciled after his retirement, so he did what he needed to do in order for them to understand as his parents your kids should always be respected even in their choices.

  • I’m Latina my mom always said when the son gets married usually forget their moms and get closed to their wives family . In Islam mother comes first second and third . Paradise is under our mothers feet . He forgot his mom, and he lost everything . Who carried him for 9 months, who gave him birth and feed him and took care for him ? His wife didn’t raised him or feed him . Of course Vanessa was his love, but his mother knew him first . Now Vanessa is getting trouble with her mom . very sad

  • As “Pink Book Lessons” pointed out. There’s a lot left out surrounding the subject of his parents selling his memorabilia. Kobe’s mom asked him if he wanted the stuff and Kobe told his mom, “No, it’s yours mom…” According to Kobe, he had been taking care of them for most of his NBA career and them selling his stuff, highlighted their unappreciative attitude towards him. I don’t agree with him on that. They sacrificed their entire adult lives so that u can become one of the greatest athletes in the entire world. He bought his mother in law a house, Which is why I don’t understand why his parents had to sell his memorabilia to purchase a home. He probably bought them a house a longtime ago, I don’t know. His father was NBA player and played in Italy too, but that doesn’t mean his parents made sound decisions when concerning their finances. There’s a lot to unpack here without knowing all the details but my opinion is Vanessa should have insisted, his parents take front seat along with her at his memorial, just for the eyes of the world can witness, even if she didn’t want to do it. It wasn’t a good look. It’s perceived that his parents had very little to do with his success, which is hardly the case.

  • I honestly wish everyone would see an interview with Kobe, talking and being grateful to his parents. In the interview he expressed how much they had done for him and his sisters. How he was raised in a stable loving home. Thanking both parents, (his words) “Especially my mom she worked very hard to give us a good upbringing.” My mom is like me, competitive and will accept a challenge. I believe that when he realized he was going to die, he asked, “His parents for forgiveness.” I would like to know if he has come to them in their dreams? I believe he is able to see things clearly, money has no value to him. I seriously don’t believe he will leave his parents with a heavy burden of feeling guilty. Knowing now that he was wrong. If his parents or sisters ever decide to write a book about “The Great Kobe Bryant.” I will definitely buy it, Kobe, had several positive attributes I will study and determine why the feud went on for yrs. What or who fanned the fire to keep it going?

  • I’m sorry if Kobe and his parents didn’t get to fix what ever went wrong in the past that caused a break down in their loving family relationship because the way he talked about them he had a loving relationship with them especially his mother never let anything or anyone come between you and your parents because you never know when your last day will be and may not be able to forgive and be forgiven I think Kobe parents have a heavy load on their hearts knowing they lost their only son way to soon and they didn’t get to make things get back to the way they had been all his life may God heal and bless ❤ 🙏 your hearts and as for Kobe wife I pray 🙏 the same for you and your daughters but as a wife and mother you should have been the bridge that help close that gap his family became your family when you married but I can see what you learned from your mother she seems to not have motherly OR FAMILY LOVE THE WAY SHE’S BEEN TREATING YOU SINCE HER GRAND DAUGHTER AND SON AND LAW PASSED AWAY SHE SHOULD HAVE LEARNED FROM THAT WE NEVER KNOW WHEN WE MAY NEVER GET THAT LAST CHANCE TO SAY I’M SORRY AND I LOVE YOU 💘 YOU AND YOUR MOTHER NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT

  • I don’t thing that’s reason to stop talking to your parents, specially parents that always stood there for you. mine wasn’t there for me, my aunt took care of me until i become a teenager, but i forgive them, and i have a good relationship with my mom specially. yes i know it’s upseting and dissapointing, but it’s not something critical, where as much as you want, you cannot forgive? and look when this happened, 2013 three years before his retirement, when he was already a millonaire. today he’s no longer with us and has two women fighting over his money.

  • Sounds like he let Evil dictate his life. Nobody and I mean nobody would come between my me and my mom. She sold his things because he wasn’t doing anything for them at the time. Remember when, his parents left Los Angels. They had issues then. He married Vanessa when, they were dead set against it. It was more going on than we know.

  • Selling his things…things that they helped him achieve? If there is anyone who can have anything that i own, it is my mother. ” i was going to buy them a nice home”…. why didnt they already have one given the money he had. Whatever story the media wants to put out there is a joke. We as Black people know the truth, and its not pretty. But go ahead

  • its not a secret, throughout the years Kobe has been known to be the team mate from hell, even talked down on Shaq, THAT TELLS US EVERYTHING we need to know about Kobe relations with his family. Clearly they sold his memorabilia because they didnt have money, meaning HE DIDNT TAKE CARE OF THEM. There should be a documentary about Kobe wife, thats all i gotta say.

  • Deep down I think kobe was heart broken over his parents betrayal and never came to terms off working things out for the best, money is the root of evil, you can’t take it with you when you’re gone, like Jada Pinkett said never give relatives money nor buy them things they can’t afford, especially if there trying to profit off of you

  • Something about the whole story is not right. Where i believe vanessa is money hungry is when she encourage the public to donate money to the family of the other victims that died in the crash. Donate money to their friends, I believe she should have done that out of her own money as an act of friendship. But that is my opinion.

  • Why this much grudge against parents. You have millions and can’t take care of your parents? As much as people respect Kobe and his mamba mentality, I wonder how many of us can deal with this type of person if he was your friend, family, coworker or your boss. Regardless of his trophies he was rude to everyone.

  • Just like he made a mistake his parents did too but i dont think they never stop loving him. To hold on to this till he died there was never peace and CLOSURE. Make peace with yiur love ones and people God is real. He forgave us by sending his only begotten son to die for all of our sins. Jesus said forgive them for thou they do not know. Dont hold bad feeling that comes back to you family have closure. Children become adult and they think they have to prove things to there parents and others. It never works out his parents sacrifice alot for him and he forgot all that. People dont have to like or agree with your but the facts are Respect..

  • Yes he did👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾she NEVER stopped loving him and he NEVER stopped loving her🥰💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜 Vannessa’s gold digger mom was the problem, she had her mind on Kobe’s fortune since day one, she threatened Kobe to marry Vanessa when they were young, she said if he didn’t marry her she the mom would say it was stachatory rape🤨the mother-in-law was a real “B” but real love last forever and Kobe and his mom have real love😘💛💜

  • WOWW. SAD. ALL. THE WAY AROUND. THEY STILL. HIS PARENTS. NO MATTER WHAT. ITS HARD TO BELIEVE. THAT HE TOLD THEM. HE WOULD BUY THEM A HOUSE. BUT THEY STILL. SOLD HIS STUFF. TO BUY A. HOUSE. IT’S NOT. MAKING. SENSE. THAT WOULD HAVE MADE THEM. KEEP THE STUFF. FOR AWHILE. UNTILL THEY WERE. NEEDY AGAIN. THIS IS JUST SO SAD. I WISH. THEY COULD HAVE. MADE UP. THEY. JUST. BEING DRAGGED. ALL THE WAY AROUND. AND IT’S. JUST. NOT RIGHT.

  • He left his money to his wife who will marry another Men in few years and will foregot him, but didnt Apreciate his family who made him who he was .. God give him time and more success to think about his Parents and reunite with them or if he wasnt Interested to be in good Term with his family if i have half of Billon? I wu’d buy my Parents a 5M House where they can live the Rest of thier life and said thankyou herw u have a House but i am not Intersted to be close to you Again🤷‍♀️. But he was so Selfish that God toook him so early in this World ..

  • Pam Bryant, (mommy), selling HIS memorabilia, for $450,000 behind Kobe’s back?!?!?! #SICK & #TWISTED!!!!!!! Now you see WHY his parents STRIVED to make him a success?!?!?! Because they, (especially SHE), wanted that almighty dollar!!! It’s all about “The MONEY!!!” Sad excuse for parents. No matter what they did for him, they did it for ALL the wrong reasons. 🙌. I’m glad he found the LOVE of his LIFE, that loved HIM for HIM, & not for the MONEY!!! (RIP, sweet Kobe & Gianna. Vanessa and the kids are A-Ok since YOU are their Angel perusal over them. YOU are and will always be our hero. And a BEACON of LIGHT, to this ugly & cruel world.) #BlackMamba&Mambacita4ever

  • I know this is late but reading the comments yall crazy. Yes the Bible says honor thu mother and father but just because you meet them where they are doesn’t mean you’re being disrespectful. Yes we all know it’s 3 sides to every story, but it seems as tho the PARENTS took the first shot by not attending their sons wedding because they didn’t approve of WHO he was marrying…ummmm that’s wrong! At the end of the day, you live life for YOU not your parents. As parents we have to some times step aside and respect our children’s decisions, even tho we may not agree with them. From the looks of it Kobe pursued her and not the other way around. So what did she do wrong to his parents? Was she suppose to say no to marrying him because his parents didn’t approve? People talking about you honor your mother and father, but let’s not forget what else the good Book says. Once they said “I DO” Vanessa became first in his life, even before Mom and Dad🤷🏾‍♀️ And if I was Vanessa I would probably feel the same way she did/does. What do she owe them? She got judged, tried and executed way before his parents could get to know her all because of her nationality. How is that right or fair. So I don’t blame her. Esp now that Kobe is gone, she don’t owe them nothing but a healthy relationship with their grandkids🤷🏾‍♀️ IJS and I’m saying this as a Black woman and also as a wife who’s dealt with a mother in law that didn’t like me because I was 1 dark skin and 2 felt I was taking her son away(which still doesn’t make sense to me til this day).

  • Yeah that was nuts because even with doing his eulogy mom is all pops navigate up to speak at all and that was funny when his last game of the season that his parents wasn’t there who would have went down with them you could never know what things happen when a person has a lot of money and his relatives don’t feel they gettingWhat do you think it deserves where it should come from him wanting to give you whatever he gives you and I’m sure he would’ve gave him the world like he has but things happen I’m not a greedy people relatives

  • GOD is not concerned about a Mamba Mentality 🤷🏾‍♀️…The World is👀…The BIBLE say to Honor thy mother and *father, or your DAYS will be cut short❤Ephesians 6:2-3❤periodt!…Never Harbor HATE and Hold GRUDGES to anyone…sometime you just have to LOVE ppl with A #Longhandlespoon ❣❤❤❤ if you cant get along😢💔.

  • KOBE WAS WRONG ! He was worth $325MILLION & did NOTHIN for His Parents. He paid College for His 2 Sis, that’s it. NOT Vanessa’s fault, She kept The FAM together. It’s JORDAN’S ! In a 2013 post gm. interview, a Reporter asked about it, He replied, “They solded My $#¡T” ! “Why not give Them💰”? He said, “They need to find Their OWN way”. Those are MICHAEL JORDAN’S words ! When that idiot was asked about Him doing for His Siblings in His career. Which is BμLL$#¡T ! KOBE did NOT Honor His Mother & Father so HIS days would BE long upon the land, That’s BIBLE !!!! KOBE PROMISED His Parents a 🏠 5mths BEFORE Ms.PAM sold that stuff. What, You can’t find a 🏠 in 5 mths? $#¡T !!!!

  • Stop the cap. He was not close with his parents. They didn’t support him when it came to Vanessa and didnt attend the wedding. After that they didnt go to his championship games(which he won) the following season. They ruined their relationship with their son and future grandchildren because he married someone they didnt want him to, because he wouldn’t do what mommy and daddy said to. So FUCK no they dont deserve to capitalize off his successes. Also why they didnt speak at his funeral, shit they better be happy Vanessa even invited them.

  • More power for Vanessa all this people are so envies of Vanessa the queen of Kobe’s Bryant and Vanessa mother again get a job lady and leave your daughter to leave her life with her children Kobe’s queen was and always be Kobe’s queen and she loved Kobe with all her heart Vanessa god is always right be side you much love and god bless you and your kid’s

  • The reason why Kobe stop stop talking to his parents, bacause they were selling his things, and also he marry out of his race and he new his parents didn’t like Vansanna and some other people too. He married the right woman some people just jealouse and envy his relationship and his children. You don’t Steal nobody things it goes for any parent or anybody else. He said out of his own mouth, HE WAS going to but his parents a house they couldn’t wait, they had to STEAL FROM HIM that wrong.

  • I blame his parents…Kobe gave them more than enough that his mom did not need to sell stuff that was very important to Kobe without his permission…I wonder if that house in Las Vegas was worth it for her mother to ruin the relationship. Also not accepting his wife because she was not Black was wrong. That is why they got no respect at the funeral

  • No matter what is said by the media or whatever happened between Kobe and his parents, it did not diminish their love for each other. Things happen in families and we as outsider need to leave it there. Show some respect to his parents. They gave us Kobe. This crap is so inappropriate. My heart goes out to his family.

  • That’s why so important never to let anger get in the way of a relationship the Bible says never go to bed mad cuz you never know you might not wake up the next day and you don’t have time to say I’m sorry apologize or say I love you I know the family is heartbroken about losing his son that’s why we all should just love one another no matter what cuz family is most important things in the world!!!

  • Get this straight: Kobe’s parents are just as heartbroken as Kobe’s wife, Venessa, and their three daughters. His parents meant well for him; all parents can be placed in a situation where they come to see their 21-year old as being too young to marry. It did not mean they hated his choice. If it was not for Joe “Jellybean” Bryant (Kobe’s father), Kobe would have not reached the apex of his basketball career. Too often, we get lost in the details of family dispute. Most successes attained by African-Americans can be attributed to their parents. Kobe’s parents did extremely well for him and ought to be admired by all. Let’s not becloud their good work with judgement.

  • Offering your parents $250,000 when you are worth $500 million? I’m sorry, but I think I would be upset as a parent too. People strive to reach Kobe’s level in life, and the number one thing you hear when they do is an oath to their parents that they never have to worry again about finances. No cap on the amount. I don’t know what the dynamic was between them, or what led him cutting his family members off financially, but the tone of this story is very disheartening. We will never know the full why, because he’s not here… but it makes me sad to hear that he treated his parents and like that. I’m being real.

  • Kobe had set the stage for this type of disrespect (towards his parents) from the very beginning when he was engaged to Vanessa. Kobe’s parents opposed his marrying a Mexican woman among other reasons and, as a result, he did not invite them to his wedding. His actions told Vanessa that SHE herself could, in turn, treat them with such disregard. Hence, Vanessa chose not to give respect to her in-laws and saw to it that the people with whom she coordinated the February 24th memorial would leave them out.

  • It is heartbreaking that Kobe’s parents and siblings were not honored at the memorial etc. They are his parents for God’s sake. Whatever may have happened in the past, I do believe that Kobe loved his parents and sibling just as much as he loved his daughters and wife and they loved him just as much. These are the parents he chose and they are the ones who shaped him into becoming the wonderful husband and father he was. They are the grandparents of his children. He was their only son. They probably would never have another son and his kids would never have another father, everything else is replaceable.

  • Seeing clips of Kobe smiling and happy is heartwarming but at the same time makes me cry to myself. Seeing him happy not knowing what his future held just 4 years after retirement makes me so sad just remembering that tragic day of January 26, 2020. I get that no one knows what their future’s hold and that it’s impossible to see the future but that’s just the emotions and thoughts that run through my head seeing such clips. I miss you so much Kobe, you have no idea. My heart is in so much pain. So much. It’s like a piece of me died. The way it all happened too. It would have been understandable if you were to pass from old age but to pass in such a tragic way is what makes me feel so sad. If only I could have been present in your life and predicted the incident to warn you to not fly that day or to find another way of transportation. So sad. RIP GOAT. RIP LEGEND. RIP KOBE. 🐐

  • Joe and Pamela Bryant raised Kobe the right way and instilled a work ethic and competitiveness for him to become a great human being. He was one of sharpest young people that I can think of well spoken, articulate, driven and loving dad, father and husband to his family. The old saying that the” Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”. Kobe was the Apple and Joe and Pam were the tree. RIP Kobe and my deepest condolences and sympathy to you and your family as well as the other families who lost their lives in this tragedy. God bless.

  • Mr Bryant Kobe support homeless kids here in the Philippines 🇵🇭 that’s why he is love by many Filipinos. Mr Kobe visited Philippines for many times before & now he’s gone he’ll be remember by many. To the family who lost their loved ones in Psalm 34:18 The LORD is closed to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crcrashed in spirit. Psalm 147:3 The LORD heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Amen 😇

  • My heart goes out to the parents and sisters because I don’t believe they had closer or a good relationship with him before this happen, that void will be forever in their hearts and not being able to get what they had before will be embedded forever…Just So Sad ..Death….losing a love one being in a good relationship hurts and you never get over it….you learn to live with their lost….to lose someone you haven’t been seeing or speaking to…there will be an unforgettable void. My Heart, hurts for them, May God Grant you peace within🙏

  • It’s on a whole different level to sell your baby’s memorabilia and gifts! I can’t EVEN! Understand that! How sad for Kobe. I can’t imagine him selling off his daughter’s memorabilia for money. You know money didn’t seem to mean as much to him, as living well, being grateful and not squandering the gifts and opportunities given to him. It’s funny how you can be raised in the same house and even by greedy parents, and you choose not to be greedy, and not make money, #1, over your own family.

  • Kobe’s mother and sisters were left behind. Kobe wrote a letter “To his year old self”. He admonishes NOT to give, give, give to family. He explains that it creates a dependency and robs people of pursuit of their own dreams. This was a tough situation bc Kobe and his father had the talent. Hmm? It did seem like his mama could’ve made herself happy with the the $250K house but his mother was loosing her son. Perhaps it wasn’t really about the money:-(. Some counseling explained that his mother also had a competitive nature. Hmm? Like mother like son.

  • It was his money ( it’s now Vanessa & whatever man she decides to deal with) but he bought his gold digging mother in law a million dollar home & took care of her but didn’t want to spend $450000 on his mother. HONOR THY MOTHER AND FATHER. In the end, he couldn’t take that money with him & it didn’t stop that helicopter from going down.

  • Don’t ever let anyone wife husband or otherwise come btwn you and your children or your parents. PERIODT. As long as no one’s getting hurt or abused if they love it just like it. It’s sad that it sounds like Kobe & his parents weren’t on speaking terms at the time of death. There’s a lot to deal with here and my heart goes out Kobe’s parents bc they are the most heartbroken of anyone. This is all sad. The best thing that can come from this pain is Pam and Vanessa can eventually find their way to one another mend fences and develop a relationship. Kobe’s parents and his sisters can be a part of their grandchildren and nieces lives as a whole family and get through this together. I wish them all well.

  • I love Kobe parents. They simply just wanted to protect their vulnerable and highly hormonal strong willed son. What parent wouldn’t? I respect that they tried to keep his real relationship with his first girlfriend alive because they KNEW her albeit being black. His parents knew women other than black were going to throw themselves everywhere on him. They tried to close rank. Until Vanessa. What Latina mama will allow her under aged daughter to date a 19 year old black guy??? And marry so quickly before meeting the son’s parents? Ponder that!!!!!!

  • LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!!!…KOBE we love and miss you bro forever rest in heaven baby gg and god bless the other angles on board god bless all of their souls and family’s may god put his love around them at this time thank you god and his parents for giving us kobe for the short amount of time he was here he left his markings he did a great job rest easy king 👑

  • What I really don’t understand about Koby”s mother . This woman is extremely beautiful. But why didn’t she take a % of the money n create or better yet buy a company . This way she would never have to ask Koby for another dime. But not to mention the parents of the mega star Koby Bryant. Regardless of how they both felt about the parents. They should have mentioned them n allowed them to say something at the memorial.

  • There not a family that doesn’t have differences. What ever was going on no one will ever know and this is not the time for this. There child/grandchild are deceased. They are still his parent who made him the player sacrifice love him and made him the person he became that show love. RIp It about the families loss and the tragedies. People died and we should be praying for all of them and there families. Negative accusation are not needed. Let act civil gbless you all aand especially the news people especially they need it. it not about a story it about respect. The Bryant’s and other families stay strong My prayers are with you all gbless

  • Thank you for acknowledging their grieve. They lost him once and again when hurtful people fan the flame by trying to ignore their pains by not acknowledging they are the biggest loser in this whole scandal. Our parents are not always right but no woman wants to be second to their son. They all are stubborn and a good woman will bring her house together esp when you know they are his foundation. God says to obey our parents and parents don’t provoke your children. He was their flesh n blood! As is his kids. Vanessa lost her partner, husband and daughter as did the rest of the souls involved in that crash; their loved ones. Pray for them all n be kind to grieving people not time to be messy.

  • My sincere condolences to out to his mother, who to begin with, carry him 9 months in her womb, gave birth to Kobe and raised and disciplined her only son, most times daughters are easier to raise. I am a perfect stranger, nonetheless, as a mother I feel her pain. I saw her pain in her face of shock during the Celebration of Life. My condolences also go out to the Dad and sisters. I am not nowhere or near rich or my son a celebrity, nonetheless Kobe was a son, a person and a human being, with feelings and love for his parents and family, he became Kobe because of his parents support to achieve a dream n passion and become an NBA player as his Dad. Family must have been there to assist n for support, specially Mom n Dad. I sometimes have lots of disagreements with my son, we both have very strong personalities. In some occasions, we don’t talk or hear from each other for sometime, specially after a disagreement. It doesn’t mean I don’t love him, my love for my children will be there until the last breath I take. I am sure it’s the same for most moms. I always remind him, my son (n his sisters too) that I am also a daughter, I call my Mom n Dad (still together) and O make sure they are doing well. It is not my parents responsibility to check on me, as a daughter I should check on them, specially my Mom. It’s the bond between mother n daughter bond. This way of thinking, I passed it to my kids, specially my son. So from time to time he calls me and says he misses me and if am ok n that he loves me, regardless of any arguments or disagreements we may have had in the past.

  • The love of money is the root to all evil. she had a husband who was in the NBA let her child live his dream. It’s sad when family wants to live off someone else is accomplishment. Instead of working for their own regardless if it’s your child your sister or your brother. if somebody wins the lottery in your family. they owe you nothing if somebody is a football player basketball player they owe you nothing. it’s sad that she lost her son over money. read your Bible it’s not money is the love of it even if she gets a big house when she died she can’t take it with her. Kobe just retired and didn’t get to enjoy his kids or retirement.smh

  • But I strongly believe that god will deal with Koby”s wife if she refuse to help koby”s mother or in business n at lease bring some peace in there relationship. So that the past will be left in the past tense. I think it’s very childish for Koby”s wife to not have allowed Koby”s mother or n both the father to say something. Regardless of the past, leave it there n move on . Koby”s mom would appreciate the love if or when ever Venessa would show her love again towords Koby”s mother . I pray that kobys wife will bring genuine peace n help koby”s mother from her heart . But if she ignores this woman . God will send her through something. Will koby”s mother see her grand kids or will koby”s with keep that from her also ???

  • As someone who had my parents reject my spouse and the complications that brought in our relationship, I can totally get Kobe’s perspective. No one can know your spouse better than you. Marry who makes you happy and not simply who your parents “approve.” If parents cannot accept your choice of love, that’s on them. Kobe’s passing will haunt them for the rest of their lives, and the reality is they may never have a great relationship with their grandchildren because of this. Lesson here is, Parents control the narrative in their relationship with their grown kids. It is extremely arrogant to think you can “approve” someone else’s spouse just because they are your kid.

  • His parents were only trying to protect their son. They come from wealth. Kobe married a back up dancer straight out if high school. She doesn’t have the skills to keep his businesses afloat. She was only cute and thats it. She added no value. Kobe wasn’t some hood kid, he wouldn’t be who he was without his parents. The WIFE is what kept Kobe away. She was jealous and just like other non-black mates….they dont want his family to prosper because it takes away from her and her family!! The industry hates seeing black generational wealth. So they push narratives that people fall into to break black families. The Kardashians are married but its all in the family…..where is Kayne’s family?? Why arent they working and contributing in some form?? Yet the Kardashians have cousins, nieces, nephews all working for them in some way.

  • I hate parents that stay with their hands out to collect money from their kid. I’m truly disappointed in his mom. Any parent that thinks it’s ok to extort money from their child one way or another bc they want much more …. Its a true reflection on their character. Your child should be able to give out of the goodness of their heart, not pushed into giving much more 🙁

  • This is not an option…its a commandment…Honor. your MOTHER and FATHER (regardless of what money they want cant spend it DEAD.. or they’re request) that your days on earth will be long!! KOBE SUDDEN DEATH RELATED TO CURSE… THE WORD OF.GODS WORD DOESNT COME BACK VOID…!!! BE CAREFUL TO RESPECT HONOR YOUR PARENTS OR YOUR DAYS WILL BE SHORT….

  • My condolences go out to his mom and dad. Without them he would not have accomplished all he did; they made and molded him. Kobe really should have put them waaaaaay before his wife’s family. What the heck I look like putting outside people over mine? He seemed to be an awesome father, husband, and son-in-law but failed to be a awesome son, grandson and brother.

  • His parents are terrible people. Kobe didn’t associate with them for the most part for many years because they wouldn’t attend his games after he married a Latina. They also sold his rings, trophies, and jerseys he gave them. He was open about how terrible his relationship with them had become and it was all because of them. They resented him for marrying outside his race and sold their own son’s belongings.

  • Kobe’s parents along with his two sisters disowned him when he wanted to marry Vanessa, they protested gave him ultimatums and didn’t attend his wedding. Kobe financially supported his family. His parents threw a fit because they were no longer in charge of his finances and upset that his bride would be. He didn’t speak to his parents for years and they didn’t attend his games. Briefly when Vanessa filed for divorce, here come his parents with the fake support and their hand out. They reconcile and his mother was demanding he buy her a bigger house and tried to sale his memorabilia . He took her to court and they haven’t spoke sense. His parents should be ashamed of themselves. I remember one year reading he transferred his e mantions in California in Vanessa name so his parents wouldn’t be able to sue for them. So the irony of his death Vanessa stood by him through the good and bad gave him 4 beautiful children and is the sole beneficiary of his estate. Kobe’s parents will have to get a job…smh rih Kobe & Beautiful GiGi. I pray for peace for all the families that loss a loved one on that helicopter. Family met everything to Kobe. He put his wife first as it should be.

  • I have heard a lot of comments. Family is going to go through some good and bad times. The main thing is that they stick together. I have had a lot of bouts with family members, but, we were able and still able to make Peace. So, let these people deal with their grief in their own way. Furthermore, may be this will bring their families closer together. Let us all Pray for their families, other families, and, our families.

  • My condolences the Kobe Bryant’s family friends and also fans May every good memory that you ever think about Kobe brighten your day he was a legend he was a champion may his memory live on forever aka the Black Mamba words cannot express the great loss are we have experienced today as it shouldn’t but as the days go on may we not forget how great of a man he was and my condolences to the other victims to their families and friends who died and that helicopter crash met all of these people in this accident rest in peace my condolences💐🙏🏻😔 and also rest in peace with daughter who passed away at the crash as well she was unable to reach her and possible star🌠 but may she never be forgotten😔🙏🏻💐……..

  • Wow! People (we) have no idea how he truly felt in his heart towards his parents . So don’t (assume) think because the Man didn’t publicly announce that he forgives his parents or anything that means he’s going to hell…smh God knows who Kobe was as a person & would sure know that the man loved his parents deep down despite whatever happened on earth. Stop being so little minded (sum) of u & start acknowledging the blessings this man brought to this earth, which I’m sure his parents are grateful and very thankful for having .

  • First of all, why the hatchet job on the mother? Get your facts straight. Kobe’s father and sister also didn’t attend the wedding. He also put his mother-in law in a 3 million dollar home. None of will know what went on with Kobe and his parents but they raised him and I’m sure they loved him. Maybe they weren’t perfect but I’m sure they did the best they could. You don’t OWE your parents anything but if I had 400 million I would buy my parents and in-law parents a nice mansion with some spending money and then say you are on your own. That’s just me but everybody is different. I feel very sorry for his Mom and Dad and it’s not because of the money. It’s sometimes a cruel world.

  • How kobe had to buy his parents a house? Just said his dad a baller and a coach right? and then if he did why not give them a mil dllr home. 250k house?? really.?? Plus i would hav been giving them a jersey and tennis shoes to let them sale if thex wanted. So what? dont make sense. to bad…i know they’love they child. Like joe jackson similarities ? sad.

  • They were money begging ungrateful scumbags, all they did was ask for money. His father also didn’t like Vanessa, this is why he stopped talking to them, I would’ve did the same shit. I feel sorry for them because they lost their son but why couldn’t they show some support and love for him and show up to his games. Rip, kobe, Gigi, and the other victims of the helicopter crash.

  • I see alot of people talking shit about Vanessa but she is the one who lost a husband and a daughter. Yes they were his parents but that doesn’t mean they were his family. Blood doesn’t make you family, Family is the people who support, love and are loyal to you. He built his family around the people who fulfilled those things with his wife, kids, Pau, RP, MJ and many other people in his inner circle. Everyone saying his parents are entitled to anything from him are the problem with today’s society. He was estranged from his parents for over a decade for reasons reasons that he believed in. He didn’t owe them anything. Everyone is so quick to judge but none of us truly know all the behind the scene things that went on to make him come to the decision to not support his parents.

  • My grade of Kobe Bryant A+ For being a phenomenal basketball player. A+ For being a phenomenal parent. C For being a husband. Basically due to his hundreds of infidelities. D- For the way he treated his parents over the years. If it was me, it’s no way in hell my parents would ever have to want for anything in this world if I was Kobe Bryant or had his money. You treat your mother and father like second-class citizens. But you treat your mother-in-law like royalty. Like she gave birth to you?@?@

  • The saddest side is that, they didn’t rekindle atleast before the tragic happened. But I also understand Kobe did towards his parents. I just can’t get it why most parents need to expect something from their kids when they get older and have a good career in life. Well infact, it’s parents responsibility to support their children from the moment they’re born and provide everything or enough that they need. Paying back is not children’s responsibility or must do. Parents must be thankful if their children knows how to look and give back. But it’s not necessary or their responsibility to pay back.

  • I believe a wife can bring a family together if she wants especially if that man loves his wife like kobe loved Vanessa. Vanessa was unforgiving to his parents for NOT accepting her from the beginning….that is why their were no reconciliation SO secretly she has to deal with that thaT she could have mended back together while kobe was here. I would have been pissed at them too from the beginning but LET IT GO later just because I know he needed to have them in his life too. No she flexed her power and showedd them who he would CLING to and so she WON his love OUT over the parents Now everybodys sad.l bc he left here SHOWIng loyal to his wife over his parents and not forgiving them nor making up with him when all She could have done was put the past aside and say” babe im not mad anymore, Im over the snub, lets go visit your parents Im Good. She did😮not do that, she kept that unforgiving hate for them instead of letting it go. Its so sad, but Now nobody has him BUT GOD.

  • It can be agreed that this is too soon of a time to post a article like this. I first off want to say that we should give his parents love and support just as much as everyone else that was in Kobe’s life. However, since we are on the subject, that does not take away the fact that his parents were not the loving parents that they should have been. That is not to say that they didn’t love him, because they clearly do, but their actions speaks volume that their own selfish expectations and desires overcame their love for their son. For one, they didn’t show up to his wedding, one of the most special days in his life. Although I am not sure if this is factual, it was mentioned in a different article that the reasoning behind it is because his parents didn’t want him to marry outside of his ethnicity. It is common amongst different cultures to have parents who possess those certain demands, but to not show up to your son’s wedding because he met someone outside of his race that truly makes him happy is beyond ludacris. If this is indeed true, then what this really means is that they have a distorted view on what true parenthood is. A lot of parents fall under that wrongful perspective that they think they know what’s best for their kids when it is really just based on their selfish fear of being inadequate parents. The problem with having this specific fear is that it is just a construct formed by a culture or society…there is no true definition other than what is widely accepted by a group of people.

  • I lost a son so I know his parents is devastated and at the time of death I couldn’t talk to noone at all I was so hurt I was even upset with God but I had to realize he was God son first and I ask God to forgive me but they lost a son and granddaughter so i know they it pain it take time and years to even process the lost of a child well for me and most of all strength from God
