However, the truth is that Queen Elizabeth did not attend the wedding because of her role as head of the Church of England.

The royal couple publicly shared their support for the marriage, but Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip did not attend the civil ceremony. • If I remember correctly there was an unusual controversy about this wedding ceremony. Under British law weddings are only valid if they’re conducted in English. The next day the bride and groom had a small civil ceremony in English to make their wedding legally valid. Even if you’re married in London in front of the Queen, you’re marriage is still invalid unless the priest uses English.

  • If I was behind that woman with the HUGE white hat, I would have quietly removed it. RIDICULOUS! But it was a lovely wedding. LOVED the bride’s veil. It was nice to see the Queen, Prince Philip, and Charles in a setting where they weren’t the center of attention. I’m sure it was enjoyable for them too. So nice to reminisce. Thanks for showing it.

  • This is perhaps the only time I’ve ever seen Victor Emmanuel of Savoy near Queen Elizabeth II. I’m not so delighted ‘cause for me the rightful hear of King Humberto II was Amedeo Duke of Savoy. Amedeo, how is sadly death two years ago, was related to King Constantin because his mother was Princess Irene of Greece. Now Aimone the Duke of Savoy, his son, ( rightful head of the House of Savoy to me and many other ) is married with Princess Olga of Greece. I’m sure both Amedeo, Aimone and Olga were at this wedding.

  • I remember when the King married the Danish Princess and they had to leave Greece. He was a very nice man fair and democratic in his thinking well educated. His children in spite of the difficulties well balanced and healthy. Will it be a private funeral ? They lived in London for many years. One documentary shows them visiting his house and garden in Greece that his family had purchased with their private money but was confiscated and abandoned by the government. Wild looking and returning to nature.
