Do Bridesmaids Follow The Bride?

The bride takes her father’s right arm, holds her bouquet, and the bridesmaids, flower girls, and page boys take their places behind the bride in pairs. They process down the aisle towards the groom, who takes a step forward to greet the bride. The bridesmaids will take their place on the left side of the bride and be seated in the first row. If the bride has no attendants, her father takes her bouquet and either places it on the front pew or gives it to the bride’s mother.

When asked to be a bridesmaid, there are many decisions to make. Most bridesmaids look forward to this responsibility, especially if it involves helping the bride choose her wedding gown. As couples enter marriage in their 30s and 40s, bridesmaids have become less of a necessity and more of an added stress.

Bridesmaids typically help the bride when she needs it and typically pay for the bachelorette party, which is a gift to the bride. The bride chooses her bridesmaids and honor attendant, plans and hosts the bridesmaids luncheon, gives her attendants thank-you gifts, and buys a gift for the groom. They may also host an engagement party and provide a list of guests to the couple.

The bride and groom may experience various emotions following the wedding, including joy, relief, and sadness. Bridesmaid luncheon etiquette is an important aspect of any wedding journey, as it is a wonderful way for the bride to show her gratitude and appreciation towards her bridesmaids for their support throughout the wedding preparations and events.

Do bridesmaids lead or follow the bride?

The flower girl and page boys walk down the aisle first, scattering petals. Then the bride and her father walk down the aisle. Next come the bridesmaids, with the maid of honor or chief bridesmaid closest to the bride. The bridesmaids make sure the bride’s dress and veil are ready before they sit down. The bride and father of the bride often go last. This makes people excited for the bridal party to arrive at the altar. The maid of honor or chief bridesmaid waits until the bride gets to the bottom of the aisle to fix her dress and veil if needed. There is no right or wrong way to decide on the order of walking down the aisle. Organize your bridal party however you want, but talk about it before the ceremony.

Who walks out first at a wedding?

What’s an example? This is how most weddings start: the officiant and groom, then family members. Next is the wedding party, ring bearer, and flower girl. Finally, the bride comes in with her father. You might think this won’t work for you. This order assumes all parents and grandparents are healthy and can walk down the aisle. This assumes all couples are male and female, which may not be true for your family and wedding party. When planning weddings, create a processional order that’s perfect for the couple. Use a traditional order as a baseline. These are the questions and tips I share with couples when designing their processional order. I will use “Groom/Bride” and “Partner A/Partner B” for gender-neutrality. Partner A is the first to enter, and Partner B is the second.

Do bridesmaids walk in front or behind the bride?

The bride leads the bridesmaids, maid of honor, flower girl, and ring bearer in a traditional wedding procession. Some brides send their entourage in first. This makes guests more excited for the bride’s entrance and gives her more time with her dad. Brides are also changing the wedding march for more modern songs like “At Last,” “Songbird,” and “Marry You.” Or, if you want something original and personal, ask a family member or friend to play your entrance music on a piano, guitar, or harp. The bride and groom, plus wedding party members, usually arrive in fancy cars or horse-drawn carriages. You can also travel in a more fancy way. If you want to get married at one of our country house hotels, we can arrange for you to arrive by helicopter.

Do bridesmaids precede the bride?

In the UK, bridal parties are smaller than in the US. Instead of a maid of honor, a bride selects a chief bridesmaid. In the US, the bridal party goes before the bride. In the UK, it goes after. British bridesmaids sit during the ceremony, while American bridesmaids stand beside the bride.

6. The UK has ushers, not groomsmen, and they don’t walk in with the bridesmaids. Sometimes they walk in alone in the US.

7. In the UK, the groom faces away from the bride until she gets to the altar.

8. It is rare for British couples to write their own vows because most people get married in the Church of England, which has strict rules.

Which bridesmaid walks down the aisle first?

How close are you? Be careful with this one. You’ll start with your maid of honor, then your sister or sister-in-law, and then it varies. You may have your best friend, cousin, or another close friend first. Be careful, as the last person may feel left out.

By How Long You’ve Known Each Other. This is another way to avoid hurting feelings. Figure out how long you’ve known each person, then put them in order from longest to shortest friendship.

By age. This could be diplomatic or touchy. The oldest bridesmaid or groomsman is closest to you, with the youngest on the outside.

Do bridesmaids get ready with bride?

If you choose bridesmaids, they’ll get ready with you and your family.

What is a bridesmaid’s role in a wedding?

Bridesmaids are close friends or family members of the bride. They help with planning and the wedding. A bridesmaid helps the maid of honor with wedding planning and helps the bride when needed. But there’s more to being a bridesmaid. They help plan and execute the bride’s dream wedding. Bridesmaids are responsible for: Supporting the bride emotionally throughout the wedding planning and ceremony. Assisting the Maid of Honor with the bridal shower and bachelorette party. Attending all pre-wedding events.Running errands during wedding planning, at pre-ceremony events, and on the day of the wedding. Keeping a record of gifts at the bridal shower. Working with the bride and Maid of Honor to address, seal, and stamp bridal shower thank-you cards. Making items for the wedding, such as DIY favors, place cards, etc. Purchasing their own gowns and accessories. Bridesmaids help the bride with her wedding preparations. They attend fittings, help with hair and makeup, and assist with decorating. They also walk down the aisle and stand in the receiving line. Organizing wedding gifts and keeping them safe. Attending to wedding guests and encouraging dancing. Staying at the reception until it ends and helping with packing gifts, gathering centerpieces, etc. Groomsmen are the groom’s closest family and friends. They’re there to support him as he watches his bride walk down the aisle. The bride, her maid of honor, and her bridesmaids usually plan the wedding. Groomsmen still have responsibilities. They still play a big part in the wedding and support the Best Man.

What is the order of walking at a wedding?

Everyone walks in a different order. The bride and groom lead the way, followed by the maid of honor and best man, the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the parents of the bride and groom, the grandparents of the bride and groom, and then the officiant. The rest of the guests will follow. Dogs steal the show at weddings! If you have a dog in your ceremony, make sure someone is in charge of walking it in and holding it during the ceremony. You never know how a dog will behave, so having someone to walk them out without disrupting the ceremony is important.

Kids: They’ll steal the show, but it’s always a toss up. Have a family member at the altar to encourage them to come meet you. Practice so they know to go to that person. Another tip: Expect the unexpected.

Do bridesmaids walk down the aisle alone?

Bridesmaids walk down the aisle alone or in pairs. They stand up front, on the left, with the first bridesmaid farthest from the bride. The bridesmaids can form a line diagonally to get a good view of the couple.

A guide to help you figure out who walks down the aisle and when. Once you know the order of events for your wedding ceremony, think about how everyone will enter and take their places. The wedding party’s entrance marks the start of the ceremony, so it’s important to get the order right. The wedding processional is one of the most emotional moments of a couple’s special day. From the moment the bride walks down the aisle, everyone is watching. It’s the moment the bride and groom take their vows and start their new life together.

  • I truly feel for this bride. When my mom got married she did a destination wedding in las Vegas and didn’t even invite me. Then when i attempted to plan my own wedding she wanted no part of it. I ended up eloping with my husband because the stress of family not wanting to have any part on ether side was really starting to get too both of us. Eloping was so much easier and stress free. Do I wish I had that special day with my mom and both families? Yes, of course I do. Do I wish I had that moment or that dress? Yes! But I would rather sacrifice one day in order to have many more peaceful future ones with the love of my life and less strife between loved ones.

  • I think we should also give props to Brandon for being the one to notice that this was more than just about dresses. Sometimes we can tell what is wrong but we don’t have the tools or knowledge to get to the complete bottom of it and that is why we rely on our elders to give us that guidance. It’s also why this bride is so hurt by her mom not being there, cause she was looking to have her opinion too cause she values it.

  • I wanted all of my bridesmaids in thr same dress, same color, but I made sure they all felt good in the dress. The dress we all picked everyone cried over bc they all looked so gorgeous. We were blessed to find a dress that complimented everyone’s body type and a color that looked good on everyone. It was important to me that they felt good in the dress

  • The best decision I made for my wedding was sending my bridesmaids and maid of honour (all sisters who live out of town) the basic colours of the wedding and telling them to each find a dress that that particular person could re-wear. There were five dresses on five women, all of them different, and it was perfect! They looked stunning, everyone, and none of them looked out of place. They also, as it was around Christmas, carried simple hurricane candle holders with one candle each. It was like a fairytale.

  • Yellow is an appallingly hard color to wear. It takes a particular complexion to carry off yellow, and not many people have it. My mother wasn’t really interested in helping me plan anything. She was still processing the grief of my dad passing away, so I pretty much did it by myself. I wish she had been more supportive, but in the end, I paid for my dress, so I picked what I wanted, even though she wasn’t crazy about it. I looked at a lot of bridesmaids dresses to find one I felt would be flattering to both my bridesmaids, and that they could wear again. My sister wore her dress later for several voice recitals, and received many compliments on it. Lori’s been doing this job long enough to know when something’s up.

  • My brides maids dresses were hand made. I told them go find a pattern you like, keeping in mind my 8 yr old niece (Jr. brides maid) would be wearing the same dress and that’s what we’ll go with. They were happy with them. We did the same when my maid of honor got married. The only difference between the MOH and Bridemaid were the flowers.

  • These are AWESOME bridesmaids. I had two bridesmaids and one of them is the sweetest person you’d ever meet and the other… she was my maid of honor. She insulted my ring calling it cheap, didn’t give a speech (the other one did), always tried to make everything about her, and just wasn’t a good friend to begin with. I regret making her my maid of honor. She never deserved it.

  • I do feel bad for these bridesmaids, as much pain she may be feeling towards her mom she can not project it like this to her friends. She has an incredibly supportive group of friends there that are willing to give her their all and she throws it back in their faces and it must have been incredibly embarrassing for them. Hoping this is just a very stressed out bride and she is nicer to them outside of the wedding planning

  • So she purposefully chooses a color that she knows is difficult to work with and that all the bridesmaids collectively hate, and then proceeds to call every yellow dress awful and makes fun of the color…? Something seems fishy. Especially when she said “That’s why you stuck me in that horrible dress” she was DEFINITELY projecting. She is just a rude person. No excuses.

  • I really don’t think she meant to attack them, but in the moment she was projecting a lot of her anger and frustration at them because they didn’t look like her idea of perfect, so she felt out of control. She’s human, but I am glad she was called out. I hope her day went well and she felt supported, she seems to have great friends that support her.

  • There’s no excuse to treat your friends badly. If any woman in my family had been spoken to the way this bride spoke to her friends, we’d be out of that bridesmaid dress and out the door. No one should ever accept being treated disrespectfully unless he/she has actively invited it with bad behavior of their own. Maybe the mother didn’t want to be involved because she’s not a fan of her daughter’s nasty personality.

  • These girls all needed this, this appointment was about far more than finding a bridesmaid dress. Lori should be a psychologist, she’s so amazing! If I ever get the chance to get married, my dream is to find my dress at this store, even though it would mean flying to the other side of the world to do it! ♥️♥️

  • I can’t imagine not having been involved in my daughter’s wedding. Something else must be going on. The mom doesn’t like the fiancé, or has medical issues, or maybe the bride just doesn’t get along with her mom. If she had that attitude with her mom, I can see why. Or, maybe the bride learned that attitude from her mom.

  • So sold this story initially that her friends don’t support her but come to find out she throwing jealous shade and nasty comment at them smh…Most friends you grow up with aren’t with you as an adult- shes blessed but I feel her lingering cynicism may push some of them away.smh A better question is why doesn’t her mom want to be involved? That’s a whole lot of bad blood and unresolved issues between them. Smh

  • I strongly suggest you choose being kind to yourself, so hopefully you would know how to treat your future husband and others. Remember, God is still allowing you have wise friends, who managed to deal with your unacceptable behavior.🙏 Why would you want them to support something tasteless to them? Remember, they are not choosing the color of your dress. Be flexible and enjoy simplicity. God bless your marriage ❤️ 🙏

  • This isn’t complicated. She just hurt her friends back because they were acting selfish and ridiculous. In my mind they’re the first offenders. It’s up to the bride what color she wants, it may not be your personal favorite color. Though I have to admit the bridesmaid dresses that guy pulled out were very ugly. I’ve seen way better styles at David’s Bridal

  • Bride here… it’s all scripted. Me and my friends are closer than ever still and I’ve been married 11 years tomorrow with a beautiful baby girl. Trust me, none of this was real. The dresses were planted and things I said were out of fun with laughs from my bridesmaids but were turned into something hateful. Reality TV is anything but real. When this came out we were all shocked and absolutely appalled at how they edited to make drama where it wasn’t. 10 hours of filming and they cut and pasted 99% of this to create what they wanted.

  • Her mother seeing her daughter getting married reminds her of her fading youth and good looks. Her mom is very attractive and I do believe she doesnt want to be reminded that time is marching on for all of us. That may be the reason for her lack of participation in the wedding planning. Avoidance or she hates the groom.

  • I really like this team working there, I know it’s TV a lot of times and TV absolutely prioritizes drama the most because drama brings in money and ratings… but instead of focusing in on that weakness and exploiting it for their show, they instead talked it out and got to the true heart of the problem: the bride hurting from her mom not giving a horse’s ass about her or her wedding. I have a mom who I can say loves me too, but… like this bride’s mom, she’s kept herself emotionally disconnected from me, she doesn’t even call to ask me how I’m doing. Whenever I call her, she starts going in about her own problems… and like I care, I do, but for her it’s like one problem after another, she’s never satisfied with her life.

  • Laurie you are such an understanding human being who brings the light into anywhere you go. You are the salt of the earth and a beautiful child of the most high God Glory to God Bless the Lord Jesus Christ… I learn so much from you regarding compassion, understanding, and most of all Patience. I love how you love everybody God Bless you and your family always Warrior Princess….

  • Bullies are usually hurting somewhere, about something, and have never been heard truly about whatever it is, and they lash out. Lori did an outstanding job finding out what is causing all the hostility. I cried when her friend who got married was crying..my heart hurt for the bride to be. I’m 60 and 3 children, but will most likely never get to see a child married. One of my twin sons died 2 years ago, 6 weeks before their 16th birthday. Last month was their 18th birthday but one in spirit and one on earth now. The earth twin is Asberger’s and shows no interest in a partner though he is bright and fine other than the emotions/facial cues, social and body language cues don’t register easily for him at all. My oldest now daughter disowned her whole family 5 years ago and no reason, though everyone fully supported her being trans. Our family isn’t like that….we love no matter what and she knows that. So this mother having nothing to do with her daughter’s wedding is angering to me. I would LOVE to be able to see any of my children marry and be part of whatever they want me to be. But the son who died was the one out of my three that was most likely to be married and have kids, so grandchildren are out for me, too. Yet this mother has that chance and wastes it. It’s not always fair, is it? If that gal ever wants a mama bear stand-in for any ‘wisdom of years’, I’d happily be that for her.

  • Am I the only one who thinks she was not just rude to her friends, but to the poor associate who’s trying to find every possible dress and she is not only insulting her friends but every dress he brings. You don’t have to like the designs but you could have some respect toward the establishment you’re shopping in. I personally would have kicked her out.

  • If this was filmed as it happened, Brandon is totally responsible for starting it off. Study HIS reaction to “yellow”. He all but makes a throw-up face, asking everyone else “do y’all want YELLOW?” Now, that’s the sequence represented in the clip. Maybe that segment evolved differently, but the consultant must respect the bride’s wishes and not ask advice from the entourage. Opinions should be heard but not solicited from bridesmaids.

  • From the start, it’s obviously staged. If it were real, there is no way that a consultant would question, “Everybody okay with yellow?” – he she would simply pull dresses in yellow or that come in yellow. And, importantly, the consultant should ask about the bridal gown and to see pictures of (the bride wearing) it so that the BMs’ dresses will coordinate, as well as about desired length and style.

  • I feel like both parties was in the wrong. Now the bride was worse but I also feel like the bridesmaids needed to stop complaining about the color the bride wanted cause it’s not their damn wedding and they need to be supportive of the bride and that means wear the color she wants. But yeah the bride was being super nasty despite the reasoning. It was wrong of her. And then when the brides maids wear the yellow colored dresses she still insults the dresses and even them at times.

  • Anybody else skeptical about the mama trauma business? What i am seeing is someone who can’t feel good about herself unless she puts everybody else down. Classic narcissistic behaviour. I would guess one of her favourite phrases, after shredding someone else’s confidence, is “I’m just being honest”, the motto of those who enjoy being cruel to others.

  • No matter what you have going on you shouldn’t be talking like that like damn. If I even started talking like that to my friends they would be sitting my butt down for a chat like no we don’t talk like that what the hell is going on with you. Like this is completely out of pocket and I’d tell her we aren’t friends if she’s talking to me like this. My friends would also call me out for projecting like this one is. Also side note, the bridesmaid dresses are not for you lol stop making your friends wear ugly colors and dresses, that’s a huge waste of money for everyone.

  • Sounds like you have a narcissistic mother who is so jealous of all the attention you get that she does everything in her petty power to make you feel unloved by her. And she doesn’t love you, narcissists only love themselves, my mother was like that as well. As soon as the attention is not on them, it’s war.

  • Please do not excuse bad behaviour. Yellow is a hard colour to get behind. Anyone would have their initial reservations of wearing a yellow dress. Then the bridesmaids all seemed to warm to the idea and she behaved more like fool. No excuses for this bride. Her behaviour was trash. When you excuse people’s bad behaviour they behave the same way later on in other situations.

  • Why everyone crying, it a colour. It literally one day and a couple of photos no one will look at again, apart from the bride and groom. I think people look good in any colour just need to find right shade and style of dress you like so your confident in it. No one ever like their bridesmaids dress as normally it not in there’s preferred style or colour. But can’t lie, the floral does also give me grandma vibes, but I don’t know what her wedding theme was so 🤷‍♀️. But bride was being hella rude. And it was an unnecessary comment.

  • The bride is foul. I would not be asked to be bridesmaid, because I would not even acknowledge her in passing. Where has the INSANE tradition of Americans come from, that bridesmaids pay for their dresses but the bride picks? I can’t think of anywhere in the world that is done. The bride buys the bridesmaids dresses. She wants to control the look, she pays. Traditionally, the bridesmaids also get a small token gift from the bride, as a gift to remember. Like a tennis bracelet, or a necklace. Then the attitude with the bridesmaids… The interesting thing is, is the mother not there because of the bride is unpleasant and she genuinely dislikes her OR is the bride a Little Me, of the mother?

  • Putting a bunch of white women in yellow is literally just as bad as those granny curtain dresses, so idk what she’s on. I’d even call the granny curtain dresses better, bc at least the colors complemented their skin tones. Fr, I’ve yet to see a non-black woman who looks good in yellow. Idk why it is, but it just is.
