Traditionally, nuns did not wear wedding dresses when taking their vows, instead opting for a religious habit that symbolized their commitment to a life of faith and service. The habit was modest and simple, representing a nun’s renunciation of sexual or romantic relationships. Nuns are often referred to as “Brides of Christ” due to their deep spiritual connection with Jesus, which is rooted in the belief that nuns enter into a special relationship with Christ, similar to a marriage.
Catholic nuns take three strict vows: poverty, chastity, and obedience. They also wear wedding rings as a sign of their commitment to God and the church. Rings can be worn by both men and women, so it’s not just for nuns. Priests also wear rings as a sign of their commitment to the church.
The tradition of wearing wedding dresses faded after the Second Vatican Council, but it is still present today. When a Handmaid of the Precious Blood or any nun makes her profession of the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, it is considered a wedding. However, the practice of having new nuns wear a wedding dress has been discontinued since the first nun took her vows.
In summary, the traditional attire of nuns, including a tunic, veil, wimple, scapular, and habit, represents their commitment to a life of devotion to serving God and illustrating their hierarchy within their religious order. The tradition of wearing wedding dresses has evolved over time, with some nuns still wearing wedding rings as a symbol of their commitment to God and the church.

Why do girls wear a veil for communion?
Communion veils are rich in religious symbolism. The veil is associated with innocence, purity, and respect for the sacraments. Some girls wear bows, headbands, or tiaras instead of a veil. A 2008 study found that 98-99% of girls still prefer the communion veil.
There are many styles of communion veils. In the past, communion veils were like wedding veils. They were full veils with a tiara-like headpiece. The most popular look was the miniature bride. Modern veils don’t cover as much of a girl’s face. Some girls wear their veil at the back of their head. Today, there are many choices in communion fashions. One thing has stayed the same. Communion dresses are always elegant.

What happens when a nun takes her vows?
Catholic nuns and sisters don’t marry or have romantic relationships. This vow frees her from human relationships so that she can love God and people. A nun or sister who takes a vow of chastity says that her life is not about sex and that it does not define her. The vow of chastity is how nuns and sisters give themselves to God. This vow is shown through her relationship with her religious community and her ministry. Being celibate means a woman religious can go wherever God and her community send her. Having children and a spouse makes this more challenging. Jesus said, “Those who love me will obey my teaching.” “My Father will love them, and we will live with them.” John 14:23.
A Catholic nun or sister will obey her superiors according to her group’s rules. A nun or sister takes the vow of obedience to imitate Jesus Christ.
What 3 vows do nuns take?

She loves and serves others.
Chastity (consecrated celibacy). A woman religious responds to God’s love with her whole life. When a woman religious falls in love with Jesus, this affects the rest of her life. She chooses Jesus as her main relationship, so she lives a celibate life. The vow of celibacy is more than just not getting married.
Can you be a nun if you’re not a virgin?
The 1970 decree says candidates must be unmarried and chaste. The 1970 document only implied that candidates must be virgins. On July 4, 2018, the Vatican said that keeping one’s body in perfect continence or practicing chastity is not a requirement for admission to consecration. The statement was published in response to bishops asking for more information because more women are interested in the vocation. The new clause lets bishops decide if a candidate is suitable for her vocation. The US Association of Consecrated Virgins said the new guidance is shocking and disappointing. The Church has always said that a woman must be a virgin to become a consecrated virgin.

I wanted to be a Nun when I was a teenager.i picked out the order of Little Sisters of the Poor, their Mother House is located in Paris France. I didn’t tell my Mother until I was much older. Mainly because my parents couldn’t pay for me to go and study in France.Nowcim to old in 67 and married. But Sister Elizabeth Seaton was a widow when she started the Carmelite Order. So who’s to say that maybe one day when I’m widowed I can go and live the life I had always wanted. God loves us and he would accept anyone that wanted to follow him.
I am just captivated by the beauty of this event. It was wonderful to see the absolute satisfied smile on this young ladies face. I googled her and found out that the two little girls following her or her little twin sisters. She has two brothers that have both entered religious life at Saint Benedict’s & one was an alter server for this ceremony. 💙

Wow! I wonder wss what would happen at a ceremony to becoming a Sister! This was beautiful! I thought about when I was in my twenties! I ask my mother about being a nun? She said no you don’t know that much about the religion! I said that is what they’re here for, they will teach me what I don’t know! I don’t need to know everything about Catholic religion they will teach me. My mother said no no they want you with the knowledge of religion. I was so sad, I cried! It still makes me cry to think of it today! God bless you Sister’s and ones studying to a Sister!
I’ve watched this article so many times…so beautiful! Wish I was younger for reason being the desire of being a nun has never left me. Iam a widow. My grandmother who passed away before I was born was a nun for 25 years. Wished I knew her. Pray for me sisters. Some orders consider my age. It’s me having to give up the world. Needed courage. God bless
Many years ago there was a series here in Australia called ‘The brides of Christ’ I loved it …and i remember the scene where the girls walked down the aisle much like this, wearing wedding dresses and veils ( aka brides of christ) so I was overjoyed to find this ….its not a common thing to witness
I can’t believe how hateful some people in the comments are. To insinuate a woman is being brainwashed when she does something YOU don’t like is disgusting and frankly misogynistic. I am a woman, I will never be a nun, but I grew up around nuns and know how they work. This lady is marrying the Lord in the same way any woman would marry a man. She is going to dedicate her life to helping people, which yes, she could do without becoming a nun, but she wants to. So let her! Seriously. She isn’t harming anyone or herself. She can leave the church if she wants too. She isn’t bothering you, so leave her alone. But no, you must come in here and spread hate and disgusting messages because you disagree. Get over yourself. The world does not revolve around your opinion. I’m not saying you can’t disagree, go right ahead, but being an ass is just unnecessary. I’m fucking 18 and I understand that.
A beautiful ceremony. However I, as a Roman Catholic, still think it strange that sisters and nuns are referred to as “married” to Christ. We don’t consider priests as “married ” so why is it that way for women? Also why are ordained men called father but ordained women are just called sister not mother?
Luke 8:19-21: Then His Mother and His brothers came to Him but were unable to join Him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your Mother and Your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My Mother and My brothers are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
This was so truly beautiful. However, if this website is to be monetized, I would hope that the administrators realize that the sudden and glaring interruption of this sacred service with an extremely sexual, sexist, and hedonistic ad for Saks is not the kind of disgusting message the St. Benedict Center would want to send, or even be associated with. If website administrators cannot manage the kind of ads used in conjunction with their religious services, it might be a good idea to just demonetize the website entirely.
You have read about me I have taken political asylum in this country I’ve been worried for five years No one has helped me yet I need help so much brother I am not a beggar I’m worried about my situation I have no one in this country I’m alone Help me for god’s sake I’m very worried Can I leave this country? Because I am very worried in this country Here again you do me a favor Brother, I really need four things No food + I have no clothes + I don’t have a house to live in Need some cooking utensils You can’t even think How can I survive in such a situation? I have nothing help me brother god bless you
Oh this is the way they used to do it, the lady taking vows would dress as to be married to be a spouse of Christ, now I am not as sure if its done as often outside the traditional orders, which this indeed appears to have the charism of. from a distance her face is round and like that of St Gianna Biretta Molla, the pro life saint, in a word though this is a small but very ornate and nice chapel, and its often in most orders when final vows are taken they also get a wedding ring as a sign of them being married to the mystical body of the church, just like priests are married to the bride of Christ the Church, and celibite, though that itself has been brought to question in the last few weeks before this day 1/24/2020, it has also caught the attention of great defenders of the faith Cardnal Robert Sarah, and Pope Emeritus Bennedict the 16th to write a book on the tradition and elaborate on the practice.
No, I don’t agree. Leaving the world behind is not achieved by becoming making these vows. The world is still deeply rooted in many of us, along with the other two enemies from Satan, the flesh and sin. However, Christ, as He grows in a believer, by a constant partaking of Him in His Word, by abiding in Him, then one is freed from the entanglements of the world and then can say “he has left the world behind” I recommend to all Christ’s seekers to obtain the ministry books available at BFA.ORG or online at ministrybooks.org These have brought me into a deeper fellowship with our dear Beloved Bridegroom and prepares us all to be His Ready Bride.
Well, I’ll tell you. I was going to be a Presbyterian Minister. I’ve been studying your Rosary. Here is what I learned. 1,000,000,000 Catholics say the Rosary once a week, that’s 50 Hail Mary’s times all of the above, for about at least, 500,000,000 x 52 weeks a year, times let’s say, 100 years, is conservatively, 250,000,000,000,000(at least-the fewest count possible for the entire world population of Catholics over 100 years). Any Results? A big bunch of results??? In the Last 100 years, have any of these prayers ever said, Hail Jesus, Full of Grace, wonderous Son of Our Loving God, who is the source of all of our power, and our life, through whom all our Blessing flow? On any given day? 1 – 2 – 5 – 100, ??????? Over the last 100 years, the average praise that goes to Mary, who He left at age 9 or 10 to teach and preach, becomes 1: 250,000,000,000. I don’t care how close we are to the rapture of the Church. Start over at square 1. All prayers, Start with, “Hail Jesus,” until the praise count, goes to God’s Son of Man and God’s Glory in heaven, instead of to some woman that gave Him Birth; and the tally is reversed into 250,000,000,000,000 Hail Jesus’, to 1 Hail Mary’.
Exodus 6:23 Aaron (Priest) took to himself Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Nahshon, as wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Aaron was a prophet, high priest, and the elder brother of Moses in the Abrahamic religions. Knowledge of Aaron, along with his brother Moses, comes exclusively from religious texts, such as the Bible Exodus 6:25 Eleazar, (Priest) Aaron’s son, took for himself one of the daughters of Putiel as wife; and she bore him Phinehas. im very disappointed that i have these marriage vows impedement against me because i would of liked to become a nun. my ex husband and father of our four kids said i cant even talk to him unless im a size six. since i heard of his cheating with a “young girl” i wished she could take my marriage vows like she said she wanted and my kids too to be step mom and have more, ive been thinking about wishing i could of entered a convent.
Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, St. Bernadette were married in this manner as brides of Christ .The Carmelites.and other religious catholic orders of nuns may continue to have this beautiful custom, but if the religious order has been very much modernized they may have dismissed it along with much of a richer tradition in order to be ” more relevant and open ” to the world..lol.
That must be a very powerful and emotional experience since she is giving up everything a woman desires and that this wedding dress represents. Wow. But, I think that ‘slave’ is not a good word, servant ok, but slavery is not a good thing and not true of our relationship with Mary or Jesus. Every day we exercise free will incuding in our devotions. We must always be free in our spiritual relationships to be conscious and committed in our choices.
Never understood why Christians spent money elaborately in Christ’s name. Christ was an average Jewish man. He’d be horrified by Cathedrals, grandiose Churches, Vatican City, priceless artwork, hung bloody on a Cross. Christ calls the humble, devoted; Serves the congregation. God’s intent was to benefit the poor, suffering, not self righteous clergy. To be kind, smart, moral, not to scare others to convert or burn in hell. God’s words, The First Testament, does not ask such things. Heretics, zealots, traitors, bastardized God’s Will his intentions.

Completely unbiblical, nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to look to Mary or pray to her ! Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life I strongly urge Catholics to read the Bible for themselves. I was raised Catholic but when I discovered the truth from Gods word I realized the depth of deception there

Guess you’ll have to talk to your priest for an explanation.
Bridegroom All Christians are the bride of Christ including men. It’s not a relationship like on the Earth it’s a spiritual relationship. There is no such thing as a nun in the Bible, the word doesn’t exist except a man that was named Nun. Nun was a man from the Tribe of Ephraim, grandson of Ammihud, son of Elishama and father of Joshua, 1 Chronicles 7:26-27). LOL. Look it up in the Bible. This is unscriptural. You Catholics need to Read and follow the Bible, your Tradition is man-made and dangerous!
