Women’s personal grooming preferences vary, with 80% of women preferring a man to trim or maintain their pubic hair, 15% preferring to completely remove all hair, and 5% preferring a hairy situation. Both men and women tend to groom their body hair for attractiveness, making it a hypothesis that men and women will rate relatively hairless bodies as more sexually attractive. In a study of 1,560 English-speaking 18- to 25-year-olds, 69.4% reported participating in grooming behavior, with a similar amount of younger women.
Men have more options and flexibility when it comes to choosing a unique style, but they also have more flexibility. In a 2013 survey, 21.1% of women reported that their pubic grooming was related to partner preference, while 84.4% reported grooming theirs, while only 16% never do. Younger women are significantly more likely to groom than older women.
Bacteriologists have long noted the ability of pubic hair to trap sweat, dirt, and bacteria, preventing potential infection-causing bacteria from reaching the genital area. The ass/asshole is simple, except for the hole, so when shaved, shave starting from the pucker and stroke away. Remember not to push down on the razor, as this results in a rough ride.
Most men prefer to keep their jewels tidy and groomed, but opinions don’t matter. A recent study found that men who shave their balls have considerably more sex than those who don’t. A quick trim, whether with scissors or an electric shaver, can tame unruly pubic hair without making it look like too much effort has been put into it.

Does pubic hair increase arousal?
As predicted, men rated pubic hairlessness as the most arousing, especially those with high sociosexuality scores. However, men who were more comfortable with their partner’s sterility were more aroused by the most expansive female pubic hair patterns.
Why is pubic hair arousing?
Pheromones come from sweat glands. The pubic region has many more glands than other areas of the body. Pubic hair may trap pheromones, making us more attractive to potential sex partners. Pubic hair grows differently in different people. Some people have more pubic hair, and others have less. Sometimes, extreme hair growth is a sign of an underlying hormonal condition.
What percentage of guys shave their pubic hair?
What is intimate grooming? Pubic hair trimming or shaving is intimate grooming. A survey found that about half of men groom their pubes. If you like it, you’re not alone. What are your options for intimate grooming? Should you shave? Should you trim? What are the most popular manscaping styles? We’ve got the answers. Trimming vs. Shave. Shaving means using a razor to remove hair close to the skin. Trimming uses a razor with a guard to cut hair shorter. Some men prefer a clean shave, others an all-over trim, and some a mix of the two. A survey by AYTM found that 45.75% of men prefer a clean shave above the penis, while 47.25% trim the area, leaving most of the hair. The choice is yours. Now for the nitty-gritty of how to groom your pubic area:
Do girls like guys with pubic hair?
Most women like some grooming. Only 10 to 20 percent prefer guys with a completely unkempt bush. This means that going wild below the waist is not the default look. It’s easier, but you’re not guaranteed success. People today expect more from men’s grooming. There are many reasons, but the most important is that you have to groom. If you’re still not convinced, know that 20% of women won’t date a guy with a bad pubic hair situation. Think about it. Women in rural areas like a bush. The 80 to 90 percent figure comes from national U.S. polls. Most of those polls were specific to certain regions. They revealed some surprising facts. A woman’s preference for pubic hair varies by location. It’s not about where they live, but how many people live there.
Do girls prefer if guys shave down there?
That’s right. About 12-16% of women want you to shave it all. They want you smooth and clean down there. This number matches the number of women who like it unkempt. Some like a bush, some don’t.
You can’t please everyone. It’s better to know this now and be prepared than to be surprised after a date. That’s our philosophy.
Trimmed. If you like safe bets, trim your pubes, not shave them. Women who don’t fit in the other categories fit into this one. Two-thirds of women in the U.S. want you to trim your pubes, but not go completely bare. You can get a trimmer, use the longest guard, and call it good. If you’re not already at this length, you need to get caught up.
Do most girls shave down there?
Most women remove some or all of their pubic hair. Pubic hair removal can cause injuries and require surgery. Pubic hair removal can cause serious infections. Pubic hair removal may also increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections like herpes and HPV. Hair removal can make it easier for bacteria to enter the body.
Where should a woman never shave?
If you’ve noticed unwanted hairs, think twice before shaving. 1) Eyebrows. Shaving your eyebrows used to be more acceptable. … #2) Upper lip and chin. Not every woman has the right hair. … #3) Neck. … #4) Arms. … #5) Stomach. Many women shave daily. It’s quick, cheap, and you can do it in the shower before work. Some parts of our bodies should never be shaved. If you see some hairs you don’t want and reach for the razor, think twice.
#1) Eyebrows. People used to shave their eyebrows more. People realized it looks unnatural and choppy. Your eyebrows will grow back stubby and dark, giving you five o’clock shadows in places you don’t want them. There are better ways to remove eyebrow hair, like threading, tweezing, and waxing. #2) Upper lip and chin. Not every woman has the right hair. Many of us have to deal with dark hairs on our chins and lips. Nothing is more embarrassing than seeing a hair on your chin in the mirror. Shaving your face makes your face grow hair. You’re only dealing with a few hairs. But shaving makes hairs multiply.

Do German men shave their pubes?
German men, especially those between 18 and 35, prefer to be hairless. They shave their breasts, armpits, genitals, and legs and arms regularly. The statistics portal staista.de says that intimate shaving is more popular than breast shaving. Is a smooth upper body still the ideal for men? In the 1990s, a hairy chest and body hair were seen as masculine. But this changed a lot since the end of the last century. Today’s men care about body styling. This means shaved or trimmed body hair. Most German men today are more concerned with styling and proper care than they were 20 years ago. Now, shaving for men is a way of life and an important part of regular care. In the past, it was mainly sports that mattered, but now it is mainly about looks and hygiene. Women also like a well-groomed man with shaved or trimmed body hair. Most women find hair on the back, shoulders, and under the arms repulsive. But opinions differ about the breast. Women over 50 still find a hairy chest attractive. The same is true of the genital area. Younger women prefer smooth skin. Women don’t mind hair on their legs and arms.

In this video I’m going over something that you guys have asked me a lot about…manscaping. I’m reading an article called “Do …
I was always curious about this, but I never asked anybody because I knew that some of it was a matter of taste. I believe that all lovers should let each others’ health have top position in our preferences, “Live, Love, and Laugh” I always appreciate what it takes for people to talk about this kind of stuff.. You got the stuff. I’m not regular about trimming, and when I do, it’s for my own comfort, because I don’t have anyone else who would object to how I do it……close as I can, but not as close as I would prefer. From what you say in this vid., It’s probably close enough for the majority in all landscapes.
Hi Courtney 👋 I just wanted to say that I really enjoy perusal your articles 📹 and content. Thank you for bringing up this topic because for some reason in society it’s seen as taboo. I’ve been manscaping for years and have had full Brazilian laser pubic hair removal treatment with absolutely no regrets! You’re 💯% right…women really do appreciate a man who puts effort into keeping their nether region clean 😊
Hey Courtney, I live in the midwest where we have seasons. Sometimes all seasons in the same week. For most of my life I trim and shave close in the sweaty summer and just a light buzz cut with hedge trimmers in the winter. I have encouraged my wife and old girlfriends with the same idea. I think it’s OK for a lady to grow out a little when snow is on the ground.
I really respect you Courtney! I appreciate your opinions & your openness to discuss all the things that you do & all the time that you take as well to always really truly give the best advice that you can, Your thoughtfulness really shoes. You’re my number one go to girl for an honest opinion from the female perspective. I’ve seen so many other woman giving such bad advice over the years & I want to say, thank you so much for what you do. You’re the best!
70’s = Everyone all natural 80’s = Everyone completely shaved and waxed everywhere 90’s = Men (the 80’s was a lot of work. Can we like..comprimse with a trim?) 00’s = Women (well if you guys are gonna just trim then your gonna get a little less make up…occasional leg stubble and occasional hairy arm pits) 10’s = Well we’re still trimming. You gals are still trimmin. At this rate we’ll look the same 20’s = Your right. There’s no such thing as gender anymore. Soo…. are we still…. Yes! Trim it! 30’s = All Natural is back. Because 70% of men aren’t getting any anyways lmao.
Hi Courtney, love your articles! I had 6 sessions of laser hair removal on pelvic area and balls. I really love the bald look because its a very clean, super smooth, hygienic and sexy look. I only go back once a year for laser maintenance and no more shaving or razor burn is a bonus! No more hair growth is awesome as well. Love all your articles, keep up the great work!
Totally agree with the cleanliness part. One of the most important factors that unfortunately a lot miss. I knew a dude who had a horrible yeast infection, he wasn’t attractive either. Yet he found some somewhat attractive younger girl that he dated and she would give him felacio even with his nasty smelly yeast infection. Unbelievable, vile beyond anything I can’t sum up in words, if he could get a woman being the douche he was, I don’t understand why being the nice guy gets your turned down. Woman chase these types and it blows my mind 😂😂🤮 Thanks again Courtney 💯
On today’s episode, Courtney travels far South and journeys through dangerous forests, battling wilderbeasts, gorillas (and the occasional mole rat) with her trusty blades of steel. She will have to tackle the odorous double-nut mountain, avoiding mysterious giant cracks that can suddenly appear (a mystery that nobody has gotten to the bottom of) As always, if anyone can do it, Courtney can. Stay tuned for another hair-raising adventure!
Courtney as always, you handle every topic you post with flair, honesty, and a clarity that makes it easy to listen to your perspective. This particular topic is no less valuable and informative. You cover it in a way that is PG. Well done! Even though this post is from a year ago, it is still a subject that is worth reviewing. Like you said everybody is different and has different viewpoints on this subject. Women do so much to “look presentable” as my Mom used to say. It’s not too much to ask men to at least review how they look “below the belt.” Thanks as always for your advice I find it very helpful. Suffice it to say that even though I insist on proper hygiene, I will be making some changes for my new woman. The takeaway here for guys is, just keep it clean. If that means trimming things a little to satisfy and amp the bedroom energy who wouldn’t want to give her that?
Personally in my younger 20’s I was all about showing off every muscle definition I had so I shaved it all. But now I have became so much hairier like more surface area. So I trim everything with a gaurd in the shower. I cut in where needed and I even trim armpit with a gaurd. I do clean shave neck cause that gets itchy. But I don’t let any areas of hair be out of my control. I like staying clean but a grown masculine adult.
Very good advise and I agree with it. It’s a personal thing If you like a clean cut patch of lawn you just keep mowing and if you like to leave it over grown your partner has to live with it. Just note how many partners you go through in life. You can’t please them all and with shaving there is an itch factor that last for days.
Hair tends trap dirt. And being down there, the pubic hair rarely being exposed to air just make for a smelly-dirty situation. Clean shaven for me & my woman, easier to stay clean for longer periods of time. Added bonus of not having to deal with that awkward break/intermission of removing random strands from the mouth during the deed.
I have to say this was an interesting article @CourtneyRyan. I didn’t expect the percentage of men in the US that are manscaping to be so high. I thought it would be more of a generational thing with more young men doing it than older men. I keep it clean down there but have never shaved or trimmed. My partner never complained about anything down there. I would be interested to know if its a deal breaker for women.
Clean and hygienic is one thing…. looking like the last turkey in the shop is something entirely different. Men and women are different it is typically feminine for females to remove their body hair. Masculinity traditionally espouses some degree of body hair. Although I think most women prefer men to have hair but still be hygienic.
I love that you mentioned Manscaped! I swear by their products and use most of them. I prefer to keep my lower area bare tile, including the nads. I have a long beard now, but I keep that carefully manscaped too. I prefer tile on others too lol. I just don’t see how anyone in 2023 wouldn’t want their partner to be well groomed. It’s a sign you care and take care of yourself. I don’t do pubic hair, nose hair, or any other out of place hair. As far as the beard goes, I use the Manscaped grooming kit with special beard shampoo, conditioner, and beard oil, as well as trimmers, etc. I trim the top of my beard and never let it run wild and I own a hot comb that gets plenty of use to straighten my beard which I’d highly recommend. I love your articles Courtney! I have a lot of respect for you.
Courtney I love your articles I am getting hooked and getting caught up . I find this very interesting. I am in my late 50s. I have been divorced approximately 15 years. both my wife then and myself in the late 80s would shave ourselves smooth. I have maintained smooth ever since. And for me as a guy I can be rough and use the bar of soap and do it daily and it’s a matter of seconds. People who have seen me do it have been horrified! Most people I have had relationships with if not all were completely smooth. There is no friction it’s clean, and I think very pretty on the female. I can’t remember the last time I was with somebody who was trimmed or natural.
Thank you Courtney! It’s about time, that women start think for themselves and don’t let trends a.k.a. the grudged “old white rich men” – those, who run industries, dictate what to think, wear or do with our bodies! Even up to the year 2000 you as a man would be totally ridiculed (by women!) if you didn’t have chest hair or would shave your body, especially legs – as a grown up man! Lack of testosterone or unmanly behaviour was bullied back then. And that was a good thing!
Interesting. I’m older so I’ve seen everything in and out of style. Variety is fun. I assume it’s the same for women. The more urban a person is I think the more influenced they are by social pressure and shallow things and materialism and likely more demanding that everything including pubes conform to whatever is currently expected by the mob,and the opposite is true the more rural you live. So the study makes sense and frankly rural living women are going to be far more interested in a masculine man that can provide and protect (with little regard to body and facial hair) vs highly urban dwellers who are far more accepting of feminized me (and demanding that their body hair conforms). Personally, I like it all on a woman and like it when it changes from are to bushy, with a preference that 80%+ of the time that it remain in the tightly to medium trim area with the most sensitive areas remaining smooth to allow for maximum stimulation. Like I said, I’m guessing most women feel the same.
Ohh lord the comments that are gonna be on this article 😂. I can’t believe guys are sending you DMs about pubic hair. God bless you Courtney. I have heard from many women in articles and ones i met that they prefer shaved men down there or at least keep it managed. I agree that it’s best ask the woman you are with what she likes not just with this topic but with sex or the relationship in general. It makes things easier. I appreciate you being comfortable to talk about this. Have a great day lol 🌻
In today’s day and age, with all of the existing emphasis on grooming (hair, beards, etc), I cannot believe that any ‘modern’ male would ignore any type of pubic hair maintenance – at least in an urban environment. Similarly, I’ve scarcely met a woman over the past 15 years that has outright ignored the same.
Well funny thing is that I am in relationship we don’t see each other a lot only maybe 1-2 a month on weekends that’s it we have a full schedule so not much time can be spent cause one is in the City and I Amin the country-in-rural area. So very different both don’t drive but we accept that we both have limits. So really when comes down it I wouldn’t need Menscapped but I will say I will have to keep in mind if I should get one at some point and again another great article Courtney Ryan.
I once shaved my nads, and was shocked to discover it caused me to get blisters and odor. Pubic hair’s function is to wick away moisture and lubricate the area to prevent irritation and fungal growth. If you do shave and you sweat a lot, use cotton underwear to keep it dryer. People like what they’re used to. When you first start dating someone, they might not like pubic hair because it reminds them of their dad or other weird older guys. Once they get used to it, though, they’ll start PREFERRING it. That is, because they’ll start associating it with the man (or woman) they love.
I’ve been shaving since college and it all started with a class I took in Care and Athletic Prevention. The prof, instructed all males to shave for we needed to learn how to tape a body part in sports. I did notice it was much easier putting on clothing for sports and street wear and been shaving and trimming down south since. However, I only shave down my entire body once a week and I even apply lotion after showering for it feels and looks clean. Yep, part of my clean ritual. 💪🏋️♂️
I’m not a fan of clean shaving down below – tried it a couple of times – the itchy feeling is with you for weeks, noone sees what you’ve done most of the time, but you are reminded of that every single step and every minute of your everyday life. 15 minutes of shaving – 2 weeks of regretting your decision. Plus the all-clean look doesn’t suit a man aesthetically imo. Just cutting em short with scissors brings a lot better results – the “unmentionables” get better looking and more pleasant to touch, with no itchy feelings whatsoever. But it is quite the bother to do it with scissors every time. So aye, what Courtney said, a once-over with a guarded trimmer – and you’re golden.
I am entirely hairy, belly, torso, everything. Even my arse is hairy (this actually bothers me, but I cannot reach myself behind haha). I can’t imagine myself groom hairs down south. I don’t imagine grooming myself entirely. I saw many of my coleagues at school cloakroom and I was always cringing, why the hell they like look a barbie doll, they were grooming themselves to the last hair. I have also never met a girl, so I don’t know, as long there is no need, I don’t try it. That doesn’t mean I am not clean lol.
I live in Hawaii and I always shave. I like to keep it cool down there and it’s less itchy. I used to trim, but when I was with my ex, she preferred it shaven and she convinced me to shave. Plus, I heard that if you trim or shave, it makes our package appear bigger. However, you have to keep up with the maintenance of shaving, but it’s well worth it in the end, especially when you’re hooking up with other girls.
I live with back and chest hair and it is an upkeep plus I have to consider keeping my bathroom clean because I do entertain women every now and then. I’ve tried waxing my back in a salon and it was incredibly painful, so I use a back razor to keep it smooth and trimmed. I think pubic hair pales in comparison to grooming your back and chest hair as there’s far more to trim.
I’m a fully shaved guy because I’m disgusted by pubic hair, even my own. But I think for most guys this doesn’t really matter. I’ve been with scores of women and many say they love to do that special thing 😉 They almost never do. So guys…shave it, trim it, do nothing. It doesn’t matter cause they’ll probably never even see it anyway.
I’m a bisexual female, but the preference that I have in common with either gender, is that I’m one of those girls who like her partner to be au natural. My thinking is this: we’re all supposed to be what we were born to be, even regarding body and pubic hair. so I’m one of the small minority of Suburban Women, that happens to like the completely natural look, and natural scent. I do think that Hygiene is very important, for general health of a given individual, but for me…Men and Women that don’t shave or groom anything, to be attractive to me, It allows me to visually see the true person that I’m in a relationship, because whether we like to admit it or not, Guys, and Gals. we all, to some extent, look at the overall appearance of a prospective partner. They have to at least appear to take care of themselves by caring about hygiene, and being active, and eating well/healthy. regardless of their body type. And fellow ladies, I’m not even a fan of make up, though makeup is not a deal breaker, but I would prefer to see the real you under all those beauty products. And Guys, As long as you don’t reek of B.O. a little natural musk is attractive to me. like I said, I prefer that someone shows an interest in their own personal health, and hygiene, but you do not need any beauty products, or fancy Perfume / Cologne, and none of you have to remove a single follicle of hair to be attractive IMO. now I realize that I’m the rare exception, and not the norm, in regard to preferences on pubes or no pubes, or any hair for that matter.
Trimming that area is not more hygienic. In fact, for females it is the exact opposite. Pubic hair serves to help prevent infection, and actually reduces how much females sweat in that area. That means for females it is actually less hygienic to remove the hair. On men pubic hair does not seem to have as much purpose. However, removing it can cause problems such a rash or itch. If you are thinking only about medical reasons of should you remove it, the answer is NO. However, I do agree that you should take your partners likes and dislikes into consideration. My personal preference is that while I like the shaved look, I want my partner to be healthy, so I put her health above my preference.
Staying groomed has been the standard for a long time now. Keeping neat and clean is the norm. Not all the way but short and well kept. I think keeping some shorter hair helps a woman “get to where she wants to go” when she is on top. The shorter hair helps stimulate her when she finds her rhythm. I hope I put that delicately enough.
Guys, if you care about what a woman thinks about any part of your body, you’re not a man. You’re a simp. I’m not saying be a slob, but I’m saying worry about your health and well being for YOU, not for others. It is women’s job to worry about what you think of her. Not the other way around! As for me, sometimes I’m hairy, sometimes I trim. But always for myself and my different moods. Nothing to do with whether she likes it or not.
