Brida, overcome with grief and anger, kills her partner Cnut for his involvement in Ragnar’s death. She swears to the gods that Æthelwold killed Ragnar, and Brida orders Jackdaw to follow spies. Cnut discovers Ragnar dead and blames Uhtred for his brother’s death. Brida and Uhtred lead a Danish conquest, but it ends in defeat. Uhtred reveals Cnut orchestrated Ragnar’s death, and Brida kills him in rage.
In the Netflix series The Last Kingdom, Brida (Emily Cox) holds a grudge against Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), who had two sons. In season four, Brida found out about Cnut’s plan to kill Ragnar and discovered he had manipulated Aethelwold (Harry McEntire). She killed her partner Cnut after learning that he had colluded in the murder of her true love, Ragnar.

Brida’s suffering began in childhood when she became pregnant by her Viking partner Cnut, whom she killed when she learned he had plotted the murder of her last love, Ragnar. In season five, Brida kills Cnut after learning from Uhtred that he was responsible for Ragnar’s death.
Brida’s anger and belief in the righteous path of Dane might distance her from Uhtred, whom she saw as her enemy after they fought on opposite sides at the Battle of Tettenhall. After the war is called off, Brida attacks Uhtred but refuses to kill Brida or her child.
When Ragnar was killed by Æthelwold, Brida blamed Uhtred for failing to protect his brother. She later spearheaded a Danish conquest with her men. When Ragnar died, Brida was the best placed person to lead the Danes, but she chose to give up the chance by handing over her men to Cnut.
In the end, Storri (Emily Cox) tells Uhtred and Brida that who murdered Ragnar must be killed with a sword.

Cnut said he had nothing to do with the plan, but Uhtred found out he was involved. In season four, he told Brida that Cnut, who was her lover, had planned to kill Ragnar. Cnut got his comeuppance in the fourth episode of season four.

(Episode 4.1) Hæsten told Cnut and Brida that he met with Eardwulf and told him they were leaving for Ireland. They’ll attack Mercia while they’re gone. They’ll sail to the estuary before dawn and keep the boats apart to avoid scouts. When they reach Mercia, they’ll attack Aegelesburg and kill King Edward. Brida says they’ll kill Æthelred too. Wessex will help Mercia. They’ll lure Edward out and fight on their terms, taking the country. Hæsten asks how Cnut tamed Brida. He says he treated her well and loved her. (Episode 4.1) Brida, Hæsten, and Cnut lead their army into Tetsworth, the Kingdom of Mercia. They’ll rest there and attack at first light. Get the Mercians to sleep. Hæsten asks how far Aegelesburg is. Close enough to catch them off guard. Brida answers. Hæsten plans to leave. He doesn’t want war; he wants women and silver. Brida tells Hæsten he’ll miss a big army gathering. Edward must defend his sister and mother. Aethelred’s death will lead to a quick response. They’ll ride into Mercia and force a battle. Cnut calls Cnut and Esgar. He wants them to go with Hæsten until the campaign is over. Hæsten wonders how Cnut got Brida to follow him. She says they made a blood bond. Hæsten says he knows Brida is pregnant with Cnut’s child. He can tell by her breasts. Brida threatens to cut off Hæsten’s balls and feed them to him if he tells Cnut. Cnut calls Brida over as he rallies the men. He tells them to rest because they’ll attack at dawn and burn Mercia. (Episode 4.2)

Why does King Sweyn want Canute dead?
In his later years, King Sweyn thought about succession. He might step down for a few years before he died or make sure that when he died, the kingdom would be in good hands. Some nobles were trying to gain power by supporting Canute or Harald. He plotted to kill his son Canute so Harald could be king. Sweyn was a great strategist. He knew it was unlikely he could take London. He sent Canute to fight in London, hoping he would die. Canute was just a teenager, not suited for war. Ragnar knew the king wanted him out of the way. However, this made Ragnar even more protective of him. Askeladd later realized this made Canute’s emotional maturity worse. Canute was held hostage by Thorkell after they lost the battle of London. He wanted to use him for a negotiation, but didn’t know he was useless to the king. Thorkell let him go, and Askeladd’s group rescued him. He didn’t want to negotiate with him, but use him politically. He wanted to make him king and use him as his advisor. Up to this point, Canute is just a puppet. Canute spent time with the Askeladd mercenaries and learned about himself. First, his relationship with Thorfinn, who hated him and had a different attitude than a prince would. He was put in situations where he had to speak up, and it wasn’t by accident. Askeladd wanted him to change, and he forced those situations. Seeing how dependent he was on Ragnar, he decided to make the next move.
Why did Brida turn evil?

Who kills Beocca?
Beocca is one of the most lovable characters in The Last Kingdom. His death at the hands of Whitgar is a heartbreaking moment in the series. Beocca is a father figure to Uhtred. He gives good advice and always thinks things through. Beocca never does anything wrong and always puts others first. He is a selfless character. When he dies to save Young Uhtred, it seems wrong. It was fitting he died, but it was sad he died while evil men survived. The death of Aethelred is not one of the saddest moments in The Last Kingdom, even if he tries to redeem himself. Aethelred is a bad person who abuses his wife, Aethelflaed. He is greedy and disrespectful. He seems to accept this before he dies, which is a small step towards redemption, but it doesn’t erase the pain he caused. Aldhelm starts as Aethelred’s advisor, but turns against him after being ordered to kill Aethelflaed. After leaving Aethelred, Aldhelm becomes Aethelflaed’s loyal servant and Uhtred’s ally. He tries to be loyal to Aethelstan when he becomes king, but Aethelstan kills him. Aldhelm was honest and loyal most of his life. It’s sad he died the way he did.

Who did Ragnar truly love?
Both Ragnar and Lagertha have had other lovers. Aslaug ended their marriage. But at the end, it was clear that Ragnar and Lagertha loved each other the most. They loved each other so much that they were soulmates. In episode 3 of season 1, titled “Dispossessed,” Ragnar and Lagertha always have each other’s backs. In the episode, Svein comes looking for Ragnar when he’s away in England, and Lagertha must protect their farm. Ragnar returns and then prepares to set sail again.
