📹 Father of the Bride Surprises Her and Sings, “I loved her first”
We asked my dad to sing at our wedding and he kept the song a secret for over 2 years! It was a moment we will never forget …
On my 40th birthday my husband called my dad and told him I had now belonged to him longer than my dad. My dad replied, “She will ALWAYS be mine!” Even as he was dying of Alzheimers, and he couldn’t remember my name, his face lit up every time I saw him. Enjoy your Daddys as long as you can. He’s gone now and I feel like I lost the only person on this earth who loved me, no matter what, unconditionally.
In 1982, my wife Linda and I welcomed our first born, Tracy, to our world. She turned out to be the sweetest, most caring, smartest, most beautiful girl two parents could ask for. I feel the same way you do about your lovely daughter. May I add, as a professional singer/songwriter, you are a fabulous singer/pianist. You made your daughter’s wonderful day very special. Congratulations, Sir!
I’ve been married for 43 years. My dad walked me down the aisle crying the entire time. He was the best dad I could have asked. My strongest support, always so proud of my accomplishments. He’s been gone almost 8 years, I miss him yet I know he is with me. Thank you Dad, for being a hard working, kind, gentle man who loved the simple things in life. I was blessed with the best❤️
I adored my dad- he and my mother were married for over 50 years before his death- they both were incredible, godly, fun loving people. When I got married 57 years ago he walked me to the car after the reception and just held onto me- he loved me and each of my siblings deeply- he loved the guy I married to❤️
I wasn’t so lucky to have a father that showed his love. He was an alcoholic and was very drunk at my wedding. It was embarrassing say the least. It’s been 47 years now, my Dad has passed and I’ll never understand why he was the way he was. Treasure this wonderful father you have, he is a blessing. Congratulations on your marriage.
I never shared such a relationship with my mum and dad. But not because they never loved us. There are 10 of us kids and family was strong and we loved our parents with all our hearts as they were good people. What we missed in love being expressed we all rectified when we began our own families. I’m the kissy monster in my family. They never know when I’m going to grab them. The words I love you I ensure they hear on a regular basis daily. We don’t always learn everything from our parents but the things we do learn we may need to build on. Cheers Australia
I’m planning to do this song for my daughter’s wedding soon. I have 3 daughters and was supposed to do it for the first wedding and I chickened out. The second wedding I was sick and decided not to even try. Now the last daughter is getting married and I HAVE to get it done. Was thinking about having all three girls and their husbands dance while I performed it. Don’t know how I’ll get through it. This guy did an awesome e job. SOLID! 🙏🏻❤️
Absolutely beautiful! I was one of six girls and the first to get married. It was very hard on him togive his first daughter away in marriage.. People said my father had the heart of a mother. He loved his children immensely. I miss him every day. Every child should be blessed with a father who loves like this.
I’m in my 60’s and have been married for many years. My Dad has been gone for almost 20 years. This song was so emotional and I cried through all of it. I miss you Dad. Madeline, Thank You for sharing this and taking me back in time. Your Dad has an amazing voice and broke many hearts singing this song. Congratulations on your marriage!
This is the most 🕊 precious heartfelt ♥️ gift. I honestly feel the words just flow through my soul. Your fathers’ voice engulfs my being. Our first born married this past October, shes my first of five. My husband had a bit of breakdown the weekend of her Wedding, he didn’t make rehearsal or the rehearsal dinner on our daughter’s Wedding eve. Then Sunday morning came, he was not with it so we all prepared and I thought I would have to walk her down the aisle. 2 hours before the wedding my husband calls her as my daughter and I are driving to the church….he says” Im back, I’m ok, I will walk you down the aisle. Love is Powerful~♡~ Their wedding was 10/15/2023 *Moments later: My father in law passed away 12/26/2023 at his funeral 😔 I had landslide played. The songs intertwined, What a beautiful wonderful coincidence ~ Blessing 🙌 Kindly, Darlene 🌹
Oh, how I wish my daughter could have that moment someday…..we lost her dad when she was only 4….She and her2 brothers were the focus of my life completely after that, and they have grown into amazing adults, and I’m so proud of them all……but loss changes so much that there is no way to get back…..and you always wonder what it would be like, had he not had to leave us so suddenly….In many ways it has made us all stronger….but there are always moments like this one that are longed for, from time to time.
Beautiful! I played at my daughter’s wedding. She chose the songs she wanted me to sing, but I fully intended to surprise her with this one at the reception. I couldn’t bring myself to do it, in the end, because I can’t sing this song all the way through without breaking down. Fathers know. Much respect to this father who made it all the way through. Beautiful!
I have a daughter and son and I live them both very much!! A daughter’s first love should always be her father because he sets the example of what she should expect in her husband ❤️ Just like a son’s first love is his mother because she will teach him what a woman expects…just love and hug them because they grow up so fast!!
I’m in tears as I listen to this, it’s 12:38am and my princess is sleeping right next to my office desk. I don’t know you or your dad or your family or friends and this song still song – perusal your dad sing this to you: brings me to tears, because I loved my daughter first. Your dad has incredible stage presence. If anything this song makes me think about my wife as it’s important for every man to remember that we aren’t her first love, that her dad will always be her first love.
I was my Dad’s first daughter, and I know how much he loved me. He is no longer here with me, but in spirit & soul I know he is looking down at me. When the song” You Light up my life* came out by Debbie Boone, he would call me to the room and say to me ” Do you see how that light shines”?Well that is what you do to me. You light up my life.Love you Dad.
I loved this song !! The deep love a father has for his daughter is very clear here. As a father of a daughter, I can fully relate to the feelings expressed here. I cried while listening the song and immediately shared it with my daughter and told her that the song reflects how I feel for her. She lives far away from me now and I really miss her. Thank you Madeline for sharing this with us !!
It’s been over 50 yrs. since my Dad walked me down the aisle and he cried. Two years later he passed away, very suddenly & unexpectedly. I remember it like it was yesterday! My Dad was also a musician but never sang. Congratulations to the Bride & Groom and Thank You to her Dad for reminding me a Dads’ Love is forever! Beautiful song. Your daughter and I are very blessed to have/had Fathers like you!
Wow!! I’m crying. This is so beautiful. And everyone looks amazing!! As a mother of three adult children – your father must of practiced a million times to be able to sing it without crying through the lyrics. I know, I would need to. Because the LOVE of a child runs deep in our heart. Congratulations to the bride & groom. Lots of unlimited abundance of Love & blessings – to you both & your family, friends, guides. Love & Light.💖 Namaste. 🙏 Jeannette
I am fortunate enough to have had a close, loving relationship w my daddy and even though he didn’t sing at our reception he did walk me down the aisle. It was very hard on him and I both when I moved to Florida after my husband and I got back to my parents house after our honeymoon at a local resort. I made it 4 years, until my daughter was born, but then I just had to get moved back around my family. Fast forward many years and since 2016 I have had the privilege of being caregiver for my 86 year old daddy, who is living w 2 types of dementia 😔. I am cherishing my time I have left with him❤️.
My sweet Daddy was very present in my childhood. Sadly, 3 years ago he passed away before he could walk me down the aisle. He would have done something like this. He LOVED to sing & harmonize he was so good at it. I know one day I will see him again. I long for the Paradise earth when pain, sadness & death will be no more.💛🙏🏼. This was a beautiful tribute to his daughter.💜
What an amazing father you have and what a beautiful voice! I didn’t get married until I was 51 but I was, and still am 8 years later, to not only have my father walk me down the aisle but perform the ceremony as well (retired minister). Not only that but my husband’s father, who we sadly list just 2 years later, sang for our first dance. It was an old country song, Walk Through This World With Me, which was his and his late wife’s song. He was accompanied by George Jones the original singer kind of like a duet as he was afraid he’d cry 🙂. Best part was that my husband didn’t know that dad and I had been planning it for months Dad also walked him down the aisle to a perfect father son song by Phil Collins. So glad we were able to have him be such a great part of our special day. You and I are so very lucky to have these wonderful men in our lives ❤️. Congratulations on your beautiful day, you looked amazingly beautiful ❤️
Your father loves you ! I also sang to my daughter at her wedding. I chose ‘our dance’ to sing My Girl to my daughter. This was always ‘our song’, for daddy to sing. Your husband is lucky to have you, and I’m sure he knows it. Good Fathers always want the man that marries their daughter to be ‘somewhat’ like themselves, in loving, providing, and taking care of our little girls. Best wishes to you, and your husband.
This made my tears drip down my cheeks, that’s so special. My dad sang to me Daddy’s Girl he wrote his song for me. My dad is reaching his 80th Birthday I’m trying to get flashmob surprise tips and came across this. Congrats and Best wishes Keep God at the center and you can make it through anything together. My folks have been married 58 blessed years.
This melted my heart – CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!! Best wishes for healthy long fulfilled life together!! Beautifully done dad!!!! Made me tear up!! My dads been gone 4 years now, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss him!! Cherish every moment, soak it up, it all goes by way too fast!!! Godspeed to all…..
I love this so much. This was my father daughter dance song as well. My dad passed away exactly 5 months to the day from my wedding. I miss him so much and am so thankful and blessed he could walk me down the aisle and dance with me one last time. I love you and miss you so much dad 😢❤️. This is absolutely beautiful ❤️ Congrats to the newlyweds🥰🥂🍾
I really love and needed to see/hear this today. Not one, but both songs. I was mommy and daddy to my only child. The transition from being her world (and she mine) has been very difficult and I’m so happy she found a good man that loves her unconditionally every day. This article is lovely and the love between this beautiful bride and her daddy is awesome. Blessings for a wonderful marriage for these two. 💕💕💕
What a truly beautiful song … you are blessed to have your father sing to you on your special day ….. my late dad couldn’t sing … ( bless his soul 🪦⚘ ) … but he gave me away and shed quite a few silent tears that day, he didn’t think that I noticed, but I did ….. Congrats you 2, wishing you all the happiness in the world, be blessed 💜🍾🍷🍷💜
My daughter was married last October. There was some thought of me singing while they had they’re first dance. This is the song I would have chosen, but due to health reasons I ended up not singing at all. When it came time for me to dance with her, this is the song she chose for us. I barely made it through the dance without crying, I could never have sang it and made it. This guy did a great job.

I am not even the Bride and I wept. Girl, you have the best father in the world. I just lost my own a few months ago after enduring 31 years of abuse I was finally able to forgive him and your father singing to you like that touched me so deeply that I am not able to describe it fully through my blurry tears right now. I want to wish you and your husband the best God has to give you. I am currently on my 2nd Divorce after 18 years of mostly silence and lack of communication, but in good news, I am back in college to finish my General IT AAS in Information Technology.
