Does Kill Bill have a happy ending?
Good ending. The ending is awesome. Beatrix kills Bill with a move she learned from her and Bill’s teacher. She can live with her daughter. The final scene shows her driving while the credits roll. She is given different names, including Mommy, which I found surprising. However, this ending is more complex than the simple synopsis suggests. She cries in the bathroom, thanks someone, and then stops crying. She sits with her daughter on the bed. Why is she crying and saying thank you? Another complication is that the end credit scene shows a dash through the names of everyone Beatrix intended to kill. Bill’s name isn’t crossed out. I think the idea that killing people after five steps didn’t work, but Bill fell over, convincing her he was dead. This explains why Bill drinks a lot during their final fight. Why would Bill, a trained assassin, drink in front of another assassin who wants to kill him? He might have given up on trying to kill the Bride and just wanted answers and closure. He doesn’t kill her, even though he has many chances. Bill wants her to come to him so he can get the answers he seeks, see their daughter, and then leave her life if they cannot be reconciled. Beatrix thanks Bill for keeping their daughter safe. She may also be crying because she killed someone she loved. Her daughter was growing up without a mother, and now she is without a father.
Conclusion. This is one of the best sequels I’ve ever seen. This is one of my top 10 sequels. Is it better than the original? I don’t think so. It’s a great movie, but not quite as good as the original. I’d give it an 8 or 9/10. This is a great movie. Worth watching and thinking about. What did you think of the movie?
Why does the Bride cry at the end of Kill Bill?

Elle Driver and Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) are O-Ren Ishi’s lawyer, confidante, and second lieutenant. Nikki Green, Vernita’s daughter, could have grown up looking to avenge her mother’s death and been trained by Bill. If Bill is still alive, he might have formed a new team with Elle, Sophie, and Nikki. We don’t know if he would have sought revenge against The Bride later on. People have been talking about Kill Bill 3 for years. Tarantino has shared what the story could have been about. Kill Bill 3 would focus on Nikki Green. The Bride told her that if she still felt “raw about it” when she grew up, she would be waiting. Nikki would have been raised by Sofie Fatale, who inherited Bill’s money. Kill Bill 3 would see Nikki’s revenge against The Bride and B.B. If Bill never died, he could return, but as an unseen presence. It’s unlikely Tarantino would choose to recast the role. If Bill is alive, his “death” scene with Beatrix is just a play. The Bride can’t fulfill her plan, and she and B.B. are still in danger. Bill can’t be trusted, and he’ll seek revenge.

Pai Mei was a kind but violent man. After seeing Beatrix’s determination in her training, he came to like her and cared for her. He threw her food on the ground in a fit of rage and then offered her his own food afterwards. He told her that eating rice with your hands instead of using chopsticks was like how a dog or animal would eat. He was harsh, but he wanted Beatrix to not degrade herself or lower her standards because of hunger. Pai Mei wanted to build Beatrix’s character. Pai Mei teaches his students martial arts and mental strength. He also showed his love for Beatrix by teaching her the Five-Point-Palm Exploding Heart Technique, which he had never taught anyone before. However, Beatrix was fierce and trusted him, so he taught her this technique, which helped her defeat Bill. Before the Massacre at Two Pines, Bill told Beatrix about Pai Mei and his Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. In 1003 in China, Pai Mei was on a road when a Shaolin monk met him. Pai Mei nodded at the monk, who didn’t return the gesture. We don’t know why the monk insulted Pai Mei, but Pai Mei found him at the Shaolin Temple. He demanded the head abbot kill himself, but the abbot refused. Pai Mei killed all 60 monks in the temple.

I would say the plans to make a Part 3 all but confirmed this Theory… It would be a very pulp villain thing for Bill to come back, and then having his daughter finally kill him in the third part of the trilogy would’ve elevated the story to semi-mythic proportions… Bill out of boredom more than anything adopts Copperhead’s daughter and trains her… revenge, revenge, revenge, rinse, repeat… but unfortunately David Carradine “has left the building” so 🤷🏼♂️
The more I think about this the more I think it is not so much a theory as pretty explicitly what happened and is what Tarintino intended. I don’t think the end credits can be overlooked. But there’s actually loads of forshadowing, beyond even what this article expalins. For one thing it’s not certain the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique is even real. The only time we hear about it is over a camp fire story where Bill says the technique is a legend (as in maybe not strictly true) and Pai Mei is over 1000 years old. Pai Mei himself never mentions the technique. Also note that throughout both movies but Kill Bill 2 in particular the idea of lying, subterfuge or exaggeration is constantly present. For example the Bride wasn’t killed at a wedding, Budd didn’t sell his sword, there weren’t really 88 bodyguards and on and on. In fact there’s so much that Bill has to come out with a pretty hokey bit about having a truth serum. This is all forshadowing the Beatrix and Bill agreeing to a convenient lie. There’s more as well but this comment is too long anyway.
The movie script says he’s dead. It said and I quote, Bill turns his back to her… And walks five steps in the opposite direction…with each step his heart swells, on the fifth… IT BURST… WE HEAR A SOUND, like a tire blowout… He falls to the beach…dead. She unsheaths her Hanzo sword. Blood lies in a pool, by Bill’s mouth.
He’s dead. Blood was spewing out of his mouth when she laid the final blow on him. It’s clear she did something to him and that he wasn’t just acting. Besides, he may not have killed her daughter after all. But she was running away from him, and from her murderous lifestyle and she was about to be married. Bill stalked her, and took that Life Away from Her by killing her fiance and her in-laws. Even if her daughter was still alive, the bride wants complete freedom from bill. When she said she couldn’t believe Bill would do something like this to her, and Bill basically told her he would and he did, this became more than just her daughter. This became a matter of Bill dictating her freedom and her life, and killing anyone whom he does not see fit to his vision. If she didn’t kill Bill, Bill would just come back to haunt her. And maybe her daughter wouldn’t be so lucky the next time. So it had to be done
Makes no sense. They didn´t show her going to the bathroom and taking a shit but she made it a lot in pai mei trainning. If it´s a special move foretold before it would made sense that the audience wouldn´t know that she aquired this move. Also she had the truth serum in the talk so it means she couldn´t lie by the worldbuilding rules.
It’s interesting that the main counter argument against Bill being alive is that he has some blood coming out his mouth. Despite the movie being about a woman coming back from getting shot in the head at point blank range and having her brains splattered across the floor. To say nothing of the fact that it features men standing on swords and women punching their way out of coffins and mythical kung fu moves. But sure, blood from mouth. 100% fatal.
It is a good theory. Yes, it’s believable. This is a famous director’s technique actually: we see not 1 but 2 or even 3 different stories at the same time. The meaning depends on the interpretations of the viewers. The denying comments is the way people don’t accept it emotionally, not rationally. They just don’t like Bill’s character.

I always thought when the bride said “Thank You.” At the end she was thanking God. Not Bill. Bill tried to killl her and sent her into a coma for years. It did look like play action a little when he fell dead. But right before that he swipes a sword right over the brides head and she only dodged it leaning backward on her chair with crazy reflexes. This kinda makes me think that Bill wasn’t playing around. He didn’t kill her with the tranquilizer because he wanted time to monologue about his comic books. This is the love of his life and he wanted to catch up and have closer before he killed her. The Bride doesn’t always kill but when it comes to Bill it seems she would not want to leave any possibility of him taking away her daughter again. Also I don’t think she is still in love with him. I think Bill still loves her. And I think she has a respect for Bill. But she’s done with him after all he put her through. I thought the play acting thing with the daughter was more of showing that she had inherited some of her parents killer instinct either by blood or the way she was raised. “It’s my arm now, it belongs to me.” – Pai Mei The arm that: 1. Threw the knife at Vernita Green. 2. Removed the top of O-ren’s head. 3. Punched her way out of Budd’s Texas Funeral. 4. Removed Elle’s eye. 5. Delivered the 5 Point Palm Exploding Heart technique to Bill. Thus was the poetic justice for Pai Mei, that his best student avenged his death from the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.
This scene is so powerful. Beatrix was such a kind and humble person, and she genuinely loved him, like an old crush. Even though she’s finally getting the revenge she wanted, she still cries for him. So much pain she had to endure, caused this man, and even then her heart still seems to hurt for him. The audience is probably so happy at this point, but she’s sad. I think the actress did an amazing job portraying such a powerful mixture of emotions…her expressions, her eyes, her tone… Pain caused by someone you love is probably the worst type of emotional pain.
I noticed something that’s not really mentioned about this scene. Beatrix leaves with Bill’s Hanzo sword, not her own. The very sword that caused Hattori Hanzo to swear a blood oath never to make another sword again. Hanzo broke that oath to make 1 last sword, the Bride’s sword. Beatrix reclaimed Hanzo’s honor when she reclaimed Bill’s sword. Another neat thing I noticed from these movies are the symbols engraved on the blades of Bill’s and Beatrix’s blades. Bill has a Hannya engraved on his, an evil spirit. Beatrix has a Komainu engraved on hers, which wards off evil spirits.
I love how quickly this is over. At this point in the movie, you’re emotionally drained. After the 50 minute bloodbath in Kill Bill Vol 1 and all the other protracted fights, you expect this to drag on a long, long, LONG time. But no, it comes and goes so fast you’d miss it if you looked away for 20 seconds, and when it’s done you simultaneously appreciate how perfect it was and want it to go on longer. Then, because they set up this whole “take 7 steps and then die” thing, you have enough time for some truly satisfying closure in that final conversation between them. I’m not one of those Tarantino fans that think he can do no wrong, and I have a lot of issues with some of his movies… but Kill Bill 1 and 2 were masterpieces.
Disturbing thing is, this is sort of possible. Okay, your heart doesn’t explode, but hitting just the right spot at just the right time can cause something called Commotio Cordis, where the electrical signal that regulates your heart’s rhythm gets interrupted. Your heart goes into Ventricular Fibrillation where it wobbles uselessly, then you faint, then you die as your heart goes into cardiac arrest. Scary shit.
Interesting to note, indeed, that even after receiving that fatal blow, Bill still responds with kindness and tenderness in his voice. It’s as if the realization that his prodigy and partner had mastered the secret of that killing technique really elevated her to the level only reserved for true masters. It fostered his love for her even more.
I’ve always loved how the whole Pai Mei/tutelage arc comes full circle with her using the technique even Bill was never entrusted with. Showing that she was the only student he ever fully respected. Like he might have respected the technical competency of Bill and the other vipers after they completed his program (other than Elle obviously), but Beatrix Kiddo was his first student that had a true warrior spirit. I feel like the moment Pai Mei would have deemed her as worthy would have been when her arms were beyond wrecked, but she still used the chopsticks. I bet all of her viper peers and even Bill just went hungry until their hands recovered when they reached a similar level of pain/debilitation.
Something interesting I noticed is the fact that Bill asks exactly what Beatrix asks when he arrived at the chapel “How do I look?” and I kinda thought that was important and kinda sealed the deal on the story, that it had come full circle. At the start Beatrix was below Bill in that she was still loyal to him, but in this scene the rolls reverse and she has the high ground against him, to where he almost looks up to her and admits she’s now bested him and he is below her. Just a thought
Comments on movie clips really just be like: “This scene is so incredibly powerful and emotional. You really have to respect the cinematic genius behind this film. The flaming hot cheeto on the table symbolizes the fact that he’s so intimidating on the outside but inside he’s just so fragile. A hollow shell that gets more intense everytime you bite into it, everytime you go deeper into his mind and experiences. I just really love how at the same time they included the dog in the corner, licking his balls. Really shows how much nobody cares about our protagonist, while also symbolizing that he needs to clean up his act. He’s been through so much and has lost so many on his journey. Which is why they have the bird sounds in the background. Not because they’re standing outside in the morning, but to remind us that he’s constantly hearing the voices of the past in his head. If you can look closely there’s at least blade of grass wilting. Our MC is obviously fading away from reality. He’s ready to be born again as a new person. That’s why if you really listen closely, you can hear the sound of a tesla model S on the highway nearby. Letting us know that our hero is entering a new age… Also on his left testi-“
If you think about it he raised BB quite well. Bill wanted to show her that it could have worked out. At the end their were both killers anyway. I think the same way Bb killed emilio and immediately new what she had done, so did Bill and so did Beatrix after killing him. None of them knew what would happen to them after. This movie is damn masterpiece. Seen it more that 20 times and counting.
this is probably my favourite scene from any movie, ever. I think this is the most mature movie about relationships I’ve ever seen. Tarantino did his homage to kung fu movies right – classic kung fu movies only used the fighting as metaphors for explorations of real human issues. And this movie does a break up like no other.
Kiddo is quite the heart breaker, both figuratively and literally! Anyways, Bill bowed out gracefully, in the most noble and dignified manner. Even David Carradine would agree with me on that (as Bill died in a more respectable and conventional manner). Any ways, Tarantino knows how to weave together quite the compelling, layered, witty and fascinating story. America’s most legendary and unorthodox filmmaker (as he is one of the Founding Fathers of the non-linear style of filmmaking)! Anyways, how sweetly ironic that Bill was killed by the protégé of both him and his mentor, and in the most esoteric fashion. I wonder if room service has found his body yet!
This scene resume the two movies with a “I love you but look what you bring to yourself and our comrades just for me wanting a good life for our child.” Because in the end the only thing she really wanted is to have her baby on a safe place and raise her away from all the horrible things in her world.
I love these movies. It was a great time in my life I was a submariner I saw this movie in Pearl Harbor well part one that is.. I’m glad I got to see them in the theater. Also when I saw a part one all I saw was a katana sword on the poster and my name is also bill so I figured I’d give it a shot… totally blew my mind.
The way she shakes her head when she says “Of course he did” and how he walks and falls over similarly to how he did when they were playing with BB when Beatrix first arrived at the backyard always leads me to believe that he didn’t really die and she never really knew the technique. I feel as if he acknowledged that the life of an assassin wouldn’t be the best for BB, so he was letting them both go. The way she says thank you in the bathroom, as well as how Dave Carradine’s name is not crossed out in the credits support this, I think.
So I just learnt that she was not driven by hate to come this far. She came to bill for love, for her baby. I mean, that’s what mothers do for their childrens. They will walk through hell just to get their baby back. And hell she was crying when bill dying, means there was love and respect left in her heart
She has guilt of not tellibg Bill that his master taught her what he didn’t teach him because that would probably hurt his ego, thus she answered “I don’t know. Maybe I’m a bad person.” Damn. She really loved Bill and still loves him to that moment. Edit: my favorite movie of all time. All my password is based on this movie from MySpace to LinkedIn and I never changed it since lol
This whole fight is brilliant because of the first movie. In part one we see her just slaughtering a whole gang with her sword doing all manner of insane things. Here she instantly realizes when it comes to fighting with a sword she’s completely outmatched by Bill and can’t beat him. She also knows Bill knows everything she knows and will also outmatched her so she’s forced to use the one move Bill doesn’t know or have a counter for. The fact she had to use her deadliest attack as her only option shows you just how dangerous Bill is. If she hadn’t been taught that move she wouldn’t have stood a chance against him.
I grew up sheltered so I never saw Kill Bill or other violent movies. But my older brother and I always had a good sense of imagination from more PG and PG-13 media. But I remember years ago when I was in my early teens, I told my brother of that I had this awesome idea for a move in a fight scene. So you’d have these two katana wielders, person 1 and person 2. And P1 disarms P2 so that P2 only has their sheath. P1 then takes their chance to strike P2, but P2 dodges and catches their stab with their empty sheath. My brother and a few friends kinda teased me for the idea, but I think that’s mostly because I was so overly hyped by how cool it was, that they just wanted to annoy me. BUT, my at age 20, my gf and I watched through both Kill Bills while spending the night together. And I was ecstatic when I saw this scene. Needless to say, I’m never going to let this go.

I just realized, pai mei didn’t teach beatrix the five point palm exploding heart technique because she was his best student, but because her arm has belonged to him since he and her met so it would beg to reason that of course pai mei’s arm knows the technique. mind blown. she was his best student tho.
Interesting how there’s so much emotional work up to this and the actual fight last less than ten seconds of screen time. I personally was expecting more when I first watched it. And when Bill said “Pia Mia taught you the exploding heart technique?” I thought she would say “no, I figured it out on my own because he refused to teach me”.
She was a monster. What a horrible fate that poor little girl ended up with her. Just because she was the biological mother doesn’t mean she was any better suited to raise that child. She slaughtered how many people in the name of vengeance? 100s? I didn’t get the feeling that any of them continued as assassins after what they did to Beatrix. The deadly viper gang fell apart and went their own ways. I think that little girl became some form of redemption for Bill, and by all accounts he turned out to be a pretty good father. Look at how he doted on that child, and she seemed happy. He even taught her why it was bad to kill. And, he didn’t lie to her when she asked him why mommy was angry at him. He didn’t lie to his daughter.
There have been a small number of actors over the years who can make anything fantastic (Max von Sydow and Peter O’Toole come to mind) and, as good as they are, neither Uma nor David were that good. Scenes like this really drive home just how much good writing and good direction can empower an actor. There’s an Eastern philosophy that says “Love” and “Hate” are actually the same emotion, they’re just pointed in opposite directions. These two have such powerful feelings and you can feel every twist as it goes from love to hate to love. Not many movies can pull something like that off.
from my POV, Kiddo’s attacks are like reflexes. she sees attack, she reacts instantly, without ever thinking. her body becoming after all these years perfect killing machine and Five point palm? it too is kind of reflex, until last punch, where she kind of pauses for a millisecond and delivers final blow as if it is out of curiosity “I went this far, I know what is next, but I want to see how it ends” and it is instant regret. curiosity and vengeance sated and there are left only two lovers, who could not overcome their differences and Bill’s reaction is one of proud mentor and lover. of one, who is proud of her student/lover
0:37 The look of ultimate betrayal in his eyes, cutting bill deeper than any hanzo sword ever could, realizing in this very moment that his old master never saw in him, what he saw in her. (which leads to his first question, and i wonder what it was pai mei saw, that which was expressed with confidence in her response) the 1 thing he swore never to teach anyone. what must have cut even deeper tho (which also leads to his second question) was the fact that in all of the years they spent together in love, she never told him what her master taught her, that her loyalty to pai mei was unbreakable in comparison to his. (I would like to think that pai mei gave her this gift, realizing bill’s ultimate intentions/actions would one day lead to her needing this very technique to save herself from him…and that we’re all just sitting here witnessing that day being played out in this clip) this isnt a movie people, its a masterpiece.
I like how tarantino made bill as a proper villain, with all his sensibility, Bill here does know about the five point palm exploding technique, and propably has never witnessed it, as he does not know how to apply it, but figures out what he was hit with, and what will happen, the simple wait, before he drops it on the audience, it is almost like out of a manga scene, where you can see him, thinking “don’t tell me this was…?”, or “there was no doubt that was the ultimate technique!!!” in his head.
This movie touches on certain levels of the human brain that I don’t many can comprehend or fathom…. Having to make a decision to not only avenge your own death but to also kill the father of your child….i think that’s what destroyed Beatrix at the end, she knew she was going to kill Bill but a part of her didn’t want to
Honestly, one of the best scenes in cinema history. Among many other things, it shows how you can love and respect another person, but still want to, with equal intensity see that person dead. The interplay between love and revenge here is one of many examples of how Tarantino is such a brilliant director
