Did Victor ever love Emily?

After thinking Victoria gave him a rebound since he’s married, why not get married too? Heartbroken, Victor decided to devote himself to Emily. He even agreed to give up his life for her. But Victor didn’t love Emily. He might have only agreed to marry Emily out of sympathy. He tried to apologize to Emily for being different. Despite his nervousness, Victor is brave in urgent situations. He fought Lord Barkis with a fork thrown to him by Mrs. Plum during his and Emily’s wedding ceremony. Lord Barkis was armed with a sword.

Plot. Victor’s family are fish merchants who recently became rich by inventing canned fish. Victor was unsure of marrying someone he didn’t know until he met Victoria, the daughter of Finis and Maudeline. They fell in love and before they could have a romantic moment, they were called for the wedding rehearsal.

Is Corpse Bride a bad movie?

Imaginative animation. Corpse Bride is one of the best animated movies I’ve ever seen. My mom and I are happy he made another great animated film since The Nightmare Before Christmas. We waited 10 years. The wait was worth it.

A Lot or a Little? What you will and won’t find in this movie.

Corpse Bride begins with Victor and Victoria getting married. Their parents, Nell and William Van Dort (Tracey Ullman and Paul Whitehouse) and Maudeline and Finis Everglot (Joanna Lumley and Albert Finney), expect the marriage to make both families better off. When Victor messes up the rehearsal, Pastor Galswells sends him to practice his vows. Victor finally gets it right, slipping the ring onto a twig in the dark woods. But it’s not wood. It’s the finger of the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter). Victor goes to the Bride’s netherworld. Victor wants to go back to Victoria, who is being courted by another man. He also feels sorry for the bride, who is lonely. He hesitates, lies, and watches his life and possible death go on around him. Families can talk about Victor’s dilemma. He loves both the Corpse Bride and his arranged bride. He must choose between them.

Is Corpse Bride based on a true story?

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride has a sad real-life inspiration. The Corpse Bride story was inspired by a Jewish folktale called The Finger. It’s about a man who accidentally marries a ghost bride.

  • Fun fact: the stop motion animation in this film is so good, some people were convinced it was actually CGI. And Tim Burton was ridiculously offended by this, because he’s proud of the art of stop motion animation, and all the effort that goes into it. So much so, that when he made Frankenweenie, he actually held back on making it look good ON PURPOSE so people could still tell that it was stop motion animation

  • Someone pointed out that Victoria was like a mirror reflection of Victor while Emily was everything he wasn’t. That’s why it could’ve worked either way, whomever he married it would’ve been a happy marriage. Victoria’s shy, basically never known love from her overly controlling parents, and struggles to fit in with the expectations they have of her. She was first attracted to Victor because of his piano playing because music was banned from her life and we can see from their first meeting and from their wedding rehearsal that while others are annoyed and irritated by his nervousness and clumsiness Victoria would be patient and supportive of him. Plus throughout the storyline they both learn to stand up for themselves. Emily on the other hand plays piano like him so they share the same passions and unlike him is carefree, spirited, has a good sense of humour and effortlessly charming so she’d be good at bringing him out of his shell. I think she has known that to some degree this couldn’t work but she was so focused on how she’d been denied her happiness that she kept convincing herself that this was meant to be. But she made the right choice the end – no-one’s denying that what happened to her wasn’t fair, but the point is that it happened and it can’t be undone, and she can’t get her happiness back if it comes at the expense of anothers.

  • They are definitely marketed for kids. But Burton’s movies always have a deeper meaning for adults. And Danny Elfman usually does the music for Tim Burton, as well as singing voices (Jack Skellington and I believe Bone Jangles the skeleton who sang the song about Emily.) He’s a freaking GENIUS. Also Burton loves doing stop motion for his movies and honestly it was the best choice ever.

  • Corpse bride is definitely a childhood favorite. I remember a lot of kids being freaked out by it but I always thought the film was so beautiful and sad. Plus the music in here in amazing and something I still listen to as an adult . Tim burton has some gems and a lot are Halloween themes so billy you’ll probably find some other ones you’ll like as well

  • I’ll die on this hill. ANIMATION DOESN’T MEAN IT WAS MADE FOR KIDS. Films like these are made to be a reasonable level of family-friendly, but aren’t aimed solely at children so a lot of the time slightly more grown-up jokes are thrown in that kids won’t get. The “I don’t give a damn” part was a reference to another movie, so they probably got away with it with the I think PG rating the movie already has, primarily because there were fears it would be too scary for younger audiences.

  • As a child Tim Burton’s animation style and his stories were scary and even overwhelming. I have learned to appreciate it as an adult because from learning different things about Tim Burton as a storyteller and an artist, it tells children who might be a little strange and off-putting that they are not alone. His films, even aimed at children, deal with issues children might be feeling. as someone who was strange and off-putting, albeit in a very different way, and I deeply admire Tim Burton and his craft.

  • The songs are written by Danny Elfman and he does a lot of music scores for Tim Burton movies. They are one of the most celebrated Director/Composer duos in the history of cinema.. Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Batman and Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks!, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, Big Eyes, Miss Peregrine;s Home for Peculiar Children and Dumbo.

  • I’m gonna say it again the editing on this was phenomenal. It made things like 10 times more funny and they were already funny! Another great reaction, hopefully this one doesn’t get got for the music. They evil for staying on you with that copyright mess, it’s not even like you play the whole songs.

  • This is my favorite movie ever! Honestly the fact that people even want Emily and Victor to be together irritates me because in my opinion they missed the point of the story. Yes Emily did give Victor up but if you remember her sole purpose her dream after she died was to be set free. Marriage was just a fallacy of a missed out dream when she was alive. I completely believe that this story follows a lesson for both Victor and Emily. For Emily she learned to let go of her past and her missed out dreams. She learned freedom is something you can give to yourself rather than seek it out in other people. As for Victor, he learned what true sacrifice is and what it means to love someone unconditionally. He learned the importance of cherishing every moment and it was all thanks to Emily. Victor was giving up what many deem the most valuable his life, and let’s be frank it wasn’t because he loved Emily or in my opinion because Victoria was marrying someone else. It was because he knew Emily would never ask him to sacrifice his life to be with her. And in that moment he saw a humanity within her. A heartbreak. And Victor chose to make the ultimate sacrifice to give Emily what she believed was her dream. While I believe Victorias marriage to the devil (I refuse to name him) played a part. To me it wasn’t as significant as Victor wanting to make that sacrifice for Emily. In the end both of them learned valuable lessons. And Emily was able to find peace while Victor was able to find love.

  • Real quick: you know the tradition about it being bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony on their wedding day? It goes all the way back to arranged marriages like this one, when the norm was the bride and groom literally weren’t allowed to even meet each other before the ceremony. The beliefs was if they did, they would back out.

  • DIE DIE WE ALL PASS AWAY 😭😂✊️ this is one of the greatest movies ever made with a soundtrack that SLAPS at every point of the way. Not a single song I don’t love, and the dead people are all so fun. Love how the dead are so dynamic in this movie and it’s the living people who are dull and grey and feel almost held back by the state of being alive, the dead people are quite literally free from the stiff, boring, uptight society the living are bound by. Clever stuff!

  • This is THE film of my childhood I used to watch it over and over again. I still remember the first time the I watched it tho and I couldn’t stop crying because Emily came apart in butterflies. Right after finishing the movie I went up the stairs to my mother, me still crying so hard, and she comforted me. :’))

  • This is one of my favorite movies so much so that I got a tattoo for it. I didn’t want the characters or something that would explicitly show it, so I got the flowers from Emily’s bouquet – “roses, lilies, baby’s breath” – and have that on my arm. One of my favorite tattoos and the one that represents setting yourself free independent from anyone else. Literally love this movie

  • 2:25 Yep. Victor Van Dort’s family are fish merchants who made a fortune and now want to get into high society, Victoria Everglot’s family are centuries old aristocracy who are broke. Victor and Victoria get married, his family gets into high society, her family escape the embarrassment of being poor.

  • I love stop-motion animation. There’s something so special about it. ‘Corpse Bride’ isn’t my favorite, but it’s still a great movie. #bingers “The Nightmare Before Christmas’ is my favorite. “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn’ is from ‘Gone With the Wind’ 1939. Side Note – You misspelled the movie. you wrote ‘CORSPE’ instead of ‘CORPSE’

  • One of my favorite things about this movie (and I love this movie) is that the original DVD had a mode where you could just play all the music from start to finish, no dialog and no lyrics (I think), from start to finish and it was BEAUTIFUL. I got so much creative work done with that in the background.

  • 11:05 – Except, Emily really IS quite lovely. Especially for a corpse. Only.. she’s, you know, dead. 14:04 – Ohhhh yes, he’s hurt alright– he’s crushed. AND he also likes and cares about Emily enough to want to try and help make her happy– now that he can no longer hope for the one he really wants. He has no pressing reason to get back for anymore, and he’s sorry for her, so why not?

  • OMG I just wanna say that I love to watch your articles, your so funny in the way you speak what’s on your mind and your not afraid to say it, I can respect that since sometimes I can’t even do it sometimes because I’m afraid of what people might say about me, but you rock at these movie comedic commentary’s, also I would just like to ask of where you got this shirt that your wearing that has the fresh prince characters on it, I can’t find it anywhere and I wanna know if it’s from a website or from a store because I love fresh prince, you might not be able to see my message if your to busy I understand, I just thought I ask, anyways continue doing these articles because I know without a doubt everyone loves them so much and brightens our day. – JC 😊

  • I know I said it before but I will say it again, #bingers Clue. For our trunk or treat this year we are doing a board game theme and my husband and I are doing the game Clue, which was the inspiration for the movie Clue that came out in 1985. So good! I don’t think enough people know about this movie. It is available for prime members on Amazon.

  • #bingers I forget, have you seen Nightmare Before Christmas? Coraline? Paranorman? Monster House? Legend of Sleepy Hollow – meaning the short Disney movie from the 40s that was originally released as a 2-in-1 movie with their adaption of The Wind in the Willows called ‘Ichabod and Mr Toad’ (though I guess we should also be recommending the Tim Burton movie ‘Sleepy Hollow’ even though that changes a lot – both the storyline and Ichabod Crane’s general character and the question over whether or not he could actually be called a good man).

  • I love Corpse Bride its an amazing and beautiful movie, I love the art style of it as well the stop motion with the characters and builds made out of clay is again amazing, Tim Burton is a Genius, & Johnny Depp is pretty much always in Tim Burton’s movies if u watch the live action of Alice in wonderland is also done by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp in it lol plus Tim’s wife well ex-wife now was married to Helena Bonham Carter is usually in most if not all his movies to & is who played Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter movies and was Ms. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street which i definitely recommend to watch its a musical and an amazing movie

  • theory is that based on the lines in this movie, Emily was related to Victoria and that was why the family was broke in this movie. That Emily was an everglot and when she was murdered and had the jewelry and gold taken from barkis, they became broke and has never recovered leading them to the events in the movie.

  • #Bingers Sorry i missed the premiere, i love your commentaries and Tim Burton films so this was a new treat. The amount of shade being thrown in this movie is hilarious and i was waiting for it to click when you realized the dude was the fiance that killed her. You should check out: The Addams Family Values Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Carrie Misery Nightmare Before Christmas Monster House Edward Scissorhands (i think you said you watched that but im not sure) Don’t Breathe

  • Not Halloween themed, but for another time if you haven’t seen it ‘Saving Mr Banks’ is a pretty amazing film. There’s some real stand out performances in it: Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell. If you’ve never seen the film ‘Mary Poppins’ it’s probably best to watch that first so you have an understanding of the background for SMB #bingers

  • If u see this I love u 😳 and I suggest perusal “can of worms” and “little shop of horrors”. The first movie is about a kid that contacts aliens bc he think he’s different from everyone else (literally he’s freaky) and it’s a Disney movie with a talking dog! Second is a musical about a man eating plant alien, it is so funny and the songs are amazing and at some point I started rooting for the plant. I really think you would enjoy these movies especially in October :)!! #bingers

  • #Bingers A fun Halloween movie you could do would be the 2011 version of Fright Night (people gonna be so pissed at me for not suggesting the original 😂) but I wouldn’t complain if you did both. Insofar as the film is concerned, a neat little detail to notice is that it starts with Victor drawing a Blue Butterfly inside a glass jar and he sets it free when he’s done and the film ends with him having set Emily free, with her disappearing into bunch of Blue Butterflies.

  • If you would like suggestions for future movie reactions, have I got a list for you. #bingers Should you like to venture into the realm of old movie musicals, these are some I recommend: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang–1968 The Wizard of Oz–1939 The Sound of Music–1965 Bedknobs and Broomsticks–1971 Singin’ in the Rain–1952 Seven Brides for Seven Brothers–1954 (if you thought Beauty and the Beast was about Stockholm Syndrome, I can only imagine what you’d say about this–but it is actually a very good story if you take the time to observe) West Side Story–1961 Guys and Dolls–1955 Calamity Jane–1953 Oklahoma–1955 Hello Dolly–1969 Call Me Madam–1953 Tom Thumb–1958 Once Upon a Matress–2005 The King and I–1956 White Christmas–1954 The Court Jester–1955 Pete’s Dragon–1977 I could list far more musicals, but for the sake of brevity (or at least an attempt) I’ll now move on to my next category. You’ve watched quite a number of animated Disney movies, and while I’m fond of them as well, I’m also quite fond of some of Disney’s older live-action movies. Swiss Family Robinson–1960 The Shaggy Dog–1959 The Shaggy DA–1976 Old Yeller–1957 Savage Sam–1963 Escape to Witch Mountain–1975 The Love Bug–1968 Herbie Rides Again–1974 Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo–1977 Herbie Goes Bananas–1980 No Deposit No Return–1976 The Apple Dumpling Gang–1975 The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again–1979 Hot Lead and Cold Feet–1978 Gus–1976 (If the preceding five movies don’t give you enough of Don Knotts, then I also recommend The Ghost and Mr Chicken, The Reluctant Astronaut, The Shakiest Gun in the West and The Private Eyes) The Absent-Minded Professor 1961 Blackbeard’s Ghost–1988 Should you miss the animated movies of Disney, I also have a list for that.
