How does The Last Kingdom series 5 show the borderlands and burhs? We go back to Mercia and Uhtred is at Rumcofa (Runcorn). This Mersey-side settlement is on the edge of Christendom and on the border of the Mercian kingdom. It is a trading community where pagans and Christians live side by side. The Welsh are not mentioned, and the scale and character of the burh are unclear. The picture shows a port with a mixed community. This is good.
The Rumcofa Cross. In The Last Kingdom, Christians worship outside as well as inside. This is good. Monks bring a painted cross onto a jetty and later erect it for Father Benedict to say prayers. The monument is a wheel-headed cross made of wood or metal. It is painted in dull gold and red. Runcorn is shown as pagan and in need of Christian missionaries. Crosses are used for festivals and worship in the absence of churches. The crosses are symbols of conversion.

The first character to die in The Last Kingdom is Sigtryggr. He is the cousin of Anlaf, the main antagonist in Seven Kings Must Die. He is also Uhtred’s daughter Stiorra’s husband. In season 5, Sigtryggr is killed by Uhtred at King Edward’s command. Edward has already decided to execute Sigtryggr, despite Uhtred’s pleas to spare him. Sigtryggr asks Uhtred to do the deed so he can die at the hands of a warrior. This hurts Uhtred’s relationship with his daughter, Stiorra, but they can make up. In the books, Stiorra dies, but it has nothing to do with Edward. Sigtryggr’s uncle, Skoll Grimmarson, leads Uhtred and Sigtryggr’s armies south. He then sneaks north and attacks Eoferwic, killing Stiorra. Sigtryggr becomes King of Northumbria after Stiorra dies and later marries Aedgyth, Edward’s daughter. This marriage helps Edward gain control of Northumbria. Aethelstan, Aedgyth’s twin brother, succeeds Edward and unites all of England. How does Uhtred die?
Uhtred’s fate in Seven Kings Must Die was unclear. It was likely that he died from wounds he sustained at the Battle of Brunanburh. The Last Kingdom: In Seven Kings Must Die, Uhtred’s friend Finan said that Uhtred’s fate was not recorded in history. However, his wounds and visions of Valhalla suggested he was going to die. It’s likely that Uhtred died from his wounds. If Uhtred was going to live, the final scene with him teetering on the edge of Valhalla would make little sense. If it was a choice between Valhalla or life, it would have been easy for Uhtred. He had everything he wanted, so there was little reason to die young. The ending was open to interpretation. The changes to Uhtred’s ending in Seven Kings Must Die made sense because there wasn’t enough time to tell the same story. One movie couldn’t possibly adapt all three novels, so it would have been difficult to reach the same conclusion. Seven Kings Must Die had to tell the last three Saxon Stories, including the ending. In The Last Kingdom, Uhtred gets Bebbanburg. He still has a son to pass it on to, but it makes sense to change the rest of his ending to fit a movie.
In what episode does Brida die?
I’m rewatching the whole show for the first time and I’m almost done. I just watched S05E07, the episode where Brida dies. When I first watched season 5, I was excited and rushed through it because it had just come out and it had been a year since I had watched any TLK. I had already forgiven Brida for being insane, so it was satisfying to see Stiorra kill her. This time it was different! The whole scene was sad and made me cry. The flashbacks, the music, Alexander and Emily’s acting, and especially the realization that Brida loved Uhtred until the last second and that her whole life was about trying to understand that he wasn’t part of it anymore. Even her romance with Ragnar and her daughter. How did I not see this before? Emily did a great job in those last moments. I’m still crying. That scene is the saddest on the show. Again: I respect Alexander and Emily’s performance, especially in this scene.

Does eadith die in The Last Kingdom?
Stiorra, Gisela’s daughter, is an important character in season 4 of The Last Kingdom. Stiorra, like her father, is fiery and willful. Stiorra is a strong character whose story needed to end before the series ended. Hild is another great character from The Last Kingdom who is not in Seven Kings Must Die. Hild is a warrior nun and a friend of Uhtred’s. Her absence is surprising. The last time we see her is when she takes Uhtred’s son, Osbert, to Bebbanburg. Sihtric is Uhtred’s closest friend and ally. He has been with him on many dangerous missions. In the main series, Sihtric is often shown with his wife and kids. Seven Kings Must Die doesn’t mention his family. This is strange in the early parts of The Last Kingdom film, like when Sihtric and Uhtred’s men are at home. If Stiorra dies in Seven Kings Must Die, it will have to happen differently than in the books because Sigtryggr dies in The Last Kingdom season 5. Sigtryggr is already dead, so Skoll Grimmarson has no reason to attack Stiorra. Also, Skoll would take too much time to fit into Seven Kings Must Die. Aethelred is a bad person who abuses his wife, Aethelflaed. He is greedy and disrespectful.
