In Kill Bill vol. 2, Budd is in love with Beatrix Kiddo, a character from the martial arts films Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2. The Bride, who is known as Black Mamba, is buried alive in a local cemetery with the help of Budd’s friend Ernie. Budd then contacts fellow ex-DiVAS member Elle Driver to inform her of the final resting place of Beatrix Kiddo. Budd intended to sell her The Bride’s priceless Hanzo sword, but the story is inconsistent.
The Bride is portrayed as stupid and incompetent by Budd, and she is not outsmarted by him. She is portrayed as a murdering bastard, and the venom of a black mamba can kill a human in four hours if bitten on the ankle or the thumb. The reason Budd gives Beatrix a flashlight is because he valued his own life and didn’t want to die either.
Bill appears annoyed with Budd when he discovers this. He continues to speak with Budd about the past and not be angry with him anymore. After Budd gets bitten by the black mamba and is lying on the floor dying, Bill calls Elle while she is putting the money back into the case. It can be debated whether Budd knew she was there.
In Vol. 2, Beatrix Kiddo is buried alive with a flashlight, but it is unclear why Budd gives Beatrix the chance. A theory suggests that The Bride never killed Bill at the end of Kill Bill: Volume 2, as evidenced by the scene where Budd buries The Bride in Paula Schultz’s grave. The Bride meets Bill and their child in the flesh, and they play Wild West together. Elle admits to poisoning Pai Mei in revenge for tearing out her eye.

The Bride’s name is not revealed until Kill Bill. Volume 2 added suspense to the first movie. It also made the audience part of the mystery while making them detach emotionally from her. 📹 kill bill vol. 2 – budd and the bride – texan funeral
1st part of the scene in which budd buries beatrix.
Budd told her to go get her shine box. Respect, he was clearly the most dangerous back in the day. Still the most dangerous, notice how the Bride does not announce her presence like with the others. She does not arrive knocking on the door unarmed, or loud and proud. She tries to take him by surprise wearing a mask and armed…
Everyone says Budd was a fuck up or the slacker of the group but really he was just disillusioned and tired of the rat race to be some top assassin or crime lord. He also often said things to make people simply believe he had grown inept, even to his own brother as it’s shown he was lying about having gotten rid of his own sword.
Jonny Cash/Satisfied mind has a meaning for this scene. When this scene happens, we have seen budd working in the topless bar, cleaning toilets for Rocket and then get humiliated for his hat and fired by his boss.\r So basically tarantino is saying that Budd has gone past the heady heights of being a member of the deadly vipers assassination squad and fortune and fame, he has ‘lost every dime’ and is looking for peace. which he almost gets by burying the bride alive and scamming Elle for 1 million bucks.
5:20 “She must suffer to her last breath”. That was the condition that Elle put on the deal. I’d say being buried alive would certainly have fulfilled that condition, and yet Elle killed Bud afterward because he killed Beatrix in a way Elle considered cowardly and undeserved. I always thought that was a bit of a hole in the plot.
Tarantino makes such great use of anti-climax and sudden interruptions. First Vernita Greene gets decked in the face before the siren tune is over, then Budd blasts her out of his trailer before the showdown even begins and then Beatrix launches Elle’s flying kick right into the wall behind her lol it’s so fun
How dare Quentin steal any of Ennios legendary soundtracks from any film that ain’t originally made for his own film especially this one from A Fistfull Of Dollars !!!! That’s a big no no & he should be ashamed ASF especially cuz he knows better to fuck with complete perfection & plus he knows Ennio Morricone would have just made him his own original classic score from scratch if & it would be his own & belong all to him if Quentin just asked & collaborated with him like he did several times for before including even on this damn movie so I just don’t understand why he would borrow one especially from a movie that Quentin finds sacred to his own damn self!!!! Some things are so good that they honestly should just be left alone the way they are!!!!
This is why I think bud is the wisest of the ones she wanted to kill, he shows remorse for Beatrix, and I love how Tarantino kill bud off by inadvertently have her kill him being that it’s an actual black mamba that kills, being that her code name was black mamba in the squad, I swear Quentin is an absolute genius for making a film like this
It’s been so long but this scene has been in my mind for years. When he shows the mace and flashlight, I think she wanted her to understand that her only way to escape was to allow him to fulfill his duty to his brother. Having a flashlight while buried alive seems to be a pointless gesture, but It might’ve symbolized something more.
