📹 Kimmi Reveals How She Met Maurice | Love and Marriage: Huntsville | Oprah Winfrey Network
About OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is the first and only network named for, and inspired by, a single iconic leader.
What father thinks driving them to and from school is spending time with their child? It’s going places, hanging out, weekend daddy son trips, annual trips. Teaching by way of showing life lessons. Bringing your sons friends out to games, bowling. Going on college tours. Real dads have date nights with their sons too. My husband is a corporate guy making six figures and very busy but he makes time for our children. He has fishing trips, daddy son’s weekend for college football or baseball games, college tours, golf, brings them to his office. He hugs and loves on his boys as he does our daughters. The affection doesn’t stop because they’re young men. Being an active involved parent is far more than talks on the way to school. That shouldn’t even be the example of spending time together.
I just love Kimmie! Kimmie helps ME learn how to communicate better! Because whenever I’m in a situation and have to converse with someone who behaves the way Maurice does I get a little heated and it’s difficult for me to keep my feelings at bay! I love how Kimmie remains calm and keeps the self respect, self control! Maurice really irritates me! 🙄
He definitely wants his mother. Because his dad don’t get it. That boy is gentle regardless of how manly he want his son to be that boy don’t really know his dad. Going to visit for two months in the summer you will only know the fun side of a parent. I know I’ve experienced it but to live with them full time is completely different.
The problem with Maurice besides the fact that Maurice knows everything is that he did not take the time to get to know his son’s personality. Every young person has a different personality, for instance, one of my nephews is 18, I gave him a fist bump the other day, he called me out on it, he was like you are my uncle why are you not giving me a hug like you normally do, I gave him a fist bump because I thought that he would prefer that to a hug at his age, I was wrong, but I listened to the young man and give him a hug. We have to pay attention to what they need, it is different for everyone.
First of all you need to STOP calling the man child monster and call him by his giving name parent’s call him by his name you might get better responses from him he’s growing into young manhood STOP calling him monster it’s especially not good for Kimmie to call him that not good at all, not good call him by his NAME
So far Maurice is a disappointment. He only listens to himself. Maurice Jr body language says a lot about his comfort around his dad. He looks angry. Also the young man is not getting the love that he needs from his dad. Maybe I missed the episode that explained why he is there and not with his mom. The babying from the mom is far better than the neglect from him dad. Just saying.
Did not realize that Maurice is soooo ignorant on being a Dad. Very prideful and not willing to take suggestions. He’s stuck on time spent. It’s not about time, it’s got to be quality time. Take him for driving lessons, jog, golf, just you two and talk to him, no orders, just talk about his future without being judgmental!
You must be present in your child/children lives. Maurice is in the household yet he’s hands off when it comes to his son. He puts all the responsibility on kimmie & she has allowed it! I had a co-worker that was married with four children three girls & a boy. All three teenage girls were all pregnant at the same time & my other co-worker said you know why those girls all pregnant & I said why & she said because that man not there. Within two years he was divorcing the mother & married his mistress.
I understood what Kiuwa was saying about Monster not feeling like he can express himself around his dad. People forget when a teenager moves in with you, that’s still a CHILD that needs to feel like they are part of your world. Kimmi said Monster stays in his room all day by himself while Maurice is probably busy working and doing whatever else. Teenagers years are a critical time and you HAVE to bond with your kids. Them spending all that time alone is a sign of trouble.
This is what I don’t like when children come from a single household and raised mainly by the mother. They get blamed for being a “mom”. Moms, mother their children. Don’t tell me how to mother my child and I won’t tell you how to father your child. Men can’t be expected to act and behave like a mother and vice-versa. So why can’t we respect each others position instead of blaming!?
I won’t fault Maurice especially if he didn’t have a father growing up. We all parent from either what our childhood experiences taught us or to do the complete opposite. Where I will fault him is if he does not listen to sound advice. There is a place for discipline but it is okay to be affectionate and have fun moments. Sometimes it’s just being present.
Maurice and Marsau are definitely brothers. Maurice need some parenting skills. His way of talking at and belittling will push Maurice Jr away. He is not spending true quality time with his son. The way his face lit up when his mom said she will come around more almost had me in tears. He really needs his mother. I think it was the first time I have seen the young man smile. Why call him monster. It is an ugly thing to call a child, monster. Please stop!!!!!
Parenting is hard… there is no “right” way to do it. It’s not in a book or on a web series or none of that. It’s trial and error and it’s in real time… All parents can do is have the best of intentions and be there 🤷🏾♂️. Shot out to the parents, keep each other lifted in prayer because the job you do in raising your child has a DIRECT impact on the future of society…
Maurice wants to be the only one to get both women’s attention, caring and loving. It’s weird how he gets triggered about how they criticize the quality of time he spends with his son. Maurice, your son wants quality, NOT quantity. He’s 16 yrs old and still a child, please give him that nurturing because the world outside DGAF
Some parents parent like their parents and it doesn’t work building a relationship early on but yet once the child is trying to find their way of who they are they Really need a listening ear and communication love understanding ideas positive actions a parent that can relate even if it’s a testimony of their child hood also trust .
Can someone please tell me where did Maurice and Marsau receive their really old school mindsets? Very traditional and almost domineering…like the wife’s place is in the home (Tisha) or spending time with my son is pickup and drop off ? Those two activities Maurice cannot teach him how to fold laundry!!!!
Not making an excuse for Maurice but the same thing they are telling him applies to his parenting skills. If that’s not how he was raised he probably doesn’t get what they mean. We learn by example. He seems to not get their point that time doing everyday parenting things like picking up and dropping off is time but it’s not the same as quality bonding time.
Maurice doesn’t want to admit that 1. He actually doesn’t spend the time that he thinks he spends with his son; and this could be the reason for number 2. He doesn’t know his son…. Monsters mom and Kimmie picked up in his body language alone that he’s in his feelings about something. Maurice is sitting there almost shocked. Dude don’t know his own kid.
Hasnt monster lived with his dad for the past 5 years???- At maurices request bc he had the objective of monster becoming a man under his care. Kiuwa contributed her part and Maurice was suppose to contribute his part. How does maurice bypass his accountability to point the finger at kiuwa for monster. Whats wrong with monster is maurice!! 🙄
So his ex wife did all the heavy lifting as a parent while he was just there like a picture on the wall. He likes the title of the father while NOT participating in the act of being his son’s father….got it! I’m going to guess that his own father set this example…which is not a flex but a generational curse…
It seems like both of these women are afraid of Maurice. Notice how they hesitate and try to word their responses softly. If I was Kiawa I’m not asking Maurice if I should be more present, I would be more present. Actually my baby would be coming home with me! His mom noticed his body language, Maurice noticed nothing. That’s parenting, knowing your kid, knowing when something is going on with him. If Maurice really spent time with his son he would notice also. Kiawa take your baby home and continue to nurture him, he’s longing for it. 🙏🏾
I do feel he was somewhat babied, cause my boys were doing their laundry and cleaning their spaces, HOWEVER he needs his mom because clearly Maurice is not affectionate enough or at all therefore he is closing himself off. And while kimmie is speaking facts…there is a difference in how the interactions of him between kimmie and his mom from both viewpoints.
I’m afraid this arrangement has done more harm than good. Atp send him back to his mom. Why live there when Kimmi doing all the raising? I’m sure his mom didn’t agree to send him there for Kimmi to be the primary parent. AND THIS is exactly why Kimmi was hesitant when they were exploring Monster to come and live there.
Maurice us bullheaded…he let’s his ego get in the way. You are raising a young man, not training a German shepherd. He has to realize that his son needs a Father…a male that he can trust and rely on. There is a place for structure and rules, but there also has to be a place of intimacy, where he can just be himself in the presence of his father. A place where he can relax and be comfortable. It’s in That place that a father builds a bond with his son.
The dad is not getting it, take your son fishing, play basketball, football with just you and him. Find out what his day was like. Learn what he likes and don’t like. Just because you live with someone, doesn’t mean you know who they are and what they want in life. Teach him as his father about women. He’s at the age where he should be learning these kind of things from his father. He is so worried about Kimmie having a relationship with him. When it’s his son. He’s there to have his father raise him not his stepmother. The child’ body language is saying, I have a mother. I’m here with my father, but he’s not spending quality time with me alone. He really doesn’t seem happy being there with his father. Kimmie is trying to tell her husband that, his son is his responsibility, and she supports him . But the husband act like he wants the kid to not be a kid. He’s still a kid and you can’t make a kid be grown at your pace. I get what the dad is trying to do but. This kid is feeling some kind of way, that he’s taken him from his mother who was showing and giving him the love attention that he needed. He’s feeling pushed to the side by his father. And he’s probably afraid to Express it to him, because he doesn’t want it to seem as if he’s causing a problem. He seems very uncomfortable in his father’s house. Teaching him how to clean and take out the garbage is not teaching him how to be a man . The father need to find out what his son needs from him as well to make their relationship better.
Maurice and Marsau you can’t tell them nothing? Their own dad told Marsau don’t trying to be the next big thing and how he regret the time he lost not spending time with them? Neither brother spends enough time with their sons and each son appears to be lazy. Do they know how to mow the grass? Do they know how to clean or fix anything? Do they sit in the car while their mom’s pump the gas and pay? Do they know how to change a flat tire? Each son I’m sorry based on what they show in 1 hour, I wouldn’t be surprised if either son get caught up in the wrong crowd or do anything to self-destruct and who’s fault would it be their fathers! 2 parent home does not mean a child is better off b/c you can be married and feel alone or 1 parent does more or all the work!
A word of advice. Continuing to call a child “STUPID” may result in that child starting to believe that’s what he or she is and start living up to that description. Calling him “MONSTER”? He may be living up to his title. What is his birth name? Try addressing him by his birth name and maybe he’ll start acting like a son and stop being what you constantly tell him he is. And for Maurice to be a lawyer he seems to be missing the picture even when the evidence is presented. You do spend time with him? Because you stay in the same house does not mean you spend time with him. He is a part of you, make him feel like he is. Take him fishing, to a game, to a movie, to the Mall out to a Father/Son, Mother/Son, Family/Son dinner. A bonus parent should make the child feel like he or she is also a bonus in the relationship.
As long as Maurice, Martell, and Marsau have the type of mindset that they portray, then we the viewers of lamh will always see the dysfunctional relationships that are not necessarily normal, a lineage of dysfunctional parenting, friendships, and marriages, with too much deflection and denial. Yuck!
Kimmie is the BEST communicator! She rarely raises her voice. Maurice had the audacity to question her tone. REALLY? He is clueless to what Kimmie and Kiuwha are saying. Parenting can be challenging. Parenting a blended family is even more challenging! Maurice Jr. is a teenager. Most teenagers don’t want to spend a lot of time with their parents. I appreciate that Maurice is trying to make Maurice Jr. accountable and responsible for his behavior but that is a process that starts when they are very young. His mother admitted to doing everything for him in the past, but Kimmie shut that down when he came to live with them. You cannot allow a child to be irresponsible throughout their childhood, then suddenly expect them to become responsible when they turn 16. I believe children need structure, chores, and responsibility at an early age. That’s how they learn. As for Maurice, maybe he should take some parenting classes, spend some time getting to know his son. Does he even know what his interests are? Is he too busy providing the basic necessities to see what he truly needs? Listen to Kimmie, she’ll get them all on the right track.
