The reason they didnt allow swiming in Maya Bay is because they replanted corals (most of them were dead from sunscreen and anchor from mass tourism as there were up to 5,000 people a day visitiing the place) 5 years ago and closed the Bay for almost 4 years to allow them to rejuvenate and grow. The corals are thriving and there are baby sharks in the Bay so swimming prohibition will help to preserve the ecosystem around the Bay, a goal toward sustainable tourism. If you like more quiet beaches, there are islands in the east that are less frequented by tourists, like Koh change or Koh Kood, just to name a few.
Just got back from Krabi. It’s perfect very quite and beautiful beach. We were there in first week of October. It’s not crazy like you see in this article. It’s not expensive . You can stay at Ao Nang . Where are a lot of tourist and restaurant . It’s feel like Mexico. We perfect Tubkake Beach. Happy hour at our hotel Amari Vogue Krabi. It is a beautiful 5 star hotel. We eat at the local thai restaurant a along the beach . The menu is in both english and thai. You will get to eat real thai food. Where the local eat. Don’t go there in high season( November-March).The room rate is triple more than low season.
2 weeks is way too long on any island tbh. I would have split that up to two different or even three different islands. That’s almost 5 days per island OR spend a week at the island and a week in Bangkok or Ching Mai. You would get to see much more of Thailand that way. Maybe plan better next time. Any island almost anywhere in the world would get old after 14 days.
