Several years ago, I attended a family member’s extremely expensive wedding reception and because all of us were taking photos directly after the church ceremony, we arrived much later to the reception. Other than the bride and groom, there was no assigned place for us to sit. We actually had to wait for guests to vacate their seats before we could sit down to eat. I had never experienced that before and thankfully, not since!
Other options that crossed my mind — see if there’s any way to get another venue instead on short notice and cancel on this venue? Not the best option but possible?? Lol Downsize the staff in some way like maybe less servers needed if you do buffet style food instead of served to tables kind of thing? Idk. If you really have to uninvite guests, maybe invite them to a huge rehearsal dinner instead or something special around the same weekend especially if they were traveling anyway… offer livestreaming of the wedding even if you wanted, like people were doing during the height of COVID…?
