Who had 300 wives in Mughal Empire?

The Mughal court had female financial officers called the wildars.

Emperor Akbar was the most important Mughal ruler in terms of court etiquette. The size of his harem is unclear, but it was large. It included eunuchs, concubines, members of the royal household, servants, and entertainers. This community needed to be organized, so several official posts were created. One of these was the Tehwildar. She was the lady accounts officer and cashier to whom all officials, including daroghas, had to apply for their salaries. She was responsible for all of the financial transactions related to the zenana and its residents. The disbursement of salaries may have been the primary responsibility of the cash-keeper. However, she also administered allowances to the royal women. All requests for funds were sent to the Tehwildar for approval. She wrote a memo to the applicant, who approved her document. The treasury minister then released the funds in cash.

  • Never expected this from you. Whenever I watch any Indian YouTube Chanel based on historical topic. I found a lot of negative information about Muslin rulers. I never though that you make a positive article on Muslim rulers. I am very much amassed with your initiative. I am a Bangladeshi, and I am perusal your regularly. Once I heard, South Indian and Sikh community are the most humble community in India. You lived upto the name. Keep going on, I am looking for more articles like this.

  • Check at 7:45……. Kashmir has not been depicted in a way it should be! This really itches my heart that an Indian YouTuber is so careless that he/she never pays any attention to the distorted map of India being used…. Foreign creators will use it anyway … But creators like you should pay utmost sincerity! y utmost

  • A wonderful presentation (well, as is every of your presentations). Lots of info Seriously, schools should start a session for children, from grade 5 onwards, to show one article of yours, connected to the topic that they are studying from their textbooks. Definitely you will provide a lot more information than the textbooks

  • hi ! I am a student, I am following your articles from quite some time . There is a very humble request from my side . It would be very beneficial if you give us a article on the difference between Awadh and Calcutta during the British rule based on social, political and economic conditions. • Marring with mughals wasn’t pride for any Hindu rajput daughter and wasn’t pride for including the entire Hindu community. It was extreme compulsions to Marring with mughals King for the sake of saving father’s kingdom and civilian who residing in the kingdom. And despite knowing this brutality, if any muslim are still feeling proud on what the mughals did to our women. than it’s very unfortunate that one side ‘ today’s muslim living in india, taking benefits of government schemes and resources, which are available here. On the other hand, they are getting happier on what brutality, pain, and slavery our women had to face by the mughals rulers and invaders. It’s a shame for all those muslim who feel happy and feel pride on them who muslim attacked in India, killed and made slave Hindus, raped and sold Hindu women, and kept in harram. They don’t want to accept that those Hindu women who were forced to marry with mughals, sold, and raped and kept in harram… those Hindu women were also their mothers, sisters, and daughters.

  • One aspect is that rajput never attack on there sister husband And that too might be the reason to mugals marrying hindu rajput womans So even say that birbal was the master mind of this game And yes jahangir married jodhabai But today in movies they show our history in such a wrong way They show how akbar was great but they don’t show what kiran devi did to Akbar when he try to misbehave with her And lastly it was jahangir himself who allowed British in india 🇮🇳🙏🕉️🙏🇮🇳

  • Well presented, the way you didn’t try to fill in the blanks for information which was not available Is admirable, For people saying that “now that she has reached 1 million subscribers she is showing her true colors” You are free to find information to counter her information Instead of just trying to insult without base.

  • Hi, all your articles are exceptionell and well researched. Thank you for letting us know what exactly happened. I just have a small suggestion that, if possible can you please tone down the background music a little bit when you are talking as it’s distracting and its becoming hard to concentrate on what you are saying. I hope that it will be taken in a positive way.

  • Just a correction ma’am, there were so many examples of Rajput husbands and their Mughal wives, infact Baapa Rawal had more than 30 Muslim wives many of them were Mughals.. Also the Rajputs who didn’t marry to muslim women even after winning battles were of the view that they cannot destroy the purity of Rajput blood which projects valour, bravery and honesty, that was the reason which was explicitly mentioned in Rajput texts anyone can read… I am not a Rajput, but what I have read about their battles, bravery and love for this motherland, I cannot put that in words, they were the real heroes, your eyes will start shading tears when you read about their sacrifices… Big salute to their immense contribution in protecting sanatan dharma..

  • Actually the real thing is that .. Rajputs send their concubines daughters in mughal harem just as present because that time this practice was so common .. just like mastani was send with bajirao from bundelkhan .. but today these customs of that time are using to dishonour and to mock Rajputs .. this is doing by such peoples who hate Rajputs and who are divided is castes in north India … Your article is 80% true and i love your article being a Rajput ❤

  • All 100% of the poor women were r*pe victims of the mughals. Akbar’s own daughter fell in love with Hindu Tansen & she was willing to convert to Hinduism, but Akbar demanded Tansen convert to Islam, thus Tansen converted to Islam in a formal ceremony & married the princess. It is clear that the Mughals had a very vulgar attitude towards non-muslim women.

  • As always awesome content I’m a History Honours student and do research about all those things which aren’t there in school books or things which are whitewashed ( Invaders history)🫠 And your Lectures help me a lot ❣️ Thank soo much Many Many Congratulation for 1 million subscribers 🧡 And one last thing Loved your accent Mam 😂😊

  • mariam ul zamani was a persian girl under the service of Bharmal’s wife, in jaipur’s records, it is mentioned that akbar wanted to marry Amer’s princess, but bharmal’s pride did not allow him to agree, to which some of his ministers suggested that the persian girl should be married off to akbar (the tyrant) and it was done.

  • But if they were not married as per Islamic traditions, why they have been given Islamic names since as per Islamic traditions you can’t marry a non Muslim and they are first converted in Islam and given a Muslim name upon marriage 1. Maan Bai (princess of amer ) – Shah Begum 2. Jodh bai/ jagat gosain (princess of jodhpur) -Bilqis malkani 3. Harka bai (princess of amer – who is shown as jodha bai in movies and shows) – Mariam uz zamani 4.Princess of jaisalmer with unknown name – Malika jahan 5.Ramani Ghabaru (Ahom princess) – rahman banu begum Are few examples

  • for disrespecting….. akbar married some womens and mentioned them as rajputs but in real no rajput women married mughals ……………instead of marrying mughals rajput womens would for sure done jhohars ………..and if u dont have a clint about muslim women marrying rajput men then how would u known that rajput women marrying mughals and if u read it from any books ….that could be also wrong…………… but u are not telling about ranni padmawati and many more rajput women doing jhohar ………so stop telling lie towards rajput culture and respect then i known u are not disrespecting them but plz mind ur words …. pin this comment if u have guts

  • I had been looking for this for a very long time. Finally got my answer. A huge thanks to you, Keerthi. I love your work and explaination as per what is provided by facts. ❤❤❤ Can you do a similar article on Alauddin Khalji’s wives too, please? I’ve heard stories of his 2 wives Jhatyapali and Kamaladevi, so is it possible that you could include their stories?

  • There is fundamental mistake in this article. Scenario #1 For this discussion, let me be a person (for now my religion doesn’t matter). If i have a concubine (just a prostitute solely for me), I am not bothered about her religion. I just want sex and a female slave for that purpose. If I go to a redlight brothel, I am not going to ask about the girl’s religion. I may not be worried about the lsnguage she speaks. Scenario # 2 Let’s say I am a Muslim. If I want Nikkah, the girl has to become a Muslim. If I marry a Hindu girl under Hindu rituals, still it’s not a valid Nikkah. So, the girl will be only my concubine. I (don’t forget that, here I am a Muslim) am not bothered if my concubine is not a Muslim. A concubine can never be my wife. If I am a Muslim, I will follow only what Islam allows. It’s so simple. No need of confusion. Akbar (or Jahsngir or sny Muslim) wouldn’t have time to worry about the religion of concubines or sex slaves. So, it’s totally wrong to say that Akbar or Jahangir, et al didn’t change the religion of their concubines. We don’t need to refer useless Akvar Nama, Babar Nama, etc. If we refer, it will be a total waste of time.

  • Your explanation about everything is very good I can understand it very clearly…………….. So sis can u pls make a article on the topic of . Pls my request sis………. I searched everywhere but i couldn’t get proper information.

  • The name of emperor Shah Jahan’s mother was Jagat Gosain… And she was called jodha bai as a nickname in her home kingdom but her actual name was jagat gosain and the Rajput wife of akbar that is shown as jodha ..her real name was not jodha it was something else ..there are 2-3 different name suggestions from history but after marriage and the birth of Jahangir (prince salim) she was given the title of mariyam-uz-zamani.. by akbar and everyone called her by this title… therefore even in historical accounts of jahangirnama.. he mentioned his mother’s name as Mariyam uz zamani. Other than that rest information like she was indeed the daughter of king bharmal of Amber, sister of Bhagwant das . Raja Mansingh and man bai(jahangir’s first Rajput wife) were his mother’s nephew and niece respectively and jagat Gosain, another Rajput wife of jahangir and mother of shah jahan was the primcess of Jodhpur most probably

  • what she told is totally wrong she read it from somewhere and tell us in this article . there was no woman named jodha jodha was a persian slave who came to india . all the history that rajput’s marrying there daughter to mujhals is totally wronggg . please read and study the pure historyyy . dont go through these articles they are totally wrong .

  • 1:46 I think that we should not consider all the things that are given in the the emepror’s biography by any author or courtmen of his times. Since any ruler won’t like history to remember them like cruel or weak rulers, so the rulers might have made changes in the actual history. It might be possible that where they were cruel, they might have shown them as saviours… The best example is of Allauddin Khilji…

  • Also plz cover the untold sagas of other brave Sanatani warriors and kings from Bengal aswell lyk Maharaja RudraNarayan who was responsible for the downfall f Pathans in Bengal and the great Rani Bhavashankari (RayBhagini) who faught and defeated the Pathans to establish Santan sovereignty in Bengal. ThnQ. Bdw love ur articles as usual ma’am keep it up.♥️🙏♥️

  • Hi madam, your doing great job and your telling the reality of history which is manipulated in schools text book,,,but, but, but, but, but,, Your doing this great job in English language only which is limited to English known people,my question what about the people who know only their state languages still our history spreading to limited people.. Don’t get me wrong my intension is to spread this unknown facts and reality to the all Indians So my suggestion make it in all state languages also, so that it will spread to all over the India. For that use new goole launched AI technology which is “universal translater” your work will happen in minutes, so please on my request do it madam, spread our reality of history in all languages….

  • One thing we can say about Akbar is that he may have been a ruthless conqueror but a kind Emperor. He gave equal rights to hindus and Muslims. Abolished Jaziya and allowed Hindus to practise their religion freely. And this can be accredited to the influence of his first Rajput wife thr princess of Amer who was highly powerful in Akbar’s court.

  • No it was never one way street. Akbar married off his sisters and daughters to Rajputs as well. Tansen converted to Islam only after he married Akbar’s daughter. It was in fact strikingly similar to how Cholas married off their daughters to frontier princes about 400 yrs before, to have control on their vassals and frontiers.

  • MOST OF THE INVASIONS IN INDIAN SUBCONTINENT WERE FROM THE NORTH WESTERN BOUNDARIES OF INDIA . AND WHEN AN INVASION OCCURS, ITS ‘BRUTAL’,VERY CRUEL AND UNMERCIFUL, ESPECIALLY THOSE FROM AFGHAN SIDES ( ALMOST ALL OF THEM WERE MUGHALS ). THE NATIVE CULTURES AND TRADITIONS WERE DISSOLVED IN SAND . AT THAT TIME RAJPUTS OR KSHATRIYAS WERE LIKE A WALL IN FRONT OF THEM . FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, WHO STOPPED THE STROM, THAT DECIMATED/DESTROYED THE MIGHTY EMPIRES OF THE WORLD ?!!! IF ANYBODY GOES TO ANY RAJPUTANA PROVINCES { LIKE MARWAR, MEWAR, BIKANER, BADMER, JAISALMER, AND MANY MANY MORE… (MOST OF THEM IN RAJASTHAN)}, HE WOULD FIND THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF TEMPLES OF THOSE WARRIORS, WHO FOUGHT EVEN AFTER GETTING THEIR HEAD SEPARATED FROM THEIR BODY . AND THERE ARE VARIOUS SAYING THAT A RAJPUT DIDN’T LIVED BEYOND HIS YOUTH ( AS THEY SACRIFICED THEIR LIFES IN WARS ) . MENS GOES FOR WARS AND AT THE SAME TIME WOMENS AND THIER CHILDREN WERE GETTING READY FOR ‘JOHAR’ i.e. IF IN ANY CASE THERE WAS A DEFEAT, AND THE INVADERS ANYHOW REACH THE FORT, THEY (WOMEN) WOULD SACRIFICE THEIR OWN LIFE BEFORE GETTING INTO THE HANDS OF THOSE BLOODY INVADERS !!! THAT IS HOW THEY SAVED THEIR OWN CULTURES AND THE SENSE OF PURITY ……. AND AS FAR AS THESE MARRIAGES ARE CONCERNED, ONLY A FEW SUCH EXAMPLES WILL BE FOUND THAT ONLY IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES . 🔥🚩

  • Sister, many say akbar had a hindu krishna temple constructed in mughal heram for jodhabai. And a hindu temple means idol of the hindu God enshrined with daily worship. And no hindu temple or any idol of krishna was found neither in fatehpur sikri or agra fort. No hindu temple or idol of god krishna was found in fatehpur sikri or agra fort. 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

  • 7:44 One thing to note here….the map of India which you have shown in the article has severed the north western and northern parts of Kashmir and shown them to be parts of Pakistan and China respectively. Please make the necessary corrections, this is very disrespectful. We don’t expect such mistakes from you Keerthi

  • Keerthi mam. First of all congratulations for hitting 1 million subscribers. Mam, in this article I came to know about Jahangir’s wives first time. But I am confused as hell. I mean all the films and serials about Jodhabai and Akbar were false ?! How did you come to know that Jodha was Jahangir’s wife. I mean is there any concrete proof that you surely said this. If there is please let me know. I know that there was a lot of confusions about the real name of Akbar’s first ever Rajput wife. She is known as Heer Kunwari/Hira Kunwari too. But I just want to know how did you get to know that Manbai & Jodhabai was the same person?

  • You say that “we have no records of any Mughal princess marrying rajputman”. 1.\tBabar married his daughter to Dharamchand Katoch Rajput king of Kashmir. \r 2.\tAkbar got Adham Khan’s daughter Bibi Mubarak married to Raja Man Singh of Amer. \r 3.\tMan Singh’s son Jagat Singh was married to Maryam daughter of Kutub Khan,\r 4.\tAlauddin Khalj had married Jhatyapali daughter of Rai Ramchandra Dev of Deogiri, \r 5.\tBappa Rawal married the daughter of Sultan of Gazani, \r 6.\tJagmal Rathore of Marwar married to Gindoli daughter of Mahmud Begda, \r 7.\tGaj Singh Marwar married Anara Bai Begum widow of Sultan of Delhi, \r 8.\tRana Udai Singh married Lala Bai Begum, \r 9.\tRaval Chechak of Jaisalmir married the daughter of Sultan Haibatkhan. \r 10.\tChatrasal Bundela married Ruhani Begum daughter of Nizam of Hyderabad.

  • Few small Rajput kings had to made the alliance to save there people and daughters Specially Jaipur kingdom they made alliance with Mughals but wherever they were in the battle no conversion slave trade temple burning was prohibited Like Rothore king of Udaipur who was in Kabul and order to destroy mosques there is temple will be detroyed then Aurangzeb had to take the order back

  • I don’t think Jahangir gave a damn about anyone else other than Anarkali or the qaniz(concubines) or Alcohol lol😂 It was a purely political alliance between Rajputs and Mughals…once again, after Akbar and Hirabai’s marriage. Isn’t it obvious that it’s a political strategy?!…but how movies still romanticize them and make it seem like rosy baffles me!! And Maanbai committing suicide due to her husband and son’s toxic relation clearly shows the internal conflicts and the level of toxicity among the mughal family…

  • This practice is done for extend of there emperor, there rule etc…, To look into the Life of Rajput princesses is secondary.., perhaps that practice (marrying to Rajput Princesses) layed a very 1st foundation for present issues ‘Love jihad’…, The article was informative akka🫰, big fan of ur knowledge…, @keerthihistory ‘beauty with brain’

  • A very enlightening article regarding the lives of the mughal wives. And I believe that every person should speak the truth even if it is not to our liking but unfortunately any information which shows the islamic rule on India in a good light will be cherry-picked by the jihadists and will be used as a weapon against the Hindus.

  • Appreciate your reserache…, But you should refer some of rajputs text also for more concrede information. You mentioned only mughal text (we should not only learn history from invaders point of view – keerthi history once said)Mughal princess were also married to many hindu kings please do research and make a article. Well done hope we will get more articles like this thank you!

  • Maam Achrya Prasant have recently released a article. Where he questioned that why sex ratio is so low in those states where hindu kattarwadi mindset is known to exist? From bihar to Rajasthan, up to punjab haryana. Why sex ratio is so low there? And northeast assam bengal keral there sex ratio is so high. Even recent nhfs survey show sex ratio at birth is still low in those areas. His article titled “hindu ladkiya khatre main hy”.

  • When i read history i find that hindus in north india made pacts with muslims but whereas the south indian hindus always fought the muslim invaders and did not make any pacts like the rajputs or other kingdoms in the UP, MP, BIHAR regions. Yet northies act like hyper hindus in front of the proud hindus of southern india. Its a sad situation in this country.

  • a lot of other examples are there, Man Singh married Mubarak neice of Akbar and daughter of Adham Khan..another wife munbari was also Muslim.\r \r Chatrasal Bundela married Ruhani begum daughter of Nizam of Hyderabad.\r \r Bappa Rawal married many Muslims queens during his campaign in Central Asia.Sultan of Gajni Salim married his daughter to Bappa.\r \r Babar married his daughter to Dharamchand katoch rajput king of Kashmir.\r \r Jagmal Rathore of Marwar married to Gindoli daughter of Mahmud begda.\r \r Man Singh’s son jagat Singh was married to Maryam daughter of kutub Khan.\r \r Gaj Singh Marwar married to Anara bai begum widow of sultan of Delhi.\r \r Alauddin Khilzi daughter Firoza was in love with Veermadev Chauhan.\r \r King of Azamgarh Bikramjeet Singh married Muslim girl.\r \r Rana Udai Singh married Lala bai begum.\r \r Hanwant Singh Rathore married Muslim girl Jubeda Begum.\r \r Hamida begum used to live with the king of Amarkot when humayun fled to Gajni.\r \r Rao kelhan bhatti married Muslim girl. Mastani’s parents were Maharaja Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand (a Hindu Rajput) and her mother was Ruhaani Bai, a Muslim Persian.\r \r Mirza Raja Jai Singh also married Nizam bal begum Tansen was married to Akbar’s daughter.\r \r Hawant singh of jodhpur married zubeida Bappa Raval(the great Rajput ruler of Mewar).\r \r Bappa Raval had more than 100 wives out of which 35 were the daughters of Muslim rulers who married their daughters to him due to his fear and for their own protection

  • @keerthihistory there might be a possibility that during Jahangir’s reign these women converted to Islam. But there might also be a possibility that these tombs were only built in their memory because Jagat Gossain (Jodha Bai’s) tomb was blown up by Britishers and instead of building another tomb at that place ASI built a ‘Chattri’ as a mark of her burial. P.S.- you all can disagree but don’t spread hate.

  • Why the rulers can’t be like Shri Ram who only married mata sita ❤️😊, that’s why Ram is a god, marriage is union of soul, it’s not a way of getting political power, it’s a pure union and one soul can only unite with one soul, we can only love one person to that level where we can take care of them more than us, if person have more than 1 wife he won’t be able to connect emotionally, mentally to any of those 😊 so these type of marriages are just a lust based marriages or for the sake of dowry only

  • “She was admitted into the imperial harem” maybe it means not a formal marriage but entering harem as a concubine. We did have records of rajputs’ turk (muslim) wife/concubine (muslim) but most probably there aren’t any records of marriage b/w male rajput & girl from mughal royal.I heard Akbar did offers girls from mughal royal for marriage alliance but it’s rajputs who rejected gril it bcz according to rajput custom it’s not ok to marry in the same family where girl from one’s own family already married.

  • The whole story isnt true!Perhaps you havent well read rajastan history!when the moghuls attacked rajastan, many rajput rulers refused to fight them and made treaty with them by offering their daughters to them in wedlock!means they were coward!Later the same rulers wud attack the emperors in ambush and kill them! The only rajput ruler who didnt make any treaty with them was maharana pratabsingh. He fought them fearlessly!Ok! It is equally unfair to say,as tariq fateh claimed, that some emperore were descendants of hindu families! The fact is that the mothers of these emperors were rajput princesses! Both statements arent the same!

  • Imagine if instead of Aurangzeb, Dara Shikoh ruled the Mughal empire. He even called Aurangzeb namazi due to his extremist ideology and he used to sit beside Hindu saints, converse with them for hours regarding Hinduism and its teachings which infuriated Aurangzeb because in this way Dara Shikoh became people’s favourite. After killing Dara Shikoh he ordered that his headless body to be roamed around the entire Shahjanabad so that people will realise their favourite was no more. In this way secularism ended in Mughal empire.

  • Great information! But Rajputs are big exporters of cast system, there are brhamins, vaishyas and other backward caste kings fighting against cast system but i haven’t seen any anti caste advocate from rajput communities. And they say Mughals discriminated them . And importantly many women faced similar discriminaton during monarchy even we have many non Muslim rulers having many wives.

  • Ofcourse Muslims chronicles just say, Hindu princess were admitted into Akbar’s Harem. ….. Thats whaf they thought . That Rajputs were good for harem . This was NO Great marriage of Ganga Jamuna.. Why would any Mullah guve a Hindu princes more value snd to Hindu customs For him its Islamic hegemony that matters

  • After Baber humayun was driven from all sides. Finally shersha sur captured Moghal kingdom. So the Chittoor Rajput king gave asylum to humayun & his family. As humayun was badly addicted to worst habits like kanga, liquor and also he often fond of homo sex habit his health was affected. So his wife got illegal contact with the Rajput king as a result ‘jalaludhin Mohamad akbar ‘ born with humayun initial. In future When akbar become king he murdered his uncle Byram khan who was going holy pilgrimage to mecca by sea root because the one of the few who know the birth secrecy of akbar. So all Moghal kings After humayun were really Rajput hindu blood .

  • Madam, one important point is omitted in your information. Baber tried his best to extend his country’s border. Because of stiff opposition, he couldn’t succeed. He advised his son, Akber to befriend Hindu kings and with their support, he could achieve. Accordingly, he wanted to enlist the support of Rajputs, who are invincible warriors. Rajputs have great respects for Prithviraj chouhan, known for his incredible ruling . Akber came to know of his likes and dislikes. He imposed ban on cow-slaughter. He avoided demolishing hindu temples. He sent his men to every nook and corner of the country and rumours spread that Akber was the reincarnation of erstwhile King Prithviraj chouhan. This concocted story reached people and people started to believe this. Finally, Raja Mansingh was ready to give his daughter in marriage with Akber and became top post in the Akber’s army. This has led Akber to extend his boundary. I got this hearsay information through himalayan yogis.

  • Ma’am you have deleted my comment, I simply ask you to how you speaks english in such a fluent manner with pronunciation each and every word so clearly. Reason I asked you to this question because I am engineering student, and you know communication skill is very important in our discipline that’s why I asked to you.😢

  • Not sure how to analysis the reference you have given. Lets go by proofs you have given to convey that Muslim rulers who married Rajput women were nice and secular. And once we agree to this, then my simple question is, how many Muslim girls they allowed to marry Rajputs / Hindus ( asking this considering your facts that shows Muslim rulers were secular )….. If they were secular only when Muslim man is marrying Hindu woman ( even allows them to follow tradition ) but not allowing Muslim girls to marry Hindu men then wasn’t that biased secularism ???

  • Interestingly, Maharana Pratap had also married numerous times and had many children. Some of his daughters were married to his Muslim Afghan commanders. I guess Hindus were even then open minded, unable or unwilling to see things in terms of conversion, as we see today. The main sense of hindus as humans is generally to improve yourself, whether it be genetically thru marriage or in other fields.
