Vietnamese brides in South Korea are mostly married into families with unknown economic and medical backgrounds, often forced into poor households or married to husbands with serious mental or physical health issues.

The number of Vietnamese wives in South Korea has exploded in recent years, with Vietnam even beating China as the largest foreign group. As the once insular South Korea turns to immigration to address its falling birth rate, there has been an influx of migrant brides into the country.
