  • I want to share something. It’s been a rough month; I’ve been separated from my mum for ages as she is immunocompromised, my country has been on lockdown for a long long time, and even beyond that my outlook on life has been pretty cynical and bitter. I think I was a bright and happy child, once. Now I feel resentment for the very birds singing outside my window. An aching-bone kind of solitude and disconnection, a detachment from the world. For a long time I closed my heart to things I loved; things I considered pretty and lovely now felt empty, shallow and frivolous. I could feel myself turning.. not gray, per se, but neutral. Neutral makeup on neutral clothes, neutral expression on my face that can neither be mistaken for a smile or a frown. Stark utilitarian minimalism is the way to go, downsize this scale-down that. Bare minimum. Get by. Low expectations means less disappointment. And then I found you. Your website, your smile, your infectious joy of living and unabashed love of pretty trinkets that are sometimes just pretty trinkets. For God’s sake, you lived in a French chateau. Such a far-removed life from me, climbing the corporate ladder, running the rat race in the big city. You, with a genuine reverence for history, art for art’s sake, and a connection to people long gone… I’ve noticed recently that I smile a bit more. I put ribbons in my hair, I didn’t even know I still kept those. I allowed myself chocolate, and wearing silk blouses even though I’ll just be in the house.

  • Your YouTube series is bringing me great joy and distraction during this time of isolation. I cant wait for the new series as I’m trying to convince my husband that once this is over, I want to buy or at least visit a French chateau that is being brought back to life. Thank you for sharing your journey. 💗

  • Your Ma, “such a simple woman” (!?) looked amazing. When I watched this on television, I honestly thought how brave you had been, and how much this must have meant, both to you and her. What a wonderful celebration of love, for your Mother and Percy, for you and your mother and for your father. I am sure, if he could tell you, he would tell you that he is very proud of you.

  • Hello Stéphanie! I have been quietly bingeing all of your vlogs this past week, and this has became my favorite corner of the internet full of life and love, a true lesson to appreciate the present. It has inspired me to wear my best clothes at home, and even have a picnic at our rooftop terrace! Your mother is a joy, the wedding looked absolutely heavenly. Greetings from Morocco!

  • Could there be a kinder daughter? I don’t think there could be! YOU are so amazing Stephanie! The honor you have given your mother and her new spouse is extraordinary. I like you have a step father that I love. He and my own good mom have passed away, but their marriage is a wonderful memory for me. I also wanted to say that with your permission, I would like to quote you in a book I am writing about love and choosing a spouse. You said, “Finding Love at any age should be celebrated because it is miraculous!” I could not agree with you more! My young 18 year old son found your website and he shared it with me. While I am not living in anything as huge or magnificent as your beautiful home, I do live in Idaho on the edge of a small town in an 8 bedroom home. I love our home. My spouse built this for me and our children 21 years ago. I love it! We have planted 100 trees here. We only have half an acre but I feel so deeply blessed. The one thing that you have reminded me about today is INSPIRATION! You are so so SO inspiring. Again, while it is not my mission (as it is yours) to redo an huge Chateau, you have indeed inspired me to want my very own home to be beautiful. I think in America especially, we forget that timeless beauty can be brought to any home with some thought and work. My own mother was a designer. I am also creative and currently, as I watched your article today I am working on a design of a lovely daisy and bumblebee garland that I am making for my office here to celebrate spring. I am also opening this fall (God willing with this virus and pandemic!) a small 12 child preschool called “The Busy Bee Preschool.” I love bumblebees and so I want to incorporate them throughout our home here. You father’s art really is so beautiful and whimsical! What a woman and life you have lived! I want you to know that I appreciate you so much. Here I am sitting in Idaho far from you having only been to France one in my whole life, yet you are encouraging me to create a more lovely space here in my home. Thank you! You are such a lovely person. I wish I had time (and talent) to come there and help you accomplish your dreams! The very best to you in all you do. God must be so deeply proud of you! I am sure your own father is in Heaven and looking down on you and so proud of all that you’re becoming! Carry On! You are needed in this world! <3

  • I adored perusal the bits of article and photos of your mummy’s and Percy’s wedding both on Escape to the Chateau DIY and here on your vlog. Magical, truly magical! You two have a wonderful chemistry together. Thank you for sharing your positive, generous spirit. It brings joy to so many of us in this difficult time. Thank you!

  • I think I’ve died and gone to heaven. Not only Isabelle and Percy’s stunning wedding and your fabulous recount of the day but the news that you and Michael are starting a new vlog when all this dreadful virus is over. Don’t think I can contain my excitement 💗💗 Just such great news during this very hard time for us all. Michael’s new website is just so good . I hardly watch normal tv at the moment. Roll on post virus and sending love to you Stephanie and Isabelle, also Percy in SA. 💙💙💙

  • Oh.. Stephanie, Isobelle and Percy’s wedding was absolutely magical, everything was perfect, including the cake! Thank you for sharing all the wonderful details of the day and how they actually met… it will be great to see Percy and the beautiful Marie back at the Chateau . Just when I thought Chateau life couldn’t get any better, you inform us of Michael Pethrick’s ‘Doing it Ourselves’ website – and now we are getting an extra serve with both of you teaming up to take us all on a vintage Chateau tour though France ….. can’t top that! And by the way, how did you know I was searching ‘French Chateaux for sale’ … yes, this is going to be fun!!!

  • It felt like an absolute privilege, dearest delight-filled Stephanie, your showing us your precious Mummy and Percy’s wedding and everything and everyone it took to bring this sacred event to fruition. I was carried away into fairyland – which, for this pixie-imp, is a dream come true…sigh – and imbibed every single visceral moment of this delectable and divine delight. The clothes, the fairy lights, the arrangements both of flowers and of communal spaces for the day. This was a true family event. What an honour to witness it. A humble and melting thank you for this gift. All love to you, Jacqueline from New Zealand xox

  • You’re absolutely right when one finds love and decides to be married whatever the age it should be celebrated. Your mother is such a positive person and fun too, I could picture her there on the plane sitting next to Percy😊. He seems such a lovely guy and you forbidding her to go to meet him lol. Saw part of the wedding ceremony on ETC DIY it was magical. Can’t wait for your other project with Michael yaaaay. Tc and stay safe❤

  • Having to cancel travel plans due to covid19, my husband and I have decided to turn our garden (here in Ontario, Canada) into a enchanted midsummer nights dream forest with pergola, twinkle lights, and couches. We ordered the pergola and the next day(a little behind in the series) I watched your episode where the pergola was put up. Then we ordered the couches and the next day I watched the garden furniture being brought out. Now I have decided to make the midsummer nights dream theme and this article came up. It’s fate! I now have so many ideas on hanging fairy lights and chandeliers and greenery from the pergola! Thank you, this series has made my quarantine! ❤🇨🇦

  • Just this past June my father remarried after the untimely death of my mother at 62. This article resonated with me so much because I had such similar feelings at my dad’s wedding. Thank you for sharing this part of your story, I think it will help many people. I truly feel that my mother had a hand in connecting my father with his new wife and I felt her with us so strongly on the day they wed. Lots of love to you, Mummy, and Percy.

  • Oh, my goodness–where to begin?!! Isabelle and Percy’s wedding was completely gorgeous and beyond spectacular. Your mother is such an adorable lady and a beautiful force of nature. And Percy is so gallant and sweet. I can’t imagine any place else their wedding would have been so amazingly beautiful, creative, joyful, and serious. Truly, Isabelle was beautiful and radiant, Percy dashingly handsome, and all the planning and participants created a wedding to remember. Seeing the photograph of Marie’s floral arrangements in the ice buckets, then the pergola draped in lace, foliage and fairy lights, was beyond belief and brought chills along with tears. Well done doesn’t begin to say how stunning their wedding was. Thank you for sharing Isabelle and Percy’s beautiful wedding with us. Merci beaucoups!!! 🙏🏻💗🦄🏰❣️🏰🦄💗🙏🏻

  • Looks like the perfect wedding. It’s wonderful that your realized chateau dream helped your mother, Percy, family and friends have a perfect day. Such a wonderful gift to your mother. Your new venture with Michael sounds like a winner. Hope your family is doing well with quarantine and that life can go back to something like normal very soon.

  • Your mom and Percy’s wedding looked just stunning! So much love and beauty in one day! I’m so thrilled to see your and Michaels new venture together! It’s going to be so magical! As a history lover and an art historian I can’t wait to see all the chateau that are out there. Maybe one day I will be able to have my own… ❤️❤️

  • So glad that you created such a lovely wedding for your mother and Percy. My father was an Episcopal clergyman. I have witnessed the most wonderful marriages of 70 & 80 year olds. One story was of teenage sweethearts whose families did not approve. They each married other people. They found each other in their mid 70’s and had almost a decade together. It was such a sweet wedding. Love, whenever it happens deserves to be celebrated.

  • (Moira Ashton) What a wonderful vlog! I sooo loved seeing your lovely Mummy telling us how she met Percy! Also all about the wedding, it was beautiful, I love that you are so positive about things, and that you and Michael are planning to visit other Chateaux, (His blogs are lovely too) you are both so interesting to listen to. Looking forward to your next vlog! Stay safe all of you at Lalande .. 💗💗💗💗

  • Can’t wait for the new series! I only found your website about a week ago, when I was perusal How to renovate a Chateau with Philip and Anna. They visited you, and linked your website in their description, and have been binge perusal your series from the beginning (yes even the first 29 episodes that were in portrait view!), ever since. What a riotous, wonderful, upbeat, and joyous time you all have! Maybe, one day I will come for a visit, or even to help (art, painting, interior design and furniture up-cycling are my forte, but love, and can turn my hand to many other things too!) Stay fun!… and now, I must continue my binge! xxx

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely love story. We are lucky to have things like FaceTime Skype and any apps that allow us to see our loved ones no matter where they are in the world. Thanks Stephanie, and your wonderfully fun family and the charming talented Michael petherick. Looking forward to more articles..🌸🌸🌸

  • Oh, where to begin… This was such a treat – seeing the process of creating that magical day for your mother and Percy was absolutely brilliant and I picked up some wonderful little tips along the way. The evening lighting has to be some of the most stunning I have seen – it is amazing what can be done with a clear vision and bags of creativity. I am also ridiculously excited about the new venture you are launching with Michael – I can just imagine the little vintage convertible with a picnic basket tied to the back and you and Michael appropriately decked out in your road tripping garb (complete with flowing scarves and jaunty caps). I eagerly await the introduction to some wonderful French chateaux. I must say lockdown, on my little island in the South Pacific, is no chore with such wonderful articles to enjoy! Thank you for continuing to share your enthusiasm and your home with us. Arohanui.

  • I just discovered Michael’s website today, which led me to your website! I live in Canada alone, and this lockdown has been very difficult for me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and your passion for life. Today I felt happy flipping between your website and Michael’s website. I have subscribed to both, I’ll be back <3

  • I am so glad you finally sharing Mommy and Percy’s wedding. it was beautiful to find love gives me hope. it saddens me that persis in South Africa and not in France with Mommy. I wonder is it possible to board of private plane ticket Percy to France? Just Percy know anybody with a plane? maybe we can smuggle him from South Africa to France to be with Mommy?? LOL

  • This is a wonderful article! You have an uncanny way of making me smile from beginning to end and it never happens any other time. You’re so excited about life and it bubbles out of you. Life really is exciting and I love perusal someone else who feels the same way. Great talent and exceptional creativity! Thank you so much for doing these! Every one is better than the one before it . . if that’s possible, though each stands alone in the pleasure it gives!

  • What a lovely story…my father died when I was 18 and my mother remarried three years later. I felt strangely disloyal to my father but the situation was so unique and my mother so surprised to have found love again that it was a joy to share her happiness. My mom has been gone for several years now and I soak up your rlsp with your own mother. So much beauty, laughter and appreciation for life🦋🙏🏻🦋.

  • Intro very nicely said….. it is difficult to move on, and I can understand the feeling of a new partner for your parent. Her life goes on, but she will, nor you forget the love your father gave you both for many many years. We can all see the love you have for your father, because you mention him all the time, and have lots of beautiful things he has given you, paintings, and the lovely fountain, which you see daily . A constant reminder of him and his LOVE for you . I rather think maybe he brought that for you, knowing it would be with you, well past his passing …..

  • Stephanie I so needed this today. Thank you so much. My beloved dad passed away 9 years ago 🥲 my mother 84 yup 84 remarried a Bishop in Ghana last Christmas and he is a few years younger than her and she has never been happier. It’s taken me a while to be onboard but in the end her happiness means the most to me. Thank you for reminding me and sharing your story ❤️😘🙏🏾

  • In all honesty Stephanie, I thought you were just another bubble head. But a couple of minutes into this episode, I realized that you are a warm hearted, generous, and well reflected girl. I trust your mother will be happy and much loved. Life on earth is just a tic toc in time, so we better make the most of it. Stay safe and well ! Love from Oslo Norway 💖

  • What a great celebration of Isabel and Percy’s love. I love the story of their meeting and how you, Stephanie found out about them. Your mother always makes me smile and laugh. We all know where you get your joy of life, from both of your parents. You’ve really created such a great community of love and support there at Lalande. I hope I get to come share in that joyful adventure someday.

  • What a beautiful wedding for them! Isabel looked absolutely beautiful. And as ever Percy was dashing. The carriage, the chapel the terrace and staging was beautiful. I do events myself and to find a suitable theme is a lovely find. Extremely elegant, but relaxed… Lovely. The pergola was a triumph and Marie.. you are so talented. A beautiful effort made by everyone. And another thrill, the up and coming Chateau visits with Michael. WOW! I cant wait to see them, and visit of course.

  • Loved listening to and seeing the photos of your mums beautiful wedding. It brought me to tears. I am 50 and well a little cynical about love at the moment. So seeing all these lovely shots reflect how I think I would want my wedding to be like. Full of love and romance, with people relaxed enjoying each other’s company. Eating off beautiful plates and breathing in the scent of fragrant blooms. Just gorgeous. Thank you so much. I’m less cynical after perusal this one.❤️❤️😊 Also you look absolutely stunning in your dress and lovely scarf!

  • What a fabulous episode. I haven’t seen ” The Wedding” on TV as I’m in France so it was lovely to see and hear about such a special day. We had my son’s wedding at home last August so I know the feelings you share. Also very emotional to talk about how you felt about it in relation to your Father. Thank you for your very wise words Stephanie. Lost my Dad 6 years ago, seems like yesterday, and you are so right to ” embrace life” with fairy lights, flowers, family, friends, laughter and food ! Love never dies xxx

  • Oh Stephanie you make Sunday’s such a joy. You are a wonderful daughter and what you did for your mom’s wedding was lovely. Your mother is beautiful. I love her. Was excited to hear that you and Michael are going to a vlog together traveling around France. You two are so cute together. Can’t wait. Stay safe.

  • It’s literally a fairy tale setting! To own this historical gem and be able to share it with ppl on their special day is something your grandfather would be so proud of. You’re such a beautiful person inside out, it’s as if this chateau was calling for an owner like you. I’m new on your website and thoroughly enjoy every article that I’ve watched. I go back to your older ones to catch up on information about you and this stunning building. The wedding venues were beautifully decorated and dressing the entrance with flowers and trimming the trees to welcome your guests on that long and beautiful driveway, was a breathtaking sight indeed! Wow!

  • Man! It looks like a place straight out of a movie set! Planting the flowers, and maintaining the chateau must be so exhausting! Just looking at you guys makes me tired lol! But it’s beautiful, I bet the people who came here to have their wedding must have been so happy and it will be so memorable! You guys did a fantastic job! I can’t wait to see more articles! I’m so excited!

  • Hello you two brave adventurers, it is a delight to see that you manage to motivate people to trust you to prepare this day so important for them. Of course, this setting is a fairy tale for their most important day. But the backdrop is only the backdrop, you two brave ones fill the backdrop with life. Your grandfather would be very proud of you to have found such worthy successors. I would wet my pants in the face of the facts. I wish you further that you always have a hand’s breadth of water under the keel. I look forward to more articles. Greetings from the Baltic coast in Germany

  • I literally got choked up perusal that! The music, the gorgeous wedding photos, the unbelievable setting the chateau provides for those lucky peoples’ big days…. Beautiful! It’s also so sweet to see how hard you work to make the chateau and grounds as perfect as possible. It’s very obvious this isn’t just a business for you both! ❤️❤️

  • CONGRATS! Great article production and serene v/o. We too have 70 weddings this year, but in the catering end of things. These are primarily local “barn venues” from old & rustic to new & industrial-look, along with a smattering of tent destinations at lakeside cottages. We host a few events on our property and possibly more in 2024 as ’23 is booked for off-site work. Enjoy the summer!! We truly understand & appreciate the dedication, hard work & effort – notwithstanding the gracious patience that goes with hosting weddings and events. The trust & friendships that develop in this vendor-centric industry are incredible and generational. “Love that has a ring to it!”

  • Our wedding: Celtic themed(groom was 3rd Gen Canadian Finnish Scottish, bride Occitan Jewish, Central Asian, European ancestry, North African ancestry), in the historic gazebo in the small town in Michigan that I was from. 2nd marriage for me, two of my boys were groomsmen. My foster sister matron of honor and my cousin presided over the ceremony. I come from a multi ethnic, multi faith family. My in-laws are all Caucasian, very conservative. They did not know how to interact or be with my family. They all sat in one corner….far, far away from the rest of the guests! Speaking of commuting, we commuted for four years before I was able to come west to Calgary. Best wishes.

  • Merci ! 🌸🌸🌸

  • oh and sorry, meant to say, you two have the calmest, soothing voices and articlegraphy and music, its such a relaxing pleasure to sit and listen to you. Please do share more content, its so enjoyable I went back and watched them all already! Bon Chance for your continued success this summer in the heat!

  • If I was getting married there, I’d choose a classically styled decor theme. The colors would be pink and white and then……I’d let you decorate as you’d see fit! Everything is gorgeous there even without any added decor! The setting alone is enough to say “gorgeous/beautiful/exquisite”! Happy to have found your website and look forward to many more episodes you’ll share.

  • My fiance is considerably younger than me, so I’d probably choose a Harold & Maude theme, which means we’d be driving off into the sunset in a Volkswagen Beetle with a tree sticking out of the sun roof or a sports car slash hearse. 😂 Thanks for posting some photos of the weddings; I always enjoy perusal other people’s creativity. As a person who does a LOT of gardening, I can appreciate the need to round up help planting all those flowers.

  • The chateau is stunning! It must be a magical setting for a wedding or any party. I was curious to know if the growth of vegetation on the walls of the moat and the chateau’s foundation along the moat compromise the integrity of the structures? Do you have to trim or pull out the plants and trees which grow out of the spaces between the stones?

  • These articles are truly works of art. The music and the way each scene is shot is perfection. You two are doing an amazing job with this website and I can’t wait to see each time you post. I can only imagine how beautiful each wedding is and how lucky the bride, groom and the guests are to experience such a special place. Thank you again for sharing this website with us all 🤗Love from Georgia USA🥰💕🥰💕🥰

  • Noooooo—-a. Its not long enough. When you’re painting and doing the icky stuff and the stuff that you may think we don’t want to see…. We do. We want to be on the journey with you over the pond. Vlog everything. Editing isn’t so important. These articles don’t have to be perfect. We just love anything. Btw- beautiful job on the wedding.

  • @2:08 at a chateau like this? A hillbilly theme, definitely… 🙂 Wellingtons, overalls, hay sticking out of pockets, straw hats, some farm animals… And i’d call the bride “cousin” the whole the time… 😀 But seriously, i don’t think there would be any theme as such. Just come in, have a good time with friends and family, soak in the atmosphere, and that’s it.
