Also the thing about divorced couples really bugs me.imagine having to get a chaperone as a grown woman to go to a party, let alone feel you’re bringing shame to a man because you wanted to go to your own daughters birthday party. Women aren’t objects, they’re not property, and certainly don’t need permission to coparent
I don’t think she made the right choice…Coming from divorced parents, in my opinion I would’ve gone with the mom… Yeah you’re gonna leave your friends behind but that’s part of life and you can always keep a form of contact. Most importantly, her mom was all for her to do what she wanted or liked. As long as it made her happy. I prefer that freedom and support. There’s such a huge world out there and her mom is basically saying you can continue this Gypsy path or you can reach out to do something more if you want. That’s nice. I prefer that than to be pressured unto only one path by not even me, but a parent.
This is nothing more than a father pushing his daughter to marry young and have no wants and dreams of her own. What if she wanted to go to collage? What if she does not want kids? What if she did not like the man/boy you will force on her. I am sorry but I do believe that this should be looked into by CPS. Like they do with other people and their forced marriage. If it is wrong for one people to force marriage it should be that way for all.
I just feel terrible for her mother. She went through all that trouble, followed all their rules, and it just….. it makes me feel gross. The best thing that father can do is try to get along with his ex for the sake of his daughter. They are not connected anymore, she owes him no allegiance, yet still followed code in order to make sure her daughter’s day went well. A girl needs her mother. I feel like her mother would steer her away from making hasty decisions. This breaks my heart.
It’s actually funny because people from the show have stated TLC has exaggerated the gypsy community. The pastor is not wrong in some ways. Not ALL gypsies dress extravagantly and outrageous as they portray on the show. TLC does this for views and money . I mean if she liked it, then so be it but I think the culture and history is something to look further into rather than believing everything that is being said on a website that is for entertaining purposes.
Creepy that she can’t dance with her own age group and it has to be older men, is an understatement. Also, is it a rule that the dresses have to, seemingly, be the most ridiculous, tacky, tasteless dresses ever? I mean, does anyone seriously find any of the dresses that have been seen on the show, nice? Lastly, having that choice put on you as a kid, the decision of staying with your mom or your dad…that’s f***ed
This is the best and most authentic representation I’ve seen. They even speak the language, I’ve never Seen any of the other episodes practice putting money in the box for dowry. Good to see. I’ve always wondered why are they so contradicting, by the way they dress but their moral values are so high, it’s quite contradicting, but not for this family.
I was shamed on another website for using the term gypsy because it’s “offensive”. Wish ppl would realize it’s only offensive to ppl who don’t identify as or aren’t part of that culture or if it’s used as a slur or insult. That said beautiful dresses and lovely girl. One of many cultures that would be difficult to understand unless you’re raised in it. I find it fascinating even if I don’t understand it.
She’s his daughter. He didnt want her looking trashy, so he got her a more traditional dress (yes its a quince dress but quince dresses are traditional too alot of cultures have dresses like this). Obviously her dad isnt that bad if she wants to stay with him. All of yall in these comments are looking way too much into it lol
I do think family is important. However it is important to have friends. We all need a support system outside of family. Also its necessary for a child to meet new friends over time to build social skills. My mom thought she was doing me right by telling me to not go out and not have a bf until I got my degree. Unfortunately I was socially akward. I did not feel like I was able to connect to others. It took until my late 20s to be able to socialize with ease and insert myself in a conversation. I don’t stutter anymore, which was a major problem because I didn’t interact.
I love how they keep saying that these are crystals they’re literally plastic pieces a five year old would use for an arts and crafts if anything they might be glass but sorry no these are not any standard of Crystal this is ridiculous how is this supposed to be classy or pretty it’s so ugly… This is not culture of this is ridiculous this is humiliating to the people who came for generations before them
I find it ironic that most of the comments are wanting this group of people to let go of their culture and change their beliefs to adopt modern American ways. If anything I think communities should hold tight to their culture now more than ever. Just because something is considered better doesn’t mean it necessarily is and it certainly doesn’t mean it’s best for everyone.
um is the stepmother teaching how to be a proper “housewife”? Or is that against culture if the stepmother actually “steps” in? I do not know the real story but the dad I guess is more stable? So, more rules more restriction on a teenage girl? What if that “husband” is terrible? I am worried that little girl is in a arranged marriage situation because dad doesn’t her to make the same mistakes mom did. But you can’t control it. I say visit Real Gypsies overseas or something then go from there. Real talk he was rude to the dressmaker, he should have expressed and addressed his concerns more privately.
You know what’s aggravating. This was 7 years ago…and till this day people are still talking about something they don’t know about..this is my family ..my sister my father so if you guys have real questions why don’t you just at me. What some of you guys don’t understand is TLC cuts a lot of scenes and they wanted a lot of drama..witch there was NONE…but they like to make a scene..for the show..and sorry to those who didn’t agree with what True ROMA gypsies are…ya sorry our girl are respectful..not like the others that was on this show
As a real Romanichal Gypsy, he is not the same kind of gypsy, he is a Turk, of course we don’t speak the same language, they loveeeeee to think they are above us yet their Turk women so badly want to marry in our culture bc the men actually work and provide! Not send their women out to beg for money along side roads with their small kid’s! He’s a bum reff… And fyi @Tlc we/ real Rumney women! Would never! Wear those cheap looking luvanie dresses! You hired scripted backwood Gadji people not (gorger) that isn’t a real word smh… So disgraceful……
Maybe moving back to the states is the best choice for ur daughter. I never understood that, nothing, especially some job (even my dream job) wouldn’t be a reason for distance between me & my child. All else is nothing in comparison to being a mom. It would make no sense to move far from her in her teenage years. That’s just me. Wonder what is the mother’s good reason for staying in Hawaii? Prob has something to do with herself!lol
I can’t stand this guy he say Romanichal We don’t know the language and trying to say that English Romanichal are not rael gypsy But What time guy don’t know we speak a different language from Roma Romanichal speak a unique dialect And Actually more of a special type of gypsy because they are white more unique
