The average cost of a wedding cake in Ireland largely depends on factors such as the number of tiers, flavors, and amount of sugar work involved. On average, couples can expect to spend anywhere from €300-€600 on a standard three-tier wedding cake designed to feed about 100-150 guests. For larger weddings or those opting for a more elaborate design, the cost can easily increase.
Wedding cakes for the same number of guests can differ in price because they differ in the number of tiers. A typical height for tiers in a wedding cake servings chart is 6 inches, although each tier can range from 3 to 8 inches. If you want to spend less, you can opt for a smaller tier height, and if you prefer a more impressive big wedding, you can opt for a larger tier height.
The average U.S. wedding cake costs around $500, with most couples spending somewhere in the $300-$700 range for their wedding cake. A grander 3-tier wedding cake comes with a higher price range, with an average of £400-£900 for a 3-tier wedding cake. Expert cake makers often fall within the higher end of this range, delivering intricate designs and exquisite finishes.
Wedding cake prices start at £280 for naked cakes, £300 for semi-naked cakes, and £320 for iced cakes. Servings are approximate and are based on industry-sized wedding cake portions. Sugarpaste iced wedding cakes, Naked/Buttercream wedding cakes, and fondant iced wedding cakes are all available at different prices.

What is a traditional Irish wedding?
Irish kilt tartans represent counties and districts, while Scottish kilts represent clans. There is also an Irish national tartan. It was made famous as a response to the Anglicization of Ireland by the British. The groom wears a full formal kilt at traditional Irish weddings. The groom will likely wear a Brian Boru jacket, a white tuxedo shirt with a bow tie, knee socks with ribbons matching the color of their tartan, a sporran with shamrock detailing, and ghillie brogue shoes. In America, more grooms wear Irish kilts than in Ireland. Many pipers and Irish musicians wear kilts, as do Irish dancers. Green wasn’t Ireland’s official color until the 19th century. When King Henry VIII left the Catholic Church to form his Church of England, he made Ireland an independent Protestant kingdom and gave them the right to have their own coat of arms and flag: a gold Celtic harp on a blue background. Ireland’s flag was blue for hundreds of years. Blue was also considered lucky for brides because it symbolized fidelity. You might see blue elements at a wedding instead of green. At the wedding, everyone hopes the couple will live happily ever after. You might see lucky shamrocks and horseshoes on the bride’s bouquet, tablescape, favors, and cake. Irish brides used to carry a horseshoe down the aisle to bring them luck. To bring good luck, the bride should walk down the aisle with a sixpence coin in her right shoe.

📹 My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Cake | Irish Traveller Wedding
For gypsy traveller’s girls, their wedding day is the one day they get to feel like a princess… In this video we meet 16 year old …
I respect her mum so much for going against tradition and facing the judgement and persecution from her community by divorcing her husband for the sake of her children, I’m not a traveller and I can never understand the extent of their beliefs but I can see the incredible strength that the mother has displayed to give the best life to her children, mad respect
Out of all the gypsy weddings this one was my favorite so far! She had a tasteful dress and gorgeous cake. Give so much respect to her mother for being such a role model and removing her children from growing up in a home witnessing domestic violence. As far as that grabbing though – I would never tolerate anyone doing that to my daughter even if it was the thing to do.
“Grabbing” is assault soooo not sure why we dont just call it that. They might have a little traditional word for it but it should be called what it is during these documentations. This girl was sadder than anything to leave her mom. So sad. She’s scared and why not, chances are the relationship started out with her being “grabbed”
Wtf…. seriously. This girl not once looked happy. They weren’t even looking at each other during wedding at all. That was heartbreaking to watch… but THEN they end it with this grabbing crap! That looked like girls getting raped to me. What in the world is going on here. Someone grab my daughter like that, and they would never be able to walk, talk, or grab anything again the rest of their life.
First time ever perusal this show and feel for this mother! She actually LEFT the marriage and I know I’m a nobody but im so happy for her! I left a marriage too when literally EVERYONE was telling me not to. “You’re married now put up with it…” Like fuck no you don’t just “put up” with abuse! Smh!
Okay, the “couples” whole demeanor at the wedding ceremony was heartbreaking. They looked both unhappy, forced and when she put the ring on his finger, it appeared as if she didn’t want to touch him while he didn’t really offer his hand. This is sad. Nobody seems to be ready for that marriage and yet everyoneet it happen.
The dress should have been tailored better to match her cups. It’s so ill fitting. The tailor did her dirty. I would be outraged if I paid for a special dress and they didn’t even get my size right. The cake is gorgeous and the mother is absolutely an amazing role model of a woman for sacrificing so much inorder to protect her children future.
Her mother is a very strong women who truely put her children first, she showed her children what is not acceptable and that they do not have to just put up with any form of abuse that so many do, the kids know that they can survive on their own if they have too.that’s the biggest gift the mother gave her children the knowledge something no cake or dress could do!
This girl’s mum is absolutely amazing! I have so much respect for her & all she’s done for her children. This young girl is so mature for her age, so helpful, kind & considerate. Love this episode & this mum & daughter are a beautiful family. So much respect. Her brother is so handsome! This mum is absolutely incredible, I’m amazed
I clearly understand that I will never understand their culture, beliefs, morals, education, etc… So with saying all of that I am glad that I am born and raised in America! I had a husband once that was very verbally abusive, emotionally abusive, spiritually abusive and it wears you down!!! I am so proud of the Mom of the ride to show that it can be done!! 💗💗💗
such a beautiful and caring young woman this bride is…..you can tell she and her mother have a very special relationship…..I hope she is very happy in her married life and her husband is respectful and kind to her. Not all men are abusive…. And Noreen is such a peach….she explains things so well.
I’ve been perusal traveler and gypsy shows for years because I was in love with it all but never have I seen this type of raw article of the grabbing done. It really puts it in perspective. I still love the whole lifestyle and all but I’m way to butch to go through with the grabbing, because my instincts would take over then I’d only end up with someone really mean.
I always thought it would be much simpler to decorate the cakes at the wedding hall and put the extras on it there assemble it there so that there’s less of a chance of catastrophe. I have a lot of respect for her mother, being in an abusive relationship in the past I know how hard it is to get away. Kudos to her for wanting better for her children.
Watching these documentaries makes you realise how much freedom you actually have. I understand it is tradition and it is all a part of their culture, but just the thought of having to marry someone before the age of 21 is terrifying. These girls are literally children and they haven’t even reached adulthood yet. The thought that you’d be married in your teens with the knowledge that your duty is to become a full time housewife for the rest of your life is scary. Women don’t seem to have a lot of freedom when it comes to their future, it is all pretty much written out for them the day they’re born. It is quite sad. It all seems so old fashioned.
Stunning bride! 😍 and what a wonderful mother she has…. she said she was trying to give it back to her daughter, all because her daughter was/is there for her when she is in pain or sick, when she’s already given her a life, and raised her to be a beautiful young lady with a heart of gold bless her, you did that Mum, no one else, you did! Congrats to the happy couples!
My dad would have fitted very well into the Traveler community. This included his views on the roles of both male and female. When that one gal noted that if they are not married by 22, That then the gal is considered to be too old. My dad considered women 20 and older to be too old. To him, a gal needed to be married by the latest age of 19.
I wonder how the mother was able to afford the big lavish wedding given the fact she is a single parent and can’t work? I’m not being judgemental, I’m genuinely curious! I’m pretty sure traditionally the brides family pay for the majority of the wedding, and the groom buys the marital caravan. If I’m wrong please correct me.
Sadly the culture raises men believing that women must always obey their husbands as if they are the wives parents instead of partner and equality is nonexistent. That’s what causes the abuse because it gives the men the opportunity to abuse their power and authority. It’s a real shame actually. That’s the problem with society of abusive men as well because that’s exactly how those men think but In the gypsy culture it’s just normal! Smh. I hope things change for their culture for the sake of the women dealing with such torment.
My dear sweet beautiful girl, you are a precious human being. There needs to be more people in this world that are as lovely as your mom and yourself. I don’t even live on the same continent and that makes me sad because by the grace of God I wish I could be there close to your mom to give her and your siblings a helping hand. I would truly consider it an honor. I spent 29 years in an alcohol induced turbulent relationship. 25 of those years were husband and wife. I stayed way too long and because of that my children suffered. Your mom is brave and strong beautiful woman and I have to say, so is your boss. My prayers will always include you and your wonderful immediate as well as your extended family and friends that have helped make you the absolute best daughter/sister/employee/cousin/friend and community member. May Gods’ Grace and love always be with you.
Traveler girls aren’t even allowed to dance with young men at the wedding, but the young men can sexually assault them? It’s a sad, grotesque tradition that needs to die, along with child marriages. It was one thing hundreds of years ago, back when the average life expectancy was lower than 50 and people had to grow up much more quickly. These girls are exposed to Western culture and are still, for all intents and purposes, children on their wedding day. They want grand parties that resemble a rich girl’s 10th birthday party, not the type of event befitting of a grown, mature woman. It’s just so sad to me.
It crazy how all us Romany’s are all different. The way we dress for our weddings isn’t like how they do. Those dresses are to big and to much where they can even fit in a car van.. lol.. There different types of our kind. Were different then others. We are not all the same. But I do like perusal and seeing how we are from them. The word Gypsy is a slag word really.. But I’m proud of who I am! 😉
I know travellers, they consider themselves a different race to the rest of us. They are even classed by law as an ethnic minority in Ireland. Most of them have weddings like this here and the question everyone asks is where do they get the money for the big dresses, big cakes, limousines etc. when most of them never did a days work in their lives, or at least an honest one. Yes fair play to this woman for having the courage to leave an abusive marriage, but look at the size of the house, the money spent on the wedding. I’d invite anyone to come to Rathkeale in Ireland, it’s an eyeopener😤
The grabbing part would suck because I don’t think the girls get to choose which boy decides to court her aka take her. So I mean if he’s like one of the worst guys who grabs first that would be maybe why they scream and say no or maybe it’s just supposed to be funny and they grab and go to kiss and what not IDK I DONT UNDERSTAND IT I wouldn’t like it. A Barbie wedding aint worth the life long trauma to me tbh. Sorry
Oof, I already don’t think he’s good enough for this princess!! I say that in the most respectful way I can.. For one he doesn’t look happy, two the teen boy has his freaking hands in his pockets the whole time the recording was going, except when he gave and received the ring’s 🥺 and he just gives me bad vibes. I pray I’m wrong.. but she is so innocent looking and such a sweet girl!! She deserves to be happy and deserves the world. I loved everything from her dress, cake, and her smile. Good luck to you both
Did anyone else find the bride and groom’s body language at the altar to be odd? She was kind of looking around, and not once did I see them lovingly look at each other and smile. There was no sense of intimacy. She didn’t take his hand and gently put the ring on his finger; she just held the ring in one hand and jammed it on his finger. They didn’t smile at all. And after the vows, he stood there bored and slack-jawed, and stuck his hands in his pants pockets! I’ve NEVER seen a groom put his hands in his pockets, every groom holds his bride’s hands or leaves them at his side. It was just very odd to watch how they related to each other. They acted like they were strangers.
The mother reminded me of me…. only person divorced in the family ever, brought up the children and supported them 100% alone. Unless you have done that you have no idea what it is like and the fact she did not stop her daughter marrying and let her go is good too – I would never hold mine back just to help with the younger ones.
Do travelers REALLY not know why venues don’t want to book them? Just in case they are that clueless, the answers are: Sexual assault, fighting, disturbing the peace, damage to the venue… And I could go on. Can you imagine sitting in your house with your kids perusal TV and all of a sudden you hear a girl screaming bloody murder because a guy is trying to drag her up the street by her hair for a kiss? IT’S.NOT.OKAY!!!!! I feel sorry for the travelers who don’t act like this and are caught in the middle but how are venues supposed to tell who’s going to be a problem and who’s not? In America we don’t have travelers (that I know of) so I can only imagine what it’s like.
Is it Nouri or Noreen? Can’t tell with the Brit accent. Either way I love that name and I’m proud of her for having an outside job! I’m guessing it’s approved considering what it is…and I would think they’d want more travelers in the business considering how hard it is to get vendors. Couldn’t someone in the community make bank opening a venue that specifically caters to travelers? There are so many weddings I’d think they could make their money back quickly. Suppose it would be difficult to get a loan if they can’t even get venues though. Also Bridget’s eyes are stunning. Mine have their charm I suppose, but I have to admit I’ve always wanted eyes like that. Mine are so dark they look black at times and it’s just not as catching.
You have done well and have a bueatiful family, I escaped domestic violence and brought my 2 children up alone my son not long ago put his arm round me ( hes 40 now) and he said man I and my sister owe everything they have done in life to me. I did my best I would marry just for the cake then just come home alone lol
This is their culture, even if we may disagree with what we see, telling them off about their traditions and culture will get you no where. All we can hope is that they change, but y’all aren’t going to be able to do much if this is the way they were raised and taught. I seriously hope things have gotten better with the women. This article is 5-10+ years old.
Ok even the disclaimer about grabbing could not have prepared me for the shock I feel. I feel like they did more than grab given the way she came out of that van fixing herself. She went in screaming came out like she just had tea. Is the screaming suppose to happen for theatrics or are they genuinely scared. Would you still hold onto your cigarette if you were really trying to get away as the one girl did? The children present must be traumatized on so many levels. Now I’m headed to look into this ritual. Just wow.
