Palladium was cheaper than gold in the 70s and for a while there after . We used palladium as a cheap white gold for setting pave in small diamonds . The color is not totally white so where possible it was rhodium plated . For almost 40 years I used 19 Kt. white gold rather than 18Kt. with palladium as the 19 is a much better color . I did not bother ever rhodium plating it as it looks very white not as good as platinum for the blue white look but significantly whiter than 18Kt white / palladium . My 2 cents as a retired Canadian jeweler .

To me gold is yellow. Ive watched gold rush and Aussie gold hunters an both American and Aussie gold miners mine gold that comes out yellow. Its pure. White gold to me isn’t a gold at all cause gold in colour is yellow. Your ruining it by adding something in order to change the colour. My sister doesn’t even have either gold as her engagement or wedding rings hers a platinum, she whole heartedly agrees with me even though she prefers wearing silver over anything yellow, she doesn’t own anything white gold.
