I absolutely love “The Princess Bride” watched it at the theaters 3 times and own the DVD and have watched it multiple times over the years and every once in a while I think of the line “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya and you killed my father, prepare to DIE!” I loved that line and also the part where Buttercup pushes Wesley down the hill and as he falls he yells “As you wish!” and Vizzini and his always saying “Inconceivable!”
My husband and I love quoting the movie. Once he said something about my being a witch and I shot back, “I’m not a witch, I’m your wife ! And after what you just said, I’m not sure I want to be that anymore !” We both busted out laughing. I can’t wait to show this movie to our daughter when she’s old enough
1:40 hit the nail on the head. I wasn’t old enough to appreciate the deeper layers of comedy and action when I watched it as a kid. perusal it for the first time again after 12 years I’m astounded at what I missed and how much more in depth the movie actually is. They don’t make any movies like this today.
Let us not forget that the humor in The Princess Bride is also timeless. Most of the satire mocks fairy tales, which never go out of style 😊 I remember I used to think Buttercup was so stupid in the movie, but after reading the book the first time, I realized that movie Buttercup was actually SMART compared to book Buttercup 😂😂
This movie has everything. Fighting, comedy, romance, scares, the good guy wins, the bad guy doesn’t, and not one bit of it was overacted or overdone. The lines were delivered perfectly, and the nuance was not lost. No film will ever hold a candle to this movie. And, perusal Cary Elwes talk about it, and the stories he shares will make you love it even more.
For me. This was my moms favorite movie. One of my few memories of before she passed away was climbing into bed with her asking her to play the “gross princess kissing movie” at like 5 years old. She’d always say that this was her favorite movie. I was 7 when she passed so now when I miss her I’ll get comfortable and turn on this movie. I’ve seen it so many times I can mouth every word.
I think part of the love comes from perusal it at a young age and having a similar reaction to Fred Savage’s character The first time I watched it was on a scouting weekend. Our scoutmaster put it on and we were all just “Why are we perusal a girl’s movie” “This movie’s old” and complaints like that, but half way through the movie, you couldn’t tear us away from the screen. And then as you get older, you get the subtle jokes and makes you fall in love with it even more. A timeless classic and I can’t wait to show my nieces and nephews
Robin seems mellow sweet. Cary feels like a gentle giant. I like them the best of all and Well Carol is sweet feeling too, she’s got a gentle feel to her down to earth, Cary too. RE: the almost hysterical feeling about it well Idk about that, for me that isn’t so, no, but it does lead me to memorie of leichhardt and my neighbor who introduced me to the film upon my doing what I did often being mischevious or going over to Jill and Lindsey and Kates he felt he couldn’t reject me guess I had a hard to deny/put down energy… I can 6th chakra see his face even now, so solem/stern in voice good heart though and kind within his introvert shell, and it also leads me back to memories of times in the inner west/Mom. I think or believe 1987’s The Princess Pride inspired Dreamworks Shrek in some aspects, I don’t think it inspired the Walt Disney Company Feature Animation Renaissance in the slightest, I own this movie on DVD but I rarely watch it, anyway I truly think this “original” fairy-tale is very close to the spirit of Shrek.
