I knew I saw this a long while ago, but I couldn’t remember where. I wasn’t ready to tackle the skirt idea I had in my head. But now I am there and just about to panic searching all day. If my back wasn’t hurting, I would have jumped up and down, danced, and whoop and hollered. Never mind the neighbors, I needed help and you saved my sanity because I wasn’t sure anymore that I had not imagined this tutorial! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I sat here for ages trying to think of something clever to say. That took way too long so, i would like to tell you this : I bought this nasty duster coat and your tutorial gave me enough confidence to not only cut into, and modify a ready made piece but now, I have turned it into something I will actually wear. Thank so so much! Youre a star 🙂
Hi Carol, thanks for this article. I have a long black satin dress which has a separate inner black satin lining and I need to put in a front split (just like your article instruction). Do I follow the same process, but use the black satin lining as the backing fabric, stitch on the V, cut on centre line, turn it out and finish with a top stitch and iron?
Made a mistake along with turning my jumpsuit into a dress or turning a trousers into a skirt.. could i use the same method you used or how do i do that same method to make the beautiful split or hoochy 😂 split. It looks so clean and nice once you’ve turned it the right way and top stitch each side.
Thank you for this! Could this work on a bridesmaid dress that has a layer of chiffon cut on the bias? (2 layers in skirt, chiffon and some polyester thing) The tailor said it would curl but I’m not sure that’s worse than melting in 100 degree heat. He agreed to slit the bottom layer but not the chiffon. Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Carol it’s amazing tip I found in you tube. Now I’m stuck at the turning in the facing materials at the tip of the V point/ shape. It’s not folding nicely at this point, you’re trying to tell some tip, article is not showing up your cutting, so I’m little not clear at that point only. Can you please up load the article shows what you are doing and telling to follow. Thanks Nithya
thank you for this! I inherited a maxi skirt from my grandmother after her passing late 2021, and I’ve been wanting to add a slit to it for a while because it’s just too restrictive, (plus side slits are just cute!) This was super easy to follow and I think mine turned out great considering I have very little experience with sewing. I’d like to think she’d just be proud of me for doing it myself lol <3
How would you deal with a seam that does not finish the edges separately as in your example, but finished them together? When I seam rip that out, it leaves the edge bare and fraying and where the edges come back together, there’s a lump. Would I have to take the skirt apart all the way to the waistline? 😬
