  • It doesn’t hurt to ask. I am wondering whether or not I need to take another graduate program to get a license for counseling or therapy, although my current program is Mental Health Wellness: Prevention. The coursework has to be extremely similar. Perhaps a certification is the way to go, correct? I am not stoked at all about doing schooling yet again. I am a mental health technician, and perhaps if I can network properly, I can make 50-60k as a therapist or counselor minus the license, if a program director took the chance with me. Or with the certification, I would hit the mark, thus employers would have some level of confidence in me.

  • Hi. I know this article is 5 years old, but I figured I’d give it a shot since you responded to most comments. I have an English Ed bachelor’s, a TESOL minor, and a philosophy minor. I’m trying to figure out if I would need to go back to college for psychology courses in order to be accepted to a master’s program in mental health counseling. I’ve had trouble finding a conclusive answer online, unfortunately. :/

  • I’m confused with some information I’ve been receiving, everyone has been saying that a master degree in counseling is a requirement, but I’m also seeing a lot of colleges offering professional counseling diploma. I wonder what’s the difference in obtaining a master’s degree vs diploma, I have a bachelor’s degree in criminology so I’m not too confident if I’ll be accepted in master’s degree of something different like that.

  • hi im seeing this late but i am 17 and will be turning 18 this summer and i am a high school dropout, im working towards getting my ged but the whole process confuses me. never really had guidance to help me with my future but i believe some type of counseling would be good for me, i love philosophy and psychology and have been in behavioral health units with other kids and when i was there it felt good to know that i could help someone while i can listen and they can help me you know. its kinda the only job i can see myself doing and definitely want to work towards it but worried if i cant bc of a ged, if i am what is the process?

  • What if somebody has no education at all and is looking to become a counsellor but has a very deep passion in helping people. I have helped over 10 people change their lives for the better over a 6 year period and some of my students and still with me after 3-4 years growing and succeeding in life. How do you recommend going about getting a degree or diploma?

  • My son has been having fights in school as a 1st grader I volunteer here n there and the kids aren’t bad at all I see a disconnect with the teacher some as she is a YT Female and the whole class is Black, but she is good nonetheless she and I often communicate via phone or text. She even sees the masculinity is what’s lacking some in the class and/or home and always asks me to volunteer. Lastnight I has a epiphany on a program to start targeting kids of that age and just utilizing my life lessons, fact that I’m a young man who once was a boy so I can relate to how to interfere, interact, interject what the kids feel or have methods to get to the bottom of the issue. The kids take to me very well they’re very respectful but there kids so ofc they get side tracked and sometimes goes awall but it’s like playful things lol I know I can intervene and be a sycces to these young greats I just don’t know if I need a license or degree to get started. I’m tempted to start it ASAP and jump in but I don’t wanna be stopped for not having proper credits. Is there away to get started . I have alot of sales Customer service experience & I’ve done some self led Activism that has reached Washington Post, The Source, Reuters and other big named tabloids. I know im ideal and well equipped by default but I honestly don’t wanna goto school or anything I’m ready today! Help someone
