So, the mother says her daughter is “too bony” for the dress the father selected, but then the dress the mother selected has a more or less identical top and suddenly, the poor daughter isn’t “too bony”. Yeah, power struggle between the separated parents is what’s going on. Ridiculous, and sad that the daughter is in the middle of it.
Taylor is absolutely lovely and gracious. She managed to be kind and have something nice to say about the “mouth of the south”, even after this narcissistic unit was cruel, childish, toxic and rude. Your 20-year sentence is over. The wedding looked beautiful. This young woman deserves every good thing to come her way.
I would be ecstatic to be asked to come along to pick the dress. Whatever makes my girl happy! When my husband and I broke up, I tried really hard to make sure there was as little competition between us as I could. It’s not about who is right or wrong, or who is closer to the bride. It’s about her. It’s an honor to be included. A privilege, not a right.
i really get how taylor feels, having spent her whole life trying to make her hypercritical mom happy to no avail. i took my mom with me to try on a dress i had actually already ordered online, so the try-on was more of a formality, but i gave her explicit instructions that she was not to say ANYTHING negative. she actually kept her mouth shut, surprisingly, and i’m glad taylor stood up to her mom too. even if someone’s dress isn’t YOUR style, the prettiest thing about it is how happy the bride feels wearing it. that’s what’s important.
My grandmother’s nickname was Midtown Motor Mouth and I could not have listened to her Mom spit venom like that without saying something. “Mouth of the South.” More like just plain bitter. Her attitude’s like unsweet tea in a can. I’m so glad her daughter stood up for herself. And her Mom can’t call anyone boney when her own face looks more crusty than old cornbread.
I look at the lines on Mama’s weather-beaten face and can see she has spent most of her life sneering, frowning, shouting, and rolling her eyes. That Mama has the visage of a Medusa. The people surrounding her turn to stone before our eyes. Everyone shuts down emotionally. It’s downright scary. No wonder she’s a Daddy’s Girl. He’s not a narcissistic git like the Mama.
There are enough comments about how Toxic the mom is, so can we take a moment and appreciate the dad? Every time she came out in a dress he wasn’t focused on his choice he believed was better for her or trying to stoop to the moms level, but instead he was genuinely thinking of what his daughter wanted. When she came out in her mom’s choice of dress his first instinct wasn’t to criticize how she looked in the dress but to say “it isn’t her” in other words saying “this isn’t what she wanted” and to top it off when she chooses a dress that isn’t his choice he doesn’t seem the slightest bit upset, he just grins widely clapping his hands happy she found what she wanted. What an amazing dad!
Yes, the mom is a toxic person, but the dad turned around and did the exact same thing when his daughter walked out in the mom’s pick. They are both petty, selfish, self absorbed, emotionally immature people who BOTH decided to use their daughter as a weapon to try to hurt each other with. They only person they were actually hurting was their daughter. Can you imagine what growing up in this environment was like for this poor woman? Those two bring out the worst in each other and they couldn’t put it aside on this one day?!? That is absolutely foul behavior on display from the both of them. The mom was especially heartless. She was on another level, but daddy was no saint. He knows how to push her buttons. \r \r The bride was stunning in that gown and I was so proud of her for standing up for herself.
The wedding dress & veil we’re both absolutely beautiful. Together they on this young lady turned into absolutely gorgeous & stunning gorgeous bride! The mamma just needs to sit back and be thankful she was even invited to join in the wedding dress shopping. The dad too. Childish games aren’t needed!
It never even occurred to me to take my own mother shopping when I bought my wedding gown. It would have gone exactly like this appointment. I hope this girl musters up all the strength she’s got because if she has kids….. we already know who will be a constant pain in the pants, demoralizing her at every turn.
Aside from her mom this episode had me smiling all through because her dad made every compromise for her and when he saw that she didn’t like mom’s dress he saw that and validated her opinion. It might seem its the parents competition but I think dad realises if he doesn’t help his daughter her mother won’t listen. Mom was too concerned about herself and her hatred of her ex husband, even the comment about her body not being good enough was horrid. Personally I don’t think mom is really sorry I think she just accepted defeat.
What I noticed at the very end where they showed the wedding was that all the bridesmaids and the groom’s friends were wearing white as well which is usually a big no-no in weddings. However, she was still the center of attention and she looked absolutely beautiful and I love that for them as a group.
This is why I’m so glad my mom will not be like this, i know she’ll grab something IF it resembles what I’ve described, but she already said she’s not going to pressure me into trying on anything unless it’s merely for giggles or as a palette cleanser (like smelling coffee to refresh between perfumes)
So sad. My mom saw a bridal gown in the window of the department store where she worked in the office. She didn’t say anything about it. I walked over to pick her up one evening after work and I saw the same dress. I went up to her office and said “I found my dress”. All they did was dryclean the dress and put new illusion on the headpiece. It was the correct length and needed no alterations. 50 years later, it is still in style.
what a beautiful girl that turned into a beautiful young woman dressed in her wedding gown, her eyes just shone with sparkle. It’s a shame that her mum couldn’t say constructive things about her daughter instead of bringing out negative, bringing her daughter to tears of upset instead of happiness. To me personally i thought that she looked stunning in each dress that her tiny frame put on, and with the addition of the small headdress and veil, she looked every inch a stunning bride to be. I know that you should always have your mum and future Mother in law to HELP pick a dress, but if her mouth is like that woman’s, well then there can be exceptions made to that rule. I hope that Taylor and Dustin have a happy and joyful life together.
No wonder her parents were separated….mom didn’t one nice thing to SAY AT ALL!! She was NOT happy at all…Definitely a negative Nancy!! I can definitely relate to her being daddy’s girl…that was me. Just so glad she went with dad’s opinion with the way her mom was acting and treating her. Mom was being totally disrespectful!!
