How To Build A Wedding Backdrop With Pvc Pipe?

This DIY PVC Backdrop project is a simple and logical way to create a tall wedding backdrop for under $20. The process involves cutting 4-10′ PVC pipes 1″ diameter, 2 90-degree PVC elbows, and 4 PVC Tee joint. The pipe stands are used to create the backdrop, which can be hot glued or wired, and adorned with fabric, sheets, or inexpensive curtains.

To make the PVC pipe backdrop base, measure and mark the measurements of 6′ crossbars, 6’2″ side pieces, 7″ spacers, 2″ connectors, and 3’3″ legs. Press the PVC pipe cutter firmly onto the pencil line and squeeze until the PVC pipe is cut.

For an 8-Foot Wedding Arch, cut the PVC pipe into four 6-foot-long lengths, four 5-foot-long lengths, and three 8-inch-long lengths. Create one joint on each 6-foot pipe by inserting one end of each pipe into the arm of a PVC T-joint.

For each 7-foot pipe, attach 1 “T” and 1 elbow at either end using super glue if desired. Insert three 18-inch pieces with end caps into three holes of one 3/4-inch PVC cross connector. Measure and cut two pieces of 3/4-inch PVC pipe to 2 inches in length and insert each one into the remaining open hole of the cross connectors. Stick a 3/4-inch PVC T-connector onto the end of each 2-inch piece.

The PVC pipe is the same size as the fittings, making it easy to grab from the wrong box. This DIY PVC pipe project is perfect for adding elegance to your special day and can be used for various events, such as Valentine’s Day or friends’ weddings.

  • You guys did a great job! I’m a part-time event decorator and have never had the need of a 2nd backdrop kit but find I will need one to decorate both the church and the reception hall later this year. Did you have any issue with the curtain panels sagging in the middle due to their weight? Yes kits are costly! Do you recall your total investment in the pipes and all the connectors? Thanks for sharing..I may have to consider this option! New sub.

  • Thanks for Subscribing and your interest. You should not have any issues with the curtians sagging because that 2nd horizontal pipe in the middle help supports it. That’s why we did the 6ft section 1st to keep it from sagging. We added the 4ft for longer length. Because we needed 30ft, that’s why we did 3 sections and just add them together. If you do not do it this way and use the 10ft pipes without cutting them like we did, it will sage. Home Depot sells 10 -10ft pipes in a bundle for about $45. If you are doing the full 30ft it was the cheaper route to purchase 1 bundle. You will need 15-10ft pipes. I bought the extra 5 pipes separately. All of the connectors were less that $50. We purchased them separately, except for the 5 way ones that we use for the feet. They were 2 in a pack on Amazon for around $8. So total cost was around $100-$130 for 30ft. At that time which was beginning of December, it was cheaper to make this than to buy one that extends out 30ft and stands almost 10ft high. Prices may vary in the area you’re in, and may have changed since that, especially on Amazon. So, definitely keep that in mind.
