How To Choose A Royal Bride?

In the early part of the Ching Dynasty, young Kang Hsi ascends the throne and turns down the Queen-Mother’s decision to adopt Na Lan Hsiu-chi’s daughter Chiung-yao as the Royal concubine. His mother tries to marry him with the daughter of an official, but she is too strong-willed to agree. So she dresses as a man and heads off to Jiang Nan to see the spring blossoms. As luck would have it, Kang Hsi also decides to head to Jiang Nan in disguise in order to find a suitable bride.

Tian Guan Ci Fu, also known as Tian Guan Ci Fu, is a comedy drama directed by Tony Lu Chun Ku and produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio. The film follows the story of Emperor Kang Hsi, who is attempting to select a bride and his mother arranges for young available women to visit him. The movie features a winning performance from Hong Kong legend Joey Wong, who plays Prince Kangxi, who is set to choose a concubine under the supervision of his Empress mother.

The film is a star-studded, fight-filled comic romp that pastes together two familiar Shaw Brothers tropes: the emperor traveling incognito to see how the common folk live and the beautiful girl who dresses as a man to see how the world works. The story revolves around the emperor’s journey to find a suitable bride and the challenges faced by the young emperor during the Qing Dynasty.
