To make the icing, remove the egg whites from the stand mixer and add the remaining sugar, butter, vanilla, and almond to the stand mixer. Tie one end in a knot and stick the other twisted end into the bag. Fill the bag with frosting and lift it from the cup.

Chocolate and peanut butter are popular cupcake flavors, and you can decorate them with roasted nuts and a dollop of chocolate frosting. Fold a 3 to 4-inch cuff over the edge of the glass and use a rubber spatula to scoop the frosting from the bowl into the bag.

To make a wedding dress out of cupcakes, prepare and bake them according to the instructions on the box. Arrange the cupcakes on a cake board and pipe a small amount of frosting on them in a spiral, one layer on top of the other, to obtain the desired height.

To make chocolate cupcakes, preheat the oven to 350°F, line a standard 12-cup muffin pan with liners, and heat the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Pipe the frosting in a swirl with the tip about 1/4 to 1/2 above the cupcake, exerting even pressure.

How do you keep frosted cupcakes moist overnight?

Put cupcakes in an airtight container. Store decorated cupcakes in an airtight container. You can use special containers to keep cupcakes fresh, but any container will do. Frosted cupcakes will stay fresh in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days at room temperature. You can leave cupcakes on the counter, but if they have dairy in them, like cream cheese frosting or custard, you should store them in the refrigerator.

Refrigeration dries out baked goods, so eat any cupcakes requiring refrigeration within a couple days. Store-bought frosted cupcakes should be kept in their boxes. Cupcakes will stay fresh in their bakery box for 3 to 4 days, even if you didn’t bake them. Keep the box shut with the flaps taped down. This keeps the baked goods from drying out.

How do you make perfectly domed cupcakes?

Start with a high temperature and then drop it. Start at 400°F for 5 minutes, then reduce to 350°F for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until done. Fill your cupcake tins 3/4 full with batter. You’ll have to experiment with this, but it’s a good trick to know! Baking Tips: 1. Measure ingredients right. Use a kitchen scale and my measuring guide for the most accurate results. If your cupcakes are dry, you may have overmeasured the flour. If you must use volume measurements, be sure to fluff your flour, spoon it into your measuring cup, and scrape off the excess.

How far in advance should I frost cupcakes?

Keep cupcakes fresh for two days. Unfrosted cupcakes will stay fresh for two days. If you’re going to cover the cupcakes with frosting that needs refrigeration, wait to frost them until you’re ready to serve them—within two days. Let cupcakes cool completely on a wire rack for at least an hour. The wire rack lets the bottom, sides, and tops cool. If they’re still warm, they’ll make the cupcake tops sticky when you frost them. Put them in a plastic bag or container and leave them at room temperature. They will stay fresh as long as they don’t lose moisture or get too hot or cold. If your cupcakes are sticky, let them sit at room temperature for an hour to dry out. Piping the frosting helps keep the tops intact.

Now you can make the swirl. Position the piping tip at a 90-degree angle over the top of the cupcake. Squeeze out a small amount of frosting in the center of the cupcake. This small amount of frosting in the middle will help you create the swirl. Start at the edge and slowly pipe the frosting around the middle, keeping pressure on the bag as you move inwards and up. As you complete one circle, move the tip inwards. At the same time, lift the bag until you have three full circles and a fourth smaller circle on top.

How to add color to cupcake frosting: Before adding color to your frosting, divide it into two or more portions. Leave one portion untinted and tint the rest with paste, gel, or liquid food coloring. You can find these in grocery stores, specialty baking stores, or online. We love the Watkins Food Coloring Kit ($7, Target). Mix two colors of frosting together and swirl it on top of your cupcakes. Use one color for the frosting and the other for writing or making stripes or dots. If you only want one color, tint the entire batch. Mix well until you get the color you want. Liquid food colorings are less vivid than paste. If using a liquid dye, add drops of coloring until you achieve the desired hue. How to add flavoring to cupcake frosting: Your grocery store or online bakery retailer has a variety of extracts to add flavor to your cupcake frosting. Look for other frosting flavors like peppermint, rum, raspberry, banana, and cherry. For citrus frostings, add lemon, lime, or orange zest and replace the milk with juice. Add a splash of liqueur to the frosting! How to make natural food coloring: Make your own natural food coloring for frosting instead of buying artificial dyes. Mix fruit and veg with buttercream to make pretty colors for decorating. Use strawberries for pink, blackberries for purple, blueberries for purple, mango and carrot juice for yellow, peach slices and spinach for green. You can also use freeze-dried berries for more vibrant colors.
