Currently, only Florida, Montana, Maine*, Nevada, South Carolina, and Tennessee authorize notaries to perform weddings. However, many states, including Massachusetts and New York, grant a One-Day Marriage Designation, allowing notaries to perform a wedding ceremony for friends or family.
A notary must sign the certificate as the officiant and include all required information. The certificate should be signed before two witnesses and should be recorded in a wedding notary journal.
