In Fire Emblem Engage, Lindon is a scholar from Elusia and a former retainer of King Hyacinth’s older brother, Ivy and Hortensia’s uncle. He was born near the Tower of Wisdom and taught magic to soldiers of Elusia but has somewhat retired from most duties. Lindon is among the Elusian forces.

To recruit Lindon in Fire Emblem Engage, you must reach Chapter 18 – The Cold Voyage. During this chapter, Lindon will appear as an enemy unit, but you must not kill him. You can talk to him using Alear, Ivy, or Hortensia. Lindon is the only character in Engage to be recruited as an enemy during a chapter. Others are either automatically recruited at the end of the chapter or by talking to him during the battle.

In Fire Emblem Engage, there are six optional characters scattered across the map. Most are fearsome units capable of securing resources. Ivy can be obtained as you progress through the storyline and joins your team at the start of Chapter 11 and will be recruited after completing it. Saphir can be recruited in Chapter 19: The Dead Town by speaking to her with Alear or Diamant during battle or by talking to her while exploring post-battle.

Recruiting Lindon in Fire Emblem Engage is theoretically simple, but in practice, it can be rather tricky. Lindon is a potent spellcaster with more than enough power to be recruited by talking to either Ivy, Alear, or Hortensia.

The game is still about the characters, with each one having their own story. The stories between the main character and their followers are mostly romantic. The game features a marriage with the pact ring system. Once a player has units at A-rank, they can use a pact ring to make a unit S-rank. They can only do this once, and the cutscene shows it as an engagement. Fire Emblem Engage doesn’t limit pact rings by gender. All characters react the same to the proposal, regardless of the player’s gender. It depends on what the player wants. They won’t get the same mechanics from marriage, but they’ll still get character connections and chances for shipping.

The best parts of Fire Emblem: Three Houses weren’t in Fire Emblem Engage. The two games were made at about the same time. Generals and their units mostly met in cutscenes, but this was underdeveloped. Characters drifted in and out of scenes, making them superfluous to the storyline. The dialogue was bad and didn’t help the plot. The main characters, returning Fire Emblem characters, and especially the villains were boring and just there to move the plot along. This might have worked in a stronger story, but fans wanted the storytelling style of Three Houses. Some character relationships were created in Engage. Characters could find family members, but these were revealed suddenly. They didn’t have a good reason to engage the audience, and they seemed like cheap tricks to create drama. Characters died without developing, making plot points feel hollow. Three Houses made it easy to talk to every character because anyone could contribute to the story and the world. Bad dialogue made conversations a chore.

Lindon has good growths in speed and resilience, but mediocre growths in strength and magic. This makes Lindon a good choice against other spellcasters since they usually have low hit points and speed.
