To identify student engagement, teachers should observe their behavior, such as attending class, participating in learning activities, and maintaining a positive attitude towards learning.
Emotional engagement is determined by the student’s emotional connection to the academic environment and their learning experiences. To keep students involved and on their toes, teachers should move from teacher-centered learning to student-centered active learning, and vice versa. This can be achieved by introducing a presentation by having students pair up, talk about their prior knowledge of the presentation, and generate a list of four questions for which they’ll want.
Students who participate in active learning actually learn more than they think they do. Researchers have focused on at least three levels in relation to student engagement: student involvement within the school community, the focus on the classroom or subject domain, and the mental state students are in while they are learning.
