My wedding “celebration” was pretty much for free, as I only wanted to sign the papers, but some good friends decided such an important moment in my life deserved more than that. We married in New Orleans with only close family members. We’re from Los Angeles so we decided to take a family trip and get married. It was the best choice. We didn’t spend more then 2,000 on the whole trip, dress included, cake and food. We ended our night with a boat ride on the Mississippi River that included a bar on sight, Jazz music and a buffet. Not to mention the night tours on a horse and carriage. This was right before the pandemic in 2019. Best decision ever made.

This is wisdom! Why go through the expense of having a wedding and paying thousands of dollars when you can use that money on so many other things. So many spend tens of thousands of dollars on the wedding production only to end in divorce inside of 10 years. The one thing I would’ve have differently is to pick up the tab for everyone’s meal. And yes I’m married and we’ve been married almost 42 years. We eloped and 10 years later had a renewing of our vows and it was under $1,000 dollars.

No reception. Only 4 other people there. This was 34 years ago. My parents gave us some money for things we needed for our home. I don’t believe in spending all that money on a one time thing. That would have cost about 8 dollars each ($320 in total) and made pink lemonade/ regular lemonade and served them in nice glasses. My sister in law usually plans wedding for her friends and church memebers with a budget of $3,000 or less. These guys could have done a lot with 2k or 3k which I don’t think is too much to spend on a frugal wedding. They didn’t have a wedding for less than 500 dollars. Their pastor wasn’t paid, someone else bought the flowers and they made all of the guests pay for their own food. But this still better than a bridezilla that asks for cash donations to cover everything and then even more cash to pay for their honeymoon.
I respect the grind, but cmon, guests have to pay for their own food? I feel that if you’re going to go out and invite people to come to your wedding, for YOU, you should at least have the decency to provide food and drink. Might just be my culture and how I was raised, but food and drink should ALWAYS be something that people don’t have to worry about.
