This week’s makeup tutorial focuses on applying setting powder without looking cakey or flat. NYX Professional Makeup pro artist Alex Cervantes shares tips and tricks for using matte foundation and powder. Setting powder is an invisible step in your makeup routine that helps absorb oil and give foundation fuller coverage. To use setting powder, finish off your makeup and dip a powder brush into the product. Swirl the powder all over your face, focusing on oily areas like the nose, chin, and cheeks.
To avoid cakey makeup, use a light touch and blend the setting powder into your skin until it is invisible. Preparing your skin properly is crucial for a smooth application of makeup. Moisturize your skin and apply a face serum or oil before starting with your base makeup. Use a hydrating face spray to hydrate and nourish your skin.
To avoid cakey makeup, layer on the powder and only use what is absolutely needed. Pat the powder on your loose powder gently, tapping off excess. First, make sure your foundation is fully dry before applying powder. Then, use a fluffy brush to lightly dust the powder over your face.
In summary, setting powder is an essential step in your makeup routine that helps prevent cakey makeup, creasing, and buildup. By following these tips and YouTube video tutorials, you can create a flawless makeup look without looking cakey or cakey.
📹 HOW TO SET YOUR MAKEUP WITH POWDER WITHOUT LOOKING CAKEY | NINA UBHI
I’m going to show you how to set your makeup with powder without looking cakey! This is a highly requested video and I’m going …
What to avoid in setting powder?
Will setting powder make my fine lines and wrinkles worse? Setting powder and finishing powder make the skin look smoother, so they don’t make fine lines worse. Avoid ingredients that could damage your skin, such as synthetic fragrances and endocrine disruptors. Avoid chemical sunscreens in your setting powder. They absorb light, which damages the skin. Avoid phthalates, which are used for spreadability but are toxic. Jane Iredale formulas don’t contain any of these ingredients. Apply setting powder. It’s just as important to choose the right tools as it is to choose the right setting powder formula. Here are our current recommendations:
The Handi Brush is best for pressed formulas. The Chisel Powder Brush is best for loose formulas for a more even application. The Flocked Sponge is perfect for on-the-go touch-ups.
Should setting powder be lighter than your skin tone?
If you’re new to setting powder, choose the right shade. If your shade is too light, it will make you look ghostly. If it is too dark, it will make your foundation look streaked. Your setting powder should match your foundation. This can be simple by choosing foundation and setting powder that are designed to work together. Choose your foundation and setting powder from the same manufacturer if possible. Choose the same company for your foundation and powder to ensure a perfect match. We recommend LuxeCashmere HD Setting Powder for best results. It has a matte finish that sets your makeup without making you look shiny or oily. Available in 4 colors: 4 skin shades from light to dark and 1 translucent powder.
Is it better to use a brush or sponge for setting powder?
Wait for your foundation to dry before putting on powder. Chinchilla says you should press setting powder into your skin while your foundation is still wet. Use a flat brush or puff to press the powder onto your skin. Pressing it on keeps the foundation from moving or streaking. It makes the foundation last longer. I use the Make Up For Ever 156 Large Flat Blush Brush to apply the setting powder. Try the E.L.F. Essentials Powder Puffs if you prefer a powder puff.
How do you use setting powder without making a mess?
To avoid spilling, shake some powder into the lid and work from there. This lets you use just the right amount without getting it on your hands.
Does setting powder blur your face?
Setting powder is a must-have for oily skin, humid climates, and long-lasting makeup. It can also hide imperfections and give you an airbrushed look. Which powders stand out? Celebrity makeup artist Jamie Dorman recommends a finely milled powder that won’t settle into lines. (This means it’s loose, not pressed.) After testing 30+ powders, six stood out as the best. We’ve picked the most absorbent formulas with beautiful finishes to help you choose.
Why does my face look white after setting powder?
When we say flashback, we don’t mean a familiar scent taking you back to a happy memory. We’re talking about makeup flashbacks. Flashback in makeup is when your skin looks white under your eyes, jaw, and forehead. It’s often caused by using the wrong makeup. This white cast is not visible in person, but shows up in photos. Your under eyes look ashy and have powder residue. You can’t tell you have a white cast until it’s too late. Flashback with your makeup is usually because of the products you choose. Here are a few reasons for flashback:
• Using products with high SPF content – SPF can cause a white cast.
How to correctly use setting powder?
It disappears. That’s the best way to set your face.
How do you apply powder without creasing?
Use a setting powder to minimize creasing. Let it sit for two to three minutes, then gently dust off any remaining powder until the look is smooth. Use a small, fluffy powder shadow brush like the Fenty Beauty Tapered Blending Brush ($24) to apply and dust. Under-eye concealer is a must-have. Masking dark circles and a poor night’s sleep makes the skin brighter and more awake. Applying concealer under your eyes is simple, but makeup often creases due to the fine lines in this area. You can try to avoid creasing, but it’s not always possible, says Suzy Gerstein, a Manhattan-based celebrity makeup artist. Be gentle with yourself. A crease can be fixed with a damp Beautyblender or a fingertip. Suzy Gerstein is a New York City-based celebrity makeup artist. She has worked with many celebrities, including Christy Turlington Burns, Christine Taylor, and Gloria Steinem. Min Min Ma is a New York City-based celebrity makeup artist. Her clients include Tina Fey, Grimes, and Mia Goth.
Why does my setting powder look cakey?
Sometimes cakey makeup is caused by using too much product or the wrong products. Other times it’s because your skin is too dry or oily, or not prepared properly. Here are a few tips for refreshing cakey makeup and preventing it next time. Melt cakey makeup with setting spray. Why not use a makeup setting spray? When you’re done contouring, bronzing, setting, and highlighting, melt all that powder into your skin. Setting spray locks your makeup in place and sets it into your skin for a more natural finish. Blend your makeup. You can’t just rub on your foundation and call it a day. If your foundation looks cakey, you haven’t blended enough. Use your damp Beautyblender to stamp your foundation into your skin until it’s set (about three minutes). Blending and stippling will make your skin look even and avoid harsh lines.
How to set powder without looking cakey?
There are four things to remember: 1. Be strategic about where you put it and what you put over it. … Step 2: Use different brushes for setting powder. Step 3: Use mists. Step 4: Use setting powder for more than just setting foundation.
How to stop setting powder from caking?
2. Use a makeup blender. A makeup sponge can help you apply makeup more smoothly. Wet the sponge and press and bounce it on your skin to move things out of the way. It’s like a magic eraser.
3. Spray with face mist. Face mists are fun and useful. Spray your face to fix cakey makeup, especially powder makeup. The spray helps melt the makeup into the skin.
4. Use steam to loosen makeup. Steam can also help loosen caked-on makeup. Some experts say showering after your makeup process can help if your foundation is cakey.
Why does my makeup look dry after setting powder?
Why does my makeup look dry? A: Your makeup looks dry because your skin is dry. If you don’t exfoliate or moisturize, your skin will dry out. Makeup won’t stick to dry, flaky skin. Our advice: Exfoliate your skin 2–3 times a week. Also, use a moisturizer for your skin type after cleansing, but before makeup.
Check your cosmetics too. If your skin is dry, avoid matte formulas and powders and use liquid formulas that hydrate and nourish your skin.
📹 Why My Foundation is Always CAKEY? Beginner’s Guide to Natural Looking Foundation for ALL Skin Types
Hello peachiesHave you ever had these common makeup foundation problems? Your foundation look cakey, patchy, flaky and …
I’ve recently stopped setting my face with powder. I’m in Florida but it’s cool so my complexion products aren’t sliding off like they’ll do in the Summer. If I’m going to a event I definitely set my face. But I’ve found that using a finishing powder keeps my complexion looking soft. I’m definitely going to use some of your tips. 💜
You are a beautiful soul inside out Nina I so look forward to your articles and seeing what more can I learn. I never knew the importance of prepping the skin before applying make and always wondered why my skin felt so tight and dry but yet learnt so much from a great teacher. Thank you and always stay blessed 🥰
Hi I am 62 I love perusal your articles you are so beautiful! Well I have dry skin and after perusal this article I need to change the way I put on my foundation, I’ve been using Estee Lauder Double Wear for years and I have noticed some cakiness 🙁 I started using this new concealer called HIDE I saw advertised it does cover up my dark spots but it is pretty thick! I’m going to try your technique, do you think it would work for mature skin also? I would like to see a article of you applying makeup on a mature person:))
Stunning. Nina l am learning soo much since l found you gorgeous. I am currently using Ultra Teint by Chanel BD31. Concealer in Tarte light to medium sand. I would be grateful if you could advise what be my colour in Charlotte Tilbury. I do feel like you mentioned skin feels and looks cakey at times. I am truly grateful to you for all the great articles that are soo educational. Love Shash 🙏❤️
Hi Nina thank you for your amazing article’s they have really evolved my look. I have a question sometimes I use powder foundation when I am in a hurry or just out running errands. Can you use a damp Beauty blender with your powder foundation do you have a article on this or will this just end up being a cakey mess since its powder with a damp beautyblender thanks for all you do.❤👄💄xx
I wish I can see you making a article with Sysley Paris and Cle de Peau Beaute (very pricy brands). I have a similar skin tone and these products work incredibly well but I would love to see what you can do. Sysley is not too Latina toned friendly in some makeups, but with some of them work in my complexion and skin. The Tom Ford is also good for me. Tips please? 😍
Honestly I’ve been perusal ur articles for a while now and theyve helped me so muchhh. I have really bad eczema and severe allergies so my skin is sometimes flakey and sometimes smooth or even swollen but i’ve been using ur tips and theyve been helping my makeup turn out so nicelyyy. so thank you sooo much for always sharing ur tips Nina! lots of love from ziki ❤🥺
YESSSS!!! Thank you so much Nina, I followed this vid & took tips from your other articles and today was the first time I think ever that I didn’t have separation/cakey looking skin..and with the KVD serum foundation as well which I was struggling to get right, now I have and I absolutely love it! I cannot Thank you enough..I always enjoyed make up but get very frustrated with it when it doesn’t work how you know it should but today for the first time, I didn’t get that. Wonderful, Thank you! 🥰⭐️🥂
You really are the best teacher. My problem’S are, you might want another capuchin and sorry but I can’t give you any coffee advice because I don’t drink it. Okay, I’m 61 😮it’s okay because I don’t think I’m that old. I take great care of my skin, I watch your articles while doing my foundation and yes my husband thinks I’m crazy which is okay. I can’t say what I think he is because I’ll get kicked off of utube, I’m just kidding about him not Utube. Here’s the thing, I’m ugly so maybe I’m trying too hard, but the minute I pick up the foundation my skin starts to get all wrinkly and it’s worse when it knows I’m going to look for one of the 15 powders I have. It’s not that I’m not learning from you maybe I’m a bad and old student. What am I doing WRONG? Anyone, please help me. I’ve literally tried like everything from various brands and types of foundations to various types and brands of primers. I’ve read the ingredients to see if they are compatible. I’ve mixed coconut oil with a foundation or used grape seed oil as a primer. I know I’m sounding like it’s time to return to my quarters at the nut hut when all I want is to have my foundation stop looking like I’m 150 years old. I’m not expecting it to be like I’m 30, 40 okay 50 again, but I can’t figure out what the crap I’m doing wrong except praying that the mail arrives before my husband gets home from work. I feel bad for spending his money, okay our money. I’m not employed since my precious mom passed away in February.
I have mac brushes, inexpensive brushes and no matter what brush I use to buff powder around the eyes or anyplace on my face I feel poked by the bristles. I’ve been laying the brush on its side and pressing on the skin. I’ve getting sponges to see if that helps. Any suggestions for SUPER soft brushes?
I have very dry skin. I have to exfoliate twice a week and I use a beauty shaver on my face and my pimples get so dryer out and take a while to heal bc they scab up. I use serum, hemp oil, red light, spf, moisturizer. My makeup still looks cakey on those blemishes and if I have dry patches on my face it get cakey. Help please
What do you think about spraying setting powder after primer and before putting on foundation? I have big pores and my makeup always look cakey or foundation easily rub off my face, even if I use good products. Currently using hourly glass veil setting powder and setting spray but the above mentioned condition still maintain. Please help😢
Ohh that made me so angry 😡. 2 hear you say someone was telling you that was too much, trying to correct you when you’re the pro. Most of us are perusal you to get your knowledge.. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I’m resorting to what my mom used to say.. IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY, DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!! Nina is the sweetest woman on all of YouTube. So please don’t try to correct her or say anything negative. Thank her for her time .. she’s here to help us….
No wonder it takes my friends hours to do their routines. Just prepping the skin takes roughly half an hour with face washing, toner, setting moisturizer, and setting sun screen. All this before makeup even goes on. No wonder I was doing it wrong. My makeup looked caky within an hour. this article was so helpful.
GIRL… i tried the “moisturiser and then wipe off the excess with toner” it literally makes my makeup look SO GOOD as a dry combo skin type. I dont really wipe it off i just pat it enough for removing only the excess as im scared to get dry patches and it works like a wonder!! I highly recommend to try this out
i’ve been doing makeup for 3 years and this routine is exactly how i’ve evolved to apply my makeup now. this is the best routine to achieve a flawless skin like finish without leaving your makeup cakey! 💕 a few more tips: -i like to spot correct before foundation, then brighten my face after with a lighter concealer -i apply cream contour before concealing to keep the shape i want and look more sculpted -apply your undereye concealer ASAP to avoid flaking or creasing, i use the baking method and a small fluffy brush, then apply a translucent powder to the rest of your skin using a big fluffy brush when you’re finished -if you’re feeling too matte get a big fluffy brush to brush off excess powder with and remember setting spray will bring the look together and makes it look more natural -do not over manipulate your concealer or you will make it look flaky, peel, and remove coverage -i first use a brush for coverage and then i go in w a beauty blender to smooth and sheer it out -setting spray can help you blend out liquid and cream products
This was so thorough and detailed! I like that you covered all the skin types and explained each option accordingly. I love how clearly the articles on the side illustrate what you’re saying. It also makes it easier for me to pay attention, which is something I always struggle with because of my adhd. Thank you for putting so much effort into making these articles for us 💗 they’re super helpful
This is the best makeup article I’ve ever watched in my entire life! It’s no joke, I’m a professional makeup artist here in Brazil and the techniques we use are quite outdated, so I’m always looking for different techniques and here I could see the complexity of creating beautiful skin. Thank you very much! <3
Peachie I want to thank you so much for these articles. I am a total newbie with makeup and I never had a female figure in my life to guide me through it all as most the women in my family do not wear makeup. For once, I am so excited to try this all out and begin my makeup journey! Thank you, you really feel like an older sister I can look up to.
In my opinion this has helped 1. Choose a good brand foundation (not cheap brand) because cheap foundation can look bad 2. Use a moisturizer before applying or a moisturizing primer to moisturize the skin before application 3. Don’t use too much foundation because overlapping the product can make it very cakey, use just enough (don’t overlap foundation and concealer, apply them at the same stage and start blending) 4. Then spray some setting spray for adding extra moisture 4. Then use a translucent powder all over to hide pores and make your skin look smooth 5. When you are fully done with the makeup, spray more of the setting spray (but not too much that your face is wet) ❤
Tips I found to be great for oily skin, and I’m still improving my technique: 1. Use thermal water before starting to prepare your skin; 2. Use setting spray after every step of your makeup; 3. If you’re gonna use sunscreen, aply it generously and reduce the primer amount, so you wont be greasy, just use a watery or gel texture; 4. Don’t use heavy actives or many skincare products if you’re gonna do your makeup: a light toner, hyaluronic acid serum and moisturiser, in the tiniest amount will do the job; 5. Watch out your routine: drink enough water, quit the junkfood and go for some physical activity, your health and your skin will pay off greatly.
YOOOO the tips and tricks in this article WORKED!!!! OMG I’m near tears, my makeup has NEVER looked so good oh gosh!!! I have combo skin and the 3 tricks that helped me A LOT are 1. Patting off excess moisturizer (THIS HELPED SO MUCH OH GOSH) (I used tissue instead of cotton pad and patting motions instead of wiping. Highly effective!!!!) 2. Putting the foundation at the centre of the cheek ONLY and then blend it outwards (I used to put foundation EVERYWHERE and it caked/flaked like mad omggggg) 3. Patting off excess foundation with DAMP beauty blender (I knew you had to dampen it, but not to the extent of drying it off with tissue!). THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS article MY FACE LOOKS SO GOOD THANK YOU
Every time I watch a dear peachy makeup article I’m overwhelmed with so much helpful information in the best way possible, and I’ve been doing my makeup and consuming makeup content on youtube for nearly 10 years at this point. honestly feel like I need to make flash cards to try and remember all this stuff 😮❤
Wow, this is easily one of the most helpful skincare/make-up application articles out there (and I’ve watched my fair share to no avail)! It’s pretty comprehensive, providing advice for various skin types and skin/make-up concerns, yet it’s presented simply with easy-to-follow written instructions and article examples. Thank you!
hi~, this article is reaaaally helpful! i am a certified makeup artist and i can tell all of these tips are professional-level 💗. however~, there are some few things i would do in a different way to achieve even better results: 1. instead of rubbing your brush with powder on the palm of your hand to leave any excess, i would do it in the lid of my powder. it’s more hygienic and your brush won’t pick as much bacteria as it would if u do it that way. 2. i wouldn’t apply any foundation on my eyelids, really. foundation has water and oil, so if you apply it to your eyelids (even in a light layer) it will crease throughout the day. i would highly suggest to use and eyeshadow primer just as the urban decay one (the purple and original one), and if you also have pigmentation on your eyelids or they are very dark, use a pigmented primer, or a cream/primer eyeshadow, or concealer + setting powder (this option is the least for me because i have noticed it sometimes creases). i good product for this last option is the mac paint pot. you can use the soft ochre for more warm eye makeup look, or the painterly shade for cool eye makeup. hope this helps and help you get even better results!
I’m really far behind the rest of the class, in learning how to put on makeup and I am super intimidated with trying to figure out everything I need to know, buy, remember and properly do… I know it’s pathetic— but I really wish I had a makeup artist friend to hold my hand and help me learn the entire process of doing this stuff! 😩🤣❤
Not too sure why YouTube recommended your articles to me because I’ve been perusal Minecraft stuff lately lol but thank you. This is all useful info presented in a non-judgmental way. I did performance arts for a long time, and I always felt out of place when it came time to put on makeup for shows. The other girls were judgy of me to begin with since I’m clumsy and awkward, and my mother is sporty and wears minimal makeup, so I never really got any help. I learned to hate makeup as a result. I didn’t know what to do to get it to look right. This makes me want to try makeup again on my own terms.
I just want to add, based on makeup oily skin or you want matte finish – setting spray first then powder. but if you have dry skin and want to have glowy finish but want your makeup stay longer without feeling oily, setting powder first then second is the setting spray to finish the look. but now the trend is, after finishing all your face makeup you can apply setting powder, next is setting spray to lock in everything and after the wet dries down – you can put loose or setting powder again. what’s important is to use very fine powder to avoid using too much of the product or to make the underneath foundation cakey. I have combo skin and been using sponge/beauty blender for years, even I squeeze it throughly it makes my foundation patchy. I thought before that I will never used brush bcoz it will cause dry patched visible or will cause streaks but I still tried and now I prefer this than using damp sponges. I think right formula of moisturizer/sunscreen helps a lot on skin textures and the right density of foundation brush works perfectly without leaving streaks. My base is natural looking and well blended. All you need is to find out what tools works best for your skin type and learn more on techniques of using it. Dabbing, stipling motion, and alike.
So detailed! But I do have a question! Okay so in between pre-make up and sunscreen, should you still make sure your skin is tacky? The article made it kind of sound like it should be tacky so the foundation sticks, but if we’re putting another two layers of product (sunscreen and primer) on before the foundation goes on, should we let the moisturizer/toner dry down completely? Thank you all! 🙂
One tip from me- if your prep is quite oily(i am dry so i apply oily skincare) don’t wet your sponge it will congest your makeup and cause the foundation to separate. Unless you wipe away the oil from your skin with a tissue before patting with sponge, then it could work 🙂 also cream products have usually oils in them so use brush for cream products 🙂
Bro…. This is the first article ever where it made my face look at least a bit blurred and smooth. I have acne, no its not a lott or cystic acne Thank God, and I’ve tried different methods but they never really helped, and after an hour or so my face looked brighter than my future. I just got back from school ( ~7 hrs) and my face only has a ttiiiiny bit of shinyness. But I truly believe I could’ve gone wearing this makeup for a whole day 8+ hrs or even more. The reason I was shiny was because today was super humid and hot and im just a super sweaty human, BUT IM SO SURPRISED!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS article! I know it took like an hour but it really did hold up and still looks really good, really, thank you!!!
Thank you so much then what is the Matt finish best foundations brand ? And didn’t understand the concealer part for dark circles under the eyes, so we apply it before or after ? Also can you make a article about the brushing types and the use of them ? Specially for Eyeshadow ? Also how to apply the contour?
Hey, I have a question and I hope you can help me out. I learned that there are two types of sunscreen: physical and chemical. I have the chemical sunscreen, and I read that it’s recommended to apply moisturizer after sunscreen. But I’m wondering if I can still achieve a natural-looking foundation if I apply the sunscreen before the moisturizer? products I use: Luxe Organix Sunscreen & CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
omg I honestly didn’t think this would work. I watch this article as a joke to see what the hype was abt and yk I did in fact take away some things from it. Now usually my makeup would look so bad by the end of the day as my makeup would separate and look cakey. I tried the method today and DUDE IT LOOKED JUST AS GOOD AS WHEN I FIRST APPLIED IT.
Hi, I am new to your website. I like how you explain as you go on the article. I had ran into some cakey ness while doing my makeup. I have to color correct. I have a hyperpigmentation that I have to cover on my left cheek. This makes it very challenging and tedious and times. I like that you used a powder puff or a smaller brush to apply the powder. I will try that. I use the Nars radiant creamy color corrector and their concealer. Can I just apply powder after color correction and concealer? I was told to do foundation after. I was concerned about it being cakey with all the layers. So will this technic work for my hyperpigmentation area as well? Thank you for this very helpful and detailed article! I’m looking forward to more tips on your website!
Hi…i’ve been doing makeup for years and i have tried many different methods for my under eyes. I have dark under eyes but veeery thin skin…i can afford to apply just one layer of product. I can either apply corrector or concealer ..when i apply both of them i end up creasing no matter what setting powder or setting method i use. I seriously dont know what to .
I got into cosplay since last year but i cosplayed only masked characters as im insecured about my looks but last month i started to cosplay characters without mask and realized i have to study make up. My problem rn is that my make up becames cakey or whatever it is called and it’s making me more insecure. I’ve watched this vid so many times and thank you as rn i cn do my make up fine and i look good in my cosplay.
I have such dark genetic dark circles and I can never cover them up. I even started using a peachy color corrector before my concealer to try and mask it, but nothing seems to work. I tried to the tips in this article, yet still no positive outcome. I’m starting to loose hope 😭. I have no clue how to conceal these dark circles and not have my concealer look to powdery or patchy. Please help😭
okay now i need this but with compact powder foundation 🙁 my face is oily and sweat easily (and i live in hot humid climates) so i always struggle to do my base my current routine after skincare is pore primer (i have huge pores on my nose and center of my cheeks), liquid color corrector and concealer, then my powder foundation and set with setting spray and setting powder -> the thing is they end up looking caked after hours :((
okay so my friend did my makeup for a function and it was flawless. it looked like i had a filter on but after a few hours my concealer from the nose started peeling (I had not used foundation..it was a no foundation makeup)..it was not that obvious but i still felt insecure so i went home really quickly from the function. I only used snail mucin essence and niacinamide with HA serum and a sunscreen….are they both (essence and serum) too much for my combination skin? should i only use one product? i have oily nose.
cool article! idk why but when i put two lines of sunscreen on my face it seems so oily. hate this feeling. that’s why i use only one line of it. i only wash my face with cerave cleanser before sunscreen and nothing else. i don’t even use a toner before sunscreen cuz i think it will make it worse. why’s this happening?
well mines i know because of eczema i do my skincare like normal and still for some reason foundation hates me both powder and liquid i tried it all. so i just do no foundation. i have little to no blemishes anyways just nose texture and chin texture due to dry flaky skin for some reason the hot climate irritates my skin badly and makes room for more eczema on different parts of my body other than my face. don’t know if its severe or not but its been happening lately. and i hate not being able to wear makeup and or know whats good for my dry skin. so i just been doing the skincare thing and only filling in my eyebrows with nyx pencil but i wanna do more
I need help my skin is oily OK I used to use yves rocher foundation and now I bought a top face compact powder and when I used the compact powder it self it looked sooo flawless and amazing like a filter but when I applied both foundation and the top face powder it looked cakey as if I was wearing tons of layers my skin type is combination like dry but oily in t zones (new pores are forming and idk what to do I can’t afford a treatment) the foundation only also looked good but why when I used both they were just so ugly like all the buttons black white heads even pores were soooo noticeable help please ps it looked like this 0:14 another ps the day was hot as we’re still in hot days I love winteeer where it’s cold and I am not sweating BTW my forehead sweat a lot any help I am so lost
I always have this cakey or peelings whenever I do powder after concelar ( I don’t use foundation) and I do the right steps and tapping and everything but still I have these small lines or this small baking although I just did makeup it appears right after I set my concelar with loose powder, I tap the excess but still idk what to do pls help
I used to apply serum before moisturizer and sunscreen, and it always make my face looks cakey after 2-3 hours. One time I try to skip the serum (sometimes moisturizer too) and it makes my make up last longer. Idk if its just the sunscreen type, I used to buy any type of sunscreen But recently change it to waterbase sunscreen.
I’ve been facing a problem with my moisturizing cream and idk if it’s normal.. After 1-2hrs or even less of applying the moisturizer if I touch/scratch my face with my hands or if I apply my foundation it tends to pill like shown at 4:24 My skin is more of a combination type and the moisturizer that I use has more of a gel than a cream texture. Any recommendations of what I should do and is anyone having or had the same issue?
I did everything that was told in this article; waiting for my skincare to fully absorb, applying less products, setting spray after concealer, rubbing the powder in the puff and patting on the back of my hand, for cushion foundation – I pat the excess products on my cushion container, no swiping nor pulling. And it still looked like the left picture of this thumbnail, especially the crease of my smile lines ☹️. I have oily skin, and I have all the products needed. Can someone help me plssss?? ❓❔
so in summary, the steps to applying makeup is: 1. Wash your fash with a suitable fash wash 2. Dry your face and apply toner 3. Let the toner set for a minute before applying a thin layer of moisturizer 4. Wait about 5 minutes, then apply a layer of sunscreen all over your face 5. Apply primer on for a smooth base 6. Color corrector (if needed) on the areas that are too dark and patchy 7. Apply concealer under your eyes and on dark spots 8. Apply your foundation 9. Set your makeup using a setting powder or translucent powder
I follow all of these steps already, but foundation always looks Casey under my eyes because I have a fold in my skin. It’s not a fine line, it is just how my eyes are shapes and so the foundation doesn’t lay smoothly. It always creases and gets patchy on my cheeks and nose too :/ maybe i should keep not wearing foundation. I look worse when I wear it.
Always exfoliate your skin, and use something to get rid of the hair on your skin and chin. Moisturize..always moisturize your skin. You can use a poreless primer if you wish. Voila, great makeup application. Use a damp sponge to apply, or a makeup brush. Experiment what looks best in your opinion. Don’t forget to apply makeup to your neck so it is seamless and looks more natural. A B &B makeup is great and go light with your makeup application..you can always apply more if needed or just to areas that need a.bit more, .Cakey makeup just looks gross!
@4:11 WRONG. PRIMER SHOULD BE THE FIRST STEP BEFORE MAKE UP, NOT SUNSCREEN. Sunscreen should be the last step of your skincare, but this is talking about make up, so you should still use a make up primer. I use one even after I put sunscreen on. There were so many inconsistencies in this article so much bogus, WRONG information. A lot of it was just common sense. I still have done ALL of these steps and it didn’t help. Also, they forgot to mention using a facial oil which always helped my dry skin.
@1:00 THAT ISN’T EVEN THE SAME PERSON!! Look at the nose and the mouth. The nose is bigger and a completely different shape on the left side verses the right and the lips are also not the same! So on the right side, her top/upper lip SHRUNK after make up application?! That’s two different people.
