A blazer is perfectly appropriate for most weddings and receptions, but it’s important to choose the right attire based on the dress code. For black-tie weddings, wear a tuxedo, while for formal weddings, wear a tuxedo or suit. For cocktail events, suits or suit separates are most acceptable. Navy blazers and sport coats are often popular for cocktail events.
For casual weddings, wear a navy blazer, blue button-down shirt, or khaki pants. For beach weddings, look beyond white linen trousers and wear suncream. For formal and traditional weddings, wear a 2×2 blazer or sports coat.
A grey blazer is not ideal for a proper funeral dress code, as the hues are considered somber. When choosing a blazer color, consider the color of your chinos and the wedding color scheme. For less formal weddings, mix and match with slacks or a suit jacket and pants. For cocktail/semi-formal attire, go for a suit or blazer with dress pants, keeping colors and patterns classy and avoiding anything too casual.
For evening weddings, wear a good blazer and a nice pair of light trousers. Blazers should nip in at the waist and give you a sleek silhouette. A pocket square and boutonniere can be a good alternative.
In summary, a blazer is perfectly appropriate for most weddings and receptions, but it’s important to choose the right attire based on the dress code, venue, and season.

So Alex There are a few things wrong with this suit : First off, the shoulders are not the right size, the sleeves should be a centimeter or two lower, the bottom of the jacket should also be fairly lower. I work with menswear, tailoring specifically and overall this looks more like a Zara fit than a classic and timeless suit. Do consider going a size up on the jacket
You saved me from wearing a smart watch with a suit😂😂 Good tip on the tightness if you sit down with it button the suit may rip because you’re applying too much force to it and it will be uncomfortable while if you sit with it unbuttoned it will be comfortable and save the it from ripping because while you sit the suit wraps around you if you unbutton it it won’t do that.
I bought several suits from Indochino. They are nowhere near well tailored suits. They provide a good base (especially if you`re looking for feature you won`t find on a rack) but their tailoring is sub par. I always have to take mine to my tailor (after Indochino`s tailor tried to fix their mess ups) to get the look I am going for.
I am a classic dresser and I beg to differ on many points in this article. Point 1: A smart watch is perfectly fine. The important thing is the shirt needs to be made with a custom cuff to fit the watch underneath so it is only visible when it is used. Point 2: Leave stitching in pockets that you don’t use is fine. Point 3: Watch at 1:45 is way too big to be worn with the style of suit in the article. Point 4: Suit is TOO tailored. The Tom Ford look is popular now but it is very unforgiving. An extra sweater or a vest will throw the line of the suit off. Also, paints are too short. The paint legs should touch the top of the shoes so socks are not visible. Point 5: A thicker wallet is OK as long as the jacket has enough room to accommodate it. What is unsightly is the wallet creating a bulge such that the lapels do not lie flat against the chest. Point 6: Three button is fine – you only need to button the middle button. But a Tom Ford style jacket just isn’t long enough to accommodate three buttons. Point 7: Trump’s tie is not too big as long as his lapel width matches. Point 8: I’ve actually seen label left on jacket sleeve. I don’t care if it says silk or mohair it is not tasteful. Point 9: The Tom Ford highly fitted look might just be a passing fad. Especially that it has a tendency to expose shirt fabric above the belt buckle. Point 10: Pocket square tends to be pretentious unless for an evening formal affair.
You’re making one the biggest mistakes in wearing a suit, with the bottom of your shirt and belt being visible under your suit jacket which draws attention to your crotch which is disadvantageous when wearing a suit. Your trousers should sit higher at your natural waist line so the shirt is not visible underneath where the jacket splits at your belt. This will create a nice seamless look.
Alex you have some good fashion style points in regards to the removal of the tags and wearing too many accessories and how to properly button a suit. I think wearing an apple watch is cool unless your are going on an job interview. I believe a mans suit should fit him comfortably with freedom of movement. I see many of you younger guys who like to wear your suits a little too tight fitting like you are trying possibly to show of your physique and guns (if you have guns). If and unfortunate situation were to arise where you have to defend yourself or your partner. That tight fitting suit is going to be somewhat of a hindrance. Before I even viewed your article I speculated that your fashion tips would not be all that serious . Why did I suspect that? It’s was mainly do to your copy cat Robin Thicke hair style together with the beard. I bet good $ that when you are out in public that you see many male clones wearing that same exact hair style.
I’m 24, and I’ve always loved wearing suits since I was in Highschool. The problem is that there are no good stores in which I can buy a good suit nor tailor shops in which they are specially prepared to make a good suit. I always struggle finding good separated pieces o create my own suit and it is terribly difficult. I wish I could get one of those amazing suits. Men are loosing that elegant and impressive style we used to have. Weraing these pieces of art is something that really makes me feel happy.
I agree with everything you said however, I disagree with your first tip about Apple watches. Apple watches can be styled with the right straps which can blend into a formal outfit such as a suit. What I see is that, some guys wear size 44mm watches on their small hands. I recommend getting the right size watch that’s proportionate to your hand size. But nonetheless, cheers for the brilliant tips mate.
@ 6:45 I gotta tell u your wearing a trendy suit now, with no break, the very narrow to super slim pants, and thin lapels. Overall it’s a super slim suit. I don’t think it’s all bad, I don’t feel every suit has to look like that. The suits that last the test of time are classic/modern style. Suits today have the look of the 60’s, everything is slim and tight!
It’s good you enjoy wearing a suit but mate no turtleneck or t-shirts Miami vice is over just wear good quality shirt without a tie looks casual but can still look graceful and the suit jacket is short both in the sleeve and body a jacket should sit at the point your fingers meet your palm.. This is all things you learn over many years and from your Taylor I think I have suits older than you but keep going fella you’ve got the right attitude
It’s all a matter of taste and style, when I had two suits cut by a French and an Italian tailor in France, they recommended to stay in the classic. The shoulder seams should match the shoulders angles or edge, the jacket should go all the way to the bottom of the buttocks, the back of the paints bottoms should be a little longer than the front so they seat nicely over the shoes, the jacket should be buttoned when standing or walking and opened when sitting. Finally the suit should be not too small to have maximum comfort and not look like you’re wearing your little broter’s suit. And always remember that trendy “à la mode” styles like those long pointy shoes, go out of style, a classic style never goes out!
I don’t like his style of dressing. He mentioned that he goes for a “timeless classic” look but his pants and jacket is too tight and modern for my taste. In other words, I think he is more interested in showing his muscles more than his style. Very trendy for my taste. I prefer the Cary Grant style.
People are being rather rude, however I do agree with the overall critique about your jacket not the whole suit as that includes the trousers. Some ppl like a tighter fit and if they have the body for it go for it, however that jacket is too small regardless of what garment you have underneath, telltale signs are the fit in the shoulders and the dreaded triangle when you button your jacket. Your jacket should cover your seat when when you butt on that top button you shouldn’t be able to see your shirt under. U can still achieve that trim slim waist look trust me I hear u. Otherwise the vid was pretty solid and well made. I hope you can continue to make more and make proper adjustments to your own menswear wardrobe so ppl won’t eat u alive like they doing now.
To all my beautiful petite ladies, if you’re short its not a disaster, please don’t self sabotage yourself, its even cute and girly to be short, there are lots of tall and handsome guys who prefer short girls with petite sizing. Regardless of your height always remember we are all beautiful and worthy of love and respect no matter how short or tall we are. Our inherent worth doesn’t change with our external standards of beauty our size. Never let anyone disrespect or disdain your self worth.
Love your articles. I learned so much from perusal them. Big fan of all the examples you use; both of what works and what doesn’t. Also love the explanations you give for why something is good or bad. I have your voice in my head when I shop now: “watch out for horizontal lines” 😃 English is not my first language so I love it when you do not have background music on your articles. It makes it easier for me to understand.
You are the best with “petite” dressing! That proportion article was definitely a game changer for me. I have exchange my long tops for crop tops and wow, never look that good on me. This blazer is also really great. I always want to wear blazers but couldn’t figure it out why it didn’t suit me. Thought because I look too young for my age, but it was the… proportion again. Keep up the good work with your articles! ^^
This came at the right time for me I’m basically 5 ft and have been wanting to add at least one blazer to my wardrobe. For colour scheme navy is the best colour for me. But all your tips about which blazer to go for and how to wear the different types of blazer are incredibly useful. Really be enjoy my perusal your articles on general.
I always tailor long sleeves and I’ve had most of my jackets for 20 years. It’s so worth it. For blouses, and I’m doing one right now, I put a wide elastic at the bottom of the sleeve so it’s easy to pull up and keep up. Soft printed fabric works best. I can’t sew so I always look for the easiest way. BTW your website is fantastic.
Thank you, dear. I love, love, love blazers and have many. But styling them for non-suit/non-office settings has been challenging on my 5’2 body with a large bust. 🙄 Also, I live in northern US and am always cold. Wearing a blazer helps me stay comfortable all day and adjust to the temp. In winter I wear it all day, but in summer, I take on/off depending on how hot it is outside and how cold the AC is indoors. You’ve given me some great ideas. Can’t wait to break out the blazers again for casual days. Thank you. Cheers! 😇
You are so cute (I say that in the best way possible, I love your personality). I will probably binge all your articles now. I just started a very respectable position as an engineer that has allowed me to wear skirts and more feminine outfits. My last job I had to dress as if I would work around welding in the shop, so I had to wear long pants that goes over my steel toed boots. But now I am more free in my work attire so this has sparked a heavy interest in how I look in the workplace. I am also 5’2.
I have a question. I’m shopping for blazers and I understand your suggestions about the best lengths. I was wondering if you have any thoughts about the bottom cut of the blazer. So, I see ones where the bottom is very blunt and others where the two bottom sides of the front of the jacket are curved if that makes since. Gives a softer line at the bottom. I was just wondering if the shape of the bottom might have a baring on the appearance of height of sliminess and what you might suggest? Thank you.
Hello Chi, I’m gradually adjusting my wardrobe to all your tips. Today I bought some tights to match all my new ankle boots. In a couple of months, I want to buy pants. Have you ever purchased a skirt or dress and got the seamstress to insert a slit? How did that work out? I’ll remember not to purchase long blazers and double breasted. 💋
Dear Chi, congrats, great article and as usual, just on time for me. Since last year, I lost 50 pounds😄, so nothing in my wardrobe fit me anymore. That’s one of the sad consequences of lossing weight😞 Unluckily, I’ve tried countless numbers of blazers. However, yesterday I found a pettite black blazer that fit me “good;” but, (there is always a but) it has no lining. The lacking of lining is its only con; but it look great on me. That’s my only doubt about this blazer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Yes, a not too longer blazer would looks much better in petitte ladies. Many thanks⚘
Great tips as usual! I am also petite at 5’2″ but I have a shorter torso relative to my legs which are pretty long for my height. My inseam is 27. Although we have different proportions i find your advice wonderful in general! I am also a bit busty for a size 2-4 so I get blazers from the regular section sometimes because I dont like tops too short and get the sleeves taken up. Where are those cute white booties from please? I’m also looking for a nude bootie like that. Thanks Chi! Keep the vids coming. I love all of them!
I am 5″0 and have found 3/4 sleeves to end just short of my wrists, so not quite long enough for cooler weather nor looks quite stylish enough to wear any other time 🤔 Oh, and those drop shoulder shirts/dresses sleeves end where the 3/4 ones do but depending on the style/color of those is what can make it or break the look 😏
I have a tough time finding blazers that will fit my narrow, petite frame. Everything is too long, and huge in the shoulders. Plus, I want high quality, good brands like The Curated don’t make petites. I won’t buy any of those huge, oversized, super-long blazers that are on offer now, but wait until classic fit ones return.
I don’t understand why anything is sized specific to someone 5’4″ when those people only need an inch heel to be average! Why aren’t all petites sized at the average between our tiny crew like at 5’2″?? There is a company right now making “extra short inseams” that are 27″ and I’m not sure how that is considered extra short and not just their short inseam option.
I have one blazer tip for petites: if you know the sleeves are usually too long, look for blazers without the cuff vent and buttonholes. It’s much cheaper to have the sleeves shortened if they are just simple tubes, with decorative-only buttons (no buttonholes). Women with some sewing experience can easily do this themselves, even without a sewing machine (it’s not that much stitching, mostly measuring, cutting and pressing). Decorative-only buttons can be easily moved, just keep the same spacing and distance from the cuff end.
i would say that the worst-looking fashion faux-pas on us petites are too long sleeves ( on any type of garment, dress, shirts, etc). . To be avoided at any cost because not only does it spoil all the chic of an otherwise lovely and elegant blazer, but it also carries along a kind of “waif”, poor, raggy atmosphere. Like a hand-over from your elder sis. You were so right to mention it, congratulations.
I enjoy your articles but can’t ignore the fact that the camera angle has been kept low while showing correct dress-up side. And while showing wrong ways of dress-up, the camera angle is kept high making the head look bigger and body look shorter enhancing the short frame. I feel it’s unnecessary as your articles are informative enough and don’t need such exaggeration.
